    An excellent place to stay

    rating04 Feb 2024

This chain calls itself a “hostel”, but it is nicer than that. The building itself is old and, I think, The citadel only occupies one floor, so the rest is residential. Yes, the main entrance and hallway are grubby, but the rooms certainly aren’t. I stayed on two occasions and had two different rooms. One was a normal-sized room with a very comfortable double bed, kettle (with tea, coffee, cacao, biscuits), a small fridge, an TV, and a bathroom. The other room was bigger and had all the same things, plus a sofa. And the biggest TV I have ever seen. I actually preferred the smaller room as the bathroom was closer to the bed and the bathroom was a better design. The rooms look like UK Premier Inn rooms without carpet. The location within a residential building means you cannot guarantee quiet – a family lived above one of my rooms and a child was running around for hours. There were also builders in the building opposite. Annoying, yes, but fine considering the price I paid. The citadel is incredibly well situated – you can walk to most places, and it is incredibly close to both “Opera” and “Sol” metro stations, which are on two different lines. I am a woman, was travelling on my own, and felt perfectly safe in the area and the hotel. The only negative is that reception is only open from 2 pm, so leaving luggage there before that time is awkward. Would I go back? Yes, on my own. My husband is a light sleeper, so I would look elsewhere. I would no doubt have to pay more and still wouldn’t be guaranteed peace and quiet.

Practical, cozy and right in the center of the old town.

I was on a short layover @ Barajas and I was needed a place to crash over the evening, close enough to the old city center so that I could go for a quick evening walk and dinner. The hotel is dead center. Elaine, counter staff, was super helpful and guieded me on what to do that evening, planned my morning taxi and delivered an ironing board, before end of her shift. She rocks.

    Perfect.

Really lovely place to stay. Just had a week here exploring Madrid and the local area- this was a great base. Its on the second floor of an old building, but the rooms are very modern and comfy, and spotlessly clean (cleaned daily). We even had a little balcony which was lovely to sit on with a cuppa. Kettle and tea/coffee making equipment in the room- apparently quite unusual for Spain. In a very central location- 5 mins walk to the Royal Palace and Opera, and the closest metro is also 5 mins walk. Its a busy area, with lots of bars and tavernas, but the sound proofing is excellent!! Staff were very helpful and friendly- we had one minor issue with the shower, and it was sorted when we got back later that day. Recommended!!

    This is 1-star, not 3-star

    rating13 Sept 2022

Just to manage expectations, Expedia and other sites classified this hotel as 3-star but Google classified it correctly as 1-star. It is indeed 1-star based on the quality of bed, services and overall level of comfort.

Excellent place to stay - loved it!

    rating14 Jun 2022

The location cannot be any better!OK this is not a super plush 5* hotel but it is as described and I doubt we could have found a better place. St Miguel Market is only metres away and very close to hundreds of other local attractions.Staff were very very helpful, rooms clean, wifi good, amenities basic but as described. We will be returning for certain, highly recommended. Thank you!
