Fantastic Location & Breakfast, But Noise May Be an Issue for Light Sleepers

    rating12 May 2026

It’s a difficult one to review because I chose this hotel largely for its location and excellent reviews — and overall, it really is a lovely small hotel.Location – You couldn’t ask for a more central spot. The hotel is right on Gran Vía, directly opposite the flagship Primark store, so the moment you step outside, you’re in the heart of Madrid. Public transport is extremely convenient, with metro stations and buses nearby, although we mainly explored on foot. In the opposite direction, you’ll find a more quirky neighbourhood filled with independent shops, cafés, and charming little squares. It’s also a popular LGBT area with a wonderfully eclectic mix of people and venues, and as an LGBT couple, we felt completely safe and welcomed throughout our stay.Breakfast – Absolutely excellent. There was plenty of fresh food available, and the staff were attentive and friendly. Breakfast is served until 11am, which is a real bonus if you enjoy a slower start to the day. There’s also complimentary tea and coffee available in reception 24/7.Room – We stayed in a standard double room. It was on the smaller side, but the bathroom was spacious with a huge walk-in shower. Everything was clean and comfortable, and realistically, as you’re mainly there to sleep, the size was perfectly manageable. I also noticed that some rooms come with terraces, which would be a nice extra.Downsides – I say this with a heavy heart because it really is a good hotel, but there were a couple of issues. We stayed on the second floor overlooking Primark and a side street, and the noise was significant. If you’re a light sleeper, as I am, you may struggle — particularly at weekends. There were people outside until 4–5am, along with car horns, vans, and police vehicles throughout the night. Sunday night was noticeably quieter, so my advice would be to consider a midweek stay if possible. One other thing I noticed was that some areas of the hotel are beginning to need a bit of TLC. There were paint scuffs on woodwork, and the downstairs public toilets were disappointing — tatty, with a broken sink and a missing door lock. They simply looked neglected compared to the rest of the hotel and the rooms. It’s a shame because the hotel itself is very good overall, and these are the sort of small maintenance issues that just need someone to stay on top of them. Maria Garcia, Owner at Petit Palace Triball, responded to this review Dear darren, Thank you very much for sharing such a detailed and balanced review of your stay. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our location, the neighborhood atmosphere, and, especially, the service provided by our team and the quality of the breakfast. It is very important to us that our guests feel comfortable, well taken care of, and welcome. We are sorry, however, that the noise affected your rest. Since we are located in such a central and lively part of the city, we understand that some people, especially those who are more sensitive to noise, may perceive it more intensely, particularly on weekends. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as it helps us better inform future guests and continue seeking solutions to improve the experience. We also sincerely appreciate your comments regarding the condition of certain areas of the hotel. We take these observations very seriously and are already working to improve maintenance and address those details that, as you rightly point out, make all the difference. It has been a pleasure to have you with us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future to offer you an even better experience.Sincerley, Maria Garcia Host Petit Palace Triball

Very pleasant staff turned a 2 hotel into a 3

    rating17 Mar 2026

At first we weren't sure about this hotel: Cons - Small room, 1 chair, ac not on for the season yet so no air movement, the room window overlooked Primark, the door was across from the elevator. We had to ask for a kettle and cups (no coffee, tea/sugar/creamer offered). No english TV channels. The plastic sweep on bathroom glass door torn, black satin draperies, harsh lighting/no lamps. (Over $250per night on Expedia.) Breakfast would have been €15 per person per day but we didn't partake. But it proved to be fine. Pros - Carrefour is across the back street (we got picnic supplies and drinks), it was quiet with the window shut, the line 1 to Atocha train station and the line 5 are 2 minutes away (airport - take lines 5 to 10 to 8). But the best is the staff! I expressed that being by the elevator might be noisy and the lady who checked us in said to try it and if it was a problem we could move. The next am we got a phone call to my cell phone checking on our experience! (Wasn't noisy!! 😃) They also suggest a few very close options for dinner. I still think it was pricey - they have demand pricing and the day we left would have been around $100/night on Expedia which would have been a good deal!! Good location however hotel did not provide full transparency and was clear on late checkout policy. Hotel charged extra

    rating04 Feb 2026

I had a decent stay at Petit Palace Triball until my departure day. When I asked for a late checkout, the staff told me it was 'fine' and granted the request without mentioning any specific time limit or that I would be charged. I was shocked to find an additional fee on my bill when I went to check out. Despite explaining that I was never informed of a cost or a cutoff time, the hotel refused to remove the charge. It felt like a bait-and-switch. I enjoyed the location, but the lack of transparency regarding fees ruined the experience. I would advise all future guests to get any 'complimentary' offers in writing to avoid being overcharged at the end. Thalía Chiguano Vargas, Encargado del hostal at Petit Palace Triball, responded to this review Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry that your final impression was not as expected, and we would like to clarify what happened. In the morning, you requested information about the check‑out time, and our colleague Julita kindly informed you that it is at 12:00. At that moment, you mentioned that you would be leaving around 13:00 or 14:00, and we explained that, subject to availability, this would incur an additional cost of €10 per hour and that you would need to confirm it with us.We did not receive any further communication, and you eventually checked out at 14:00, so the previously informed supplement was applied. When you expressed your disagreement at reception, and my colleagues explained the information again in detail and, given the situation, in which unfortunately there were raised voices and disrespectful behaviour towards the team and I had to intervene personally to clarify the matter once more. We would also like to add that throughout your stay, we are aware that you felt comfortable and well looked after, especially thanks to the dedication of our colleague Julita, who assisted you with all your requests and needs. We want to highlight and acknowledge her professionalism, as well as that of the entire team, who work every day with the greatest commitment to offer a warm, attentive, and high‑quality experience to all our guests. We are sorry that this misunderstanding affected your final impression, and we appreciate your comments, which help us to continue improving.Kind regards,Thalia - Experience Manager.
