Not Suitable if You Don’t Speak French

    rating10 May 2026

We recently stayed at Hotel Palia Dolce Farniente and overall had a mixed experience. The rooms are nice, modern, and have clearly been updated recently. The food was also good with plenty of options available throughout our stay. The staff behind the bars and in the restaurant were very friendly and hardworking, although many of them didn’t speak much English.Unfortunately, the reception staff were definitely not the friendliest. We spoke to around four different reception staff members during our stay and, apart from the lady we spoke to when checking out, they were not particularly welcoming and didn’t speak good English. The lady at checkout was very friendly and helpful — we just wish we had got her name. One thing that should definitely be noted is the tourist tax. Before booking, I researched whether this hotel charged tourist tax because some hotels do and some don’t, and everything I found suggested this hotel did not charge it. However, on arrival we were asked to pay over €46 in total for two people, which was quite unexpected. The biggest issue with this hotel, however, is the complete lack of inclusion for anyone who is not French. Everything is heavily catered towards French guests only. All of the entertainment was entirely in French, most of the staff spoke French, and there was no entertainment provided in any other language. This hotel should really be labelled as a French-speaking hotel because no effort seems to be made to include guests of other nationalities or languages. What we found especially strange and quite excluding was that one day there was even a “French only meeting” specifically for French guests. We honestly thought this was quite out of order and made other guests feel left out.On a positive note, the manager was very nice, spoke good English, and seemed approachable, although unfortunately we didn’t get his name either.Overall, while the rooms and food were good, the hotel mainly caters for French guests and other nationalities do not feel particularly included. Ana Groizard, Marketing at Hotel Palia Dolce Farniente, responded to this review Good morning,Thank you for sharing your opinion and for positively highlighting aspects such as the renovated rooms, the quality of the food, and the friendliness of much of our team.We would like to clarify that the hotel mainly welcomes French guests. For this reason, some entertainment activities are carried out in French. However, there is absolutely no intention to exclude guests of other nationalities. Every season, the hotel welcomes guests from many different countries, and our team does its best to assist everyone with professionalism and courtesy.Regarding the tourist tax, this is an official mandatory tax established by the Balearic Government and applied in the majority of tourist accommodations in the Balearic Islands. We are sorry that your perception of the hotel did not meet your expectations, and we will continue working to offer the best possible experience to all our guests.Kind regards.

Ana Groizard, Marketing at Hotel Palia Dolce Farniente, responded to this review Dear Christine,Thank you very much for your lovely review and for recommending our hotel. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your holiday and appreciated the quality of the food, the cleanliness of the hotel, and the friendliness of our staff. We also appreciate your comments regarding the entertainment. Our hotel mainly welcomes guests from different French-speaking regions, which is why many of the activities are conducted in French in order to suit the majority of our guests. Nevertheless, we are constantly working to ensure that all our international guests feel comfortable and enjoy their experience to the fullest. It was a pleasure having you stay with us, and we hope to welcome you back again for another wonderful holiday in the future.Best regards

    My opinion

    rating07 Oct 2025

This is MY review. In the first instance it is NOT in Cala dor it’s in Cala Egos. Upon arrival at the hotel we were NOT greeted with a “ hello and welcome to this hotel “ we were greeted with “ your name “ . Not a good start. It soon come apparent that this hotel is For French Guests and NOT British. Arrived at lunch time so the room wasn’t ready which is normal. Advised to come back at 1400. Went for lunch at 1300 when the Restaurant opens. Basic food nothing special. Cold and not very appealing if I’m honest. Went back at 1400 and found our room for the 10 nights. Not what I paid for .Got a view of the French Boules area and Tennis courts. Contacted Jet2 who contacted the Hotel and they said the hotel was full and couldn’t be moved. Not happy but it is what it is. The first night our bathroom flooded due to the shower tray not being adequate so went to reception and had to use my French translator on my mobile. All sorted within 1 hour so all good . Right, Entertainment, The entertainment team or Club Jumbo as they are called work really hard BUT and it’s a BIG BUT do EVERYTHING AND I MEAN EVERYTHING in French. They will NOT engage in conversation with you unless you are wearing a pink AI band. We tried on many occasions to say hello but was completely ignored. We actually sat on the next table from them at the bar Nextdoor and tried to talk to them but again ignored. Didn’t bother speaking to them again. We were never asked to join in with any activities as again we were not French so us British didn’t count .Some of the French Guests were extremely rude and disrespectful and think they don’t have to line up for a drink or for food so they just push in. 98% of the French were rude and disrespectful as I said but the other 2% were polite and took some time to speak to us. We went out every night as the evening entertainment was all about the French and not us British even the darn Bingo 😂 was French . Anyway, The Rooms are cleaned to a high standard, fresh towels everyday , bedding changed every 2 days. Pool area washed and hosed down every morning including the sunbeds. The cleaning staff work very hard and so does the maintenance men. I could go on and on but I won’t. In my opinion this Hotel should NOT be sold to the British people as it’s not geared up for us. Jet2 have let themselves down. I actually spoke to a Jet2 customer service person 6 months ago about my concerns about it being a French hotel and the man I spoke to said it’s NOT French it’s British. I rest my case.Would I return to this Hotel most definitely NOT and I repeat NOT unless it’s geared up for us British NOT just the French. Shame as it’s in a good location . Ana Groizard, Marketing at Hotel Palia Dolce Farniente, responded to this review Good morning,Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in such detail. We are sorry that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. We would like to clarify that our hotel is located in **Cala Egos, within the Cala d’Or area**, a well-known and popular part of the destination. We also welcome guests from many different nationalities and work to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and enjoys their stay with us.Regarding the entertainment team, we appreciate that you recognised their effort and dedication. It is true that during certain periods a large proportion of our guests are French-speaking, which may result in some activities being mainly conducted in that language. However, the team’s objective is always to create a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere for all guests. We also regret the specific inconveniences you mentioned, such as the incident in the bathroom upon your arrival. We are pleased to know that our maintenance team was able to resolve the issue quickly. Likewise, we appreciate that you highlighted the work of our housekeeping and maintenance staff, who strive every day to keep the facilities in the best possible condition. We sincerely thank you for your comments, as they help us continue improving, and we take note of your observations.Kind regards,Palia Hotels
