  We stayed in Son Mercadal for 4 nights. We arrived 10 min. early which was not appreciated. We were told to sit down at the desk of the owner and she stood over us, pressing upon us that this was the house of her parents, now hers and her daughter's. Her stirdy attitude threw me right back to boarding school. We were starved and when we asked if she could sell us a sandwich, that was not possible. She told us to drive back to Campos (about 20 min drive) to go shopping. When I needed an iron for an evening dress, she said that no iron is available and that we could go to Campos and try to find a dry-cleaner who maybe could iron the dress. After some insistance, she did provide me with an iron, part of the mother's inheritance. The lady told us she had given us a bigger room that initially allocated to us, with a private terrace. the terrace was far from private : 2 other rooms had the same terrace and the entrance door to the room (all windows) gave a direct view into our room and bed for all guests on the groundfloor and for the guests sitting at the swimming pool. The room was dark and we had to sit in it curtains drawns for some privacy. The room locked with a simple key so with the "terrace door" giving directly to the terrace, there was a bit of feeling of lack of safety. The wooden down part of the terrace door had slits in the wood for air and insects to walk in.... The breakfast was far from what can be seen on the pictures. The bread was industrial "long preservation and the breakfast was "rationed" for each person : 2 slices of bread, 2 slices of salami, 1,5 cherry tomatoes, 2 slices of (industrial spanish) cheese, 1/2 boiled egg, .... The marmalade was presumably made by the mama of the owner which raised some questions as to the expiry date. Such a pity for an island with such great food and generosity.... Clearly not here. The bathroom was old, the shower was shower head only, there was a plastic bottle with a pump with undefined (I presume) soap with the color of green slime, there was 1 "5 ml-sample" of shampoo per person, the room was too damp for the towels to ever dry, there were 2 towels per person and no pool towels, there was not even a "welcome" bottle of plain water....The furnitures were an assembly of inherited stuff, too good to throw but too outdated to put in your own house. The garden and the surroundings were beautiful. But that is not a merit of the hotel owner : all the island is stunningly beautiful and the gardener did a good job, even though he was cutting the hedge with a petrol cutter on a Saturday morning keeping us from using the swimming pool for reasons of privacy and noise-pollutio. All in all : this place lacks even the most basic of hospitality, friendliness, generosity which is so important in the hospitality business. Maybe the daughter would be a better host than the lady we met, but that does not change the "general" set-up of this hotel. Not recommended

  An overnight escape to the countryside

  A very peaceful, tranquil and relaxing location. Beautiful outside spaces and very tastefully decorated. Full of the propertys history inside.Pool was very clean and pleasant.However, there are insufficient comfortable sun loungers for all residents. We had to use older wooden slatted sunbeds that were varnished making them unadjustable to lay on. No cushions were provided for these making them extremely hard and uncomfortable on the back.We booked a double room which was very comfortable, overlooking the gardens. However, the bathroom was very tiny and unfortunately the shower was leaking and running into the bedroom.The breakfast was quite basic, but the homemade jams delicious.

  We fell in love to this rustic countryhouse from the first site we entered the reception and met the hostess Maria. She was so friendly and attentive. We chose family room as it was spacious and had own terrace with direct access to the pool. By nights it was amazingly silent, only the rooster was crowing in the morning (like in the real farmhouse has to be). So we slept very well. Every morning we enjoyed the tasty breakfast in the restaurant room - such a pearl to rustic interior lovers. Breakfast was served on the tray and you can order eggs in addition. So we took enough time to enjoy the meal. Son Mercadal offers dinners also, but not in the off-season. So we visited different restaurants nearby. The location of Son Mercadal in the heart of Mallorca was just excellent as you have short distancies to different places of the island. But the pool area and courtyard are also relaxing and cosily decorated so if you have a longer vacation you can enjoy the time there also. Thank you Maria and family!

  Peace and tranquility and heavenly

  This is our 2nd visit to Son Mercadal and will be back in 2 years. Just as our 1st visit perfection for a relaxing time even with a 9 year old boy. He loves it here as we do also. Maria is the most perfect host you could wish for including family and staff. The food is fantastic peaceful and romantic. Perfect to stay and relax by the pool or near enough to beach’s Cala Santanyí or Cala Mondrago

  Depends what you’re looking for

  We wanted somewhere peaceful and quiet in the countryside to relax and swim by the pool, not too far from beaches and restaurants and this was it. Our room was on the ground floor by the pool and it was ideal and rustic. The gardens and house are beautiful and the pool is lovely. All the staff are very friendly, it was always very clean and Maria is always checking that things are going well. It’s very much a family business with everyone involved, everyday we saw Pepe with his sweet, little security dog, Shandi, never far behind. We enjoyed the breakfast of homemade pastry, homemade jams(best fig jam I ever had)tasty cheese, juices, meats, fruits, muesli, yoghurt and much more. Did not try the dinner.There’s many seating areas outside with a swinging chair and gorgeous courtyard, everything beautifully decorated and very Mediterranean. Not far from many villages and beaches in the southeast. It would be ideal maybe to have a fridge in the room, and a fan instead of an AC is quieter. We would return.
