    Not the best experience 😕!

    rating27 May 2026

We were 3 families with 3 kids and our stay at this hotel wasn't the greatest. Positives:- The hotel's location is a very good one, close to the beach and all the shops:- The cleaning staff and the reception were very helpful, - The rooms were cleaned every day;- Plenty of food choices, but if you are a picky eater that isn't for you (in the same time we have to pay attention to the price that we pay for the holiday as well) so overall for the price we paid the food was ok.-The hotel uses reusable cups that you receive exchanging a token, that you receive at check-in. I think that is a very good ideea making people more responsible with their cups.Negatives:- the pool was closing at 6pm, thing that we found very anoing, because when the weather was ok for the kids to be out after 3 pm(at lunch it was to hot) they would be able to enjoy the pool only for a few hours .- all the staff that were supervising the pools were very rude and not helpful at all, even if the pools were closing at 6 they would start putting the fences from 5:30, and if you were still in the pool they would give you"the look" making you feel bad.I do understand they are working in that hot weather and that they want to finish their day, but all the people that come to this hotel are on holiday and I don't think is fair to make them feel guilty they want to enjoy their time by the pool.- the staff in the kitchen the same, they need customer service training, some of the chefs were polite but some of the others and the kitchen porters were always in a rush like they want yo close down, even if it was only the middle of service. - while we stayed there, between 15-22 aof May it was something wrong either with the food, either with the cleaningness of the kitchen, because the kids and 4 adults from our group were sick, vomiting and with a bad stomach for several days, and that ruined our holiday. I work in the catering business and as an advice I would say they need a head chef that can check the food taking out and the way it is is presented. The fruits and the vegetables didn't look fresh, it looked and tasted like it was leftover from last service. They could have used the left overs to cook something for the next meal, thing that they only did once when they had a taco night. Overall I wouldn't recommend this hotel for a family with kids. Would never return

    rating25 May 2026

You couldn’t pay me to ever stay in this hotel again we have been looking forward to coming for 18 months as we moved dates due to falling pregnant. We came here with our 5 month old and our 3 year old. The hotel is not 4 star in the slightest the rooms are falling apart and there are only 3 lifts for the entire hotel which caused a nightmare as we were on the 11th floor and even getting to the pool requires the lift. The pools open at 10am and close at 6 and the entertainment times wre a joke 20;45 for the kids disco/ any entertainment to begin unless you want to sign your kids into kids club?! Absolutely not.The food was undercooked my partner cut into chicken which was purple and he got very sick on day 4 and my 3 year old was also sick several times , we upgraded to all inclusive before arriving but did not eat our moneys worth , I was too scared to eat anything but chips and toast. There is no variety with the food even my 3 year old didn’t want to eat anymore. The ice cream machines were always broken aswel , the splash pools were freezing cold until the temperatures hit 27 degrees. We are not a family who have extremely high expectations or moan but honestly I wanted to come home, so upset that we didn’t have the holiday we imagined.Only good thing was the location , if you are booked here I would be changing hotels immediately Hotel Manager, Owner at Sol Barbados, responded to this review Dear Abbie,We appreciate the time you took to review your stay at Sol Barbados. We are sorry to read that some aspects of your holiday did not meet your expectations. Please rest assured that guest wellbeing and safety are always our highest priority. Overall disappointing

    rating22 May 2026

Location is good as it's close to the beach and shops. The hotel is well maintained and very clean - the room maids work hard and staff on reception are polite and helpful. Check in and out was straight forward with one of our rooms being ready early as soon as we arrived and the others soon to follow. But unfortunately we didn't like the food here, it lets the hotel down. Alot of the time it is has gone cold or is undercooked - even the rice and pasta, and fish and meat is often full of bones. They did do a Mexican night towards the end of our stay which our kids enjoyed and that was probably the best meal of the week. You can't even rely on the pizza and chips because they all taste like cardboard, the hotdogs and burgers were inedible and there wasn't a great deal of choice of salad or fruit either. I will be honest it's the worst AI buffet I've experienced for hot cooked food and the amount of wasted food I saw speaks for itself. But the sweets and desserts were nice and we liked the self serve ice-cream machines and the beer and soft drinks were good. The breakfast was probably the best meal out of the three, there are good omelettes and pancakes. The waterslides are good although the pool was freezing cold so we didn't use it much but that's due to early season not a fault if the hotel. The kids paddling pool has a strange set of stairs with water teaming down that I hardly saw anybody use. I think that would benefit from swapping to a kids slide because other than that there are just 2 small pools full of loads of animal statues squirting jets of water. Also there is a brown plastic trellis box zip tied together stood loose in the pool. My inquisitive 4 year old grandson was able to lift this up by himself to reveal a sharp broken pipe sticking up out of the ground. Of course we intervened, but this needs immediate attention so watch your kids around that. It's an accident waiting to happen. I saw other kids doing the same I think they probably think it's a treasure box or something. Most of the lifeguards are okay but there is a female one who I think has just left the army because she walks round barking orders at guests in a regimental fashion. The room was decent with ample storage and a good shower but would benefit from a place to sit and do your hair and make up as there is no mirror or power point near the dressing table and the balconies are not very private as they are not walled off from the neighbours around the tops. Magaluf is a lovely place with a stunning beach and some nice bars and shops and we would visit again but sadly this hotel was just not for us. I would give an honest 2.5 rating but it doesn't allow so it's got to be a 2/5 unfortunately. Absolute disaster holiday!

    rating19 May 2026

Where do I start? Firstly, I never leave reviews; however, I feel it’s only fair that people know what they are dealing with before coming to Sol Barbados Hotel in Magaluf. We are the type of people that make the most of situations and don’t have super high expectations so I’m gutted that this is our experience. We took our 3-year-old son on holiday for a week. This hotel has so much potential, and we were excited, but it ended up consisting of us catching the worst virus. My wife got ill on the fifth night of our holiday, and several other people also became ill that same night. She was so ill that I had to phone a doctor to the room. While our 3-year-old slept, I tried to call reception seven times with no answer to ask them to phone a doctor ASAP, but after getting no response, I had to leave her alone and go downstairs. They told me they were busy at 11pm, despite there being no guests at the desk. She felt faint, and I asked what I should do in an emergency, to which they replied, “Phone reception.” After previously getting no answer, I knew that wasn’t an option. They then didn’t seem confident while giving me the emergency number for an ambulance, and they actually gave me the wrong number. The doctor who attended was great and confirmed my wife had an illness that was probably caused by contaminated food or a contaminated surface (although the manager tried to tell us this wasn’t possible). The hotel manager contacted me personally to ask for the doctor’s report while insisting it definitely wasn’t the hotel causing the issue, when it clearly had to be. So many people were ill. They sent us up “tea and toast,” which consisted of stale, untoasted bread and boiling water in a dirty cup. This hotel uses reusable cups, which should be applauded; however, they don’t clean them properly, and we had to swap many dirty spoons and cups. They then sent us and other guests an apology note and glass bottles of orange juice, which needed to be opened with a bottle opener that we didn’t have, so we couldn’t drink them. It was almost like they never properly thought anything through. My son then became ill and woke up being sick in the early hours of the morning we had to come home. We phoned to ask for new blankets, only to be told we had to collect them from reception as no one else could help. Even though the manager confirmed they host over 1,000 guests, having only one or two people available in the middle of the night is just crazy. If you’re a single parent, you would have to either leave your child alone or keep the sick-covered blankets. This was so traumatic, as you can imagine. He then spent time in hospital after being admitted when we went to A&E because his vomit was green and he was dehydrated. Being on holiday in another country with your family becoming ill is a mother’s worst nightmare.Secondly, this hotel has strange rules. The pools (including the kids’ pool) don’t open until 10am and you cannot sit on a lounger before 10 either. They put a fence around the pool and don’t actually start taking it down until about 10:20am. They would argue that they open one part of the fence, but what if your child gets into difficulty while you’re sitting on the other side of the pool, blocked by the fence? This opening time is also late for children who wake up early. The pools are unbelievably cold. Such gorgeous pools were sitting empty because of the temperature, and everyone was commenting on it.We did try to make the most of the pools, but every 20 minutes our boy had to come out because he was shivering. The staff were also very abrupt and rude at times, especially when it came to opening and closing the pool. It “shuts” at 6pm, but they start closing it off around 5:40pm.The only staff member we found lovely was a lifeguard called Dalphine. She was very kind to our boy and very good at her job. The room cleaning staff were also nice.Thirdly, the times for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and entertainment are not child-friendly. Breakfast doesn’t start until 8am, which isn’t ideal if you have an early riser. Dinner doesn’t start until 6:30pm, and we never got to see any entertainment because it took place after dinner, which finishes at 9:30pm, by which point our boy was exhausted. The hotel uses reusable cups in exchange for a token, and you can’t have two drinks at the same time. One day, I wanted both a juice and a water, but I had to empty one drink out before getting the other. It all just felt very restrictive and unnecessary. The ice cream machine was also broken daily, meaning we couldn’t use that either, which left us with a sad toddler.Lastly, we went all-inclusive but had to spend the last three days getting food delivered to the hotel to avoid eating in their restaurant. The manager assured me the food was “safe” while my wife and toddler lay ill. Maybe the food was fine, but the doctor said it was more likely bacterial, so I couldn’t take the risk.We noticed the hotel also changed the cups to paper cups after seeing our doctor’s report, but only during mealtimes. When I asked for a paper cup outside of mealtimes, I was told there were none available, so I had to go to the shop to buy water to avoid any risk.As a family, we are absolutely gutted that this was our holiday experience. It was a holiday that was much needed, and it’s turned into a nightmare.I wrote this review so people are aware of the virus and the restrictions, since I doubt the staff are informing new guests. If you know beforehand, you might be a little more cautious or plan ahead. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Hotel Manager, Owner at Sol Barbados, responded to this review Dear Kelly,Thank you for sharing your opinion after your recent stay at Sol Barbados. We are sorry to read about the health issues your family experienced during your holiday and fully understand how distressing this situation must have been. Please rest assured that guest wellbeing and safety are always our highest priority. Following the reports received during that period, the hotel carried out external food safety audits with satisfactory results. Nevertheless, additional cleaning and disinfection measures were reinforced throughout the property as a precaution. We do appreciate your positive comments regarding our location, our lifeguard and our housekeeping staff, and we are pleased to know that some members of our team helped make certain moments of your stay more comfortable.Thank you once again for your feedback, and we sincerely hope your family is now fully recovered.Kind regards,Alicia M., Sol Barbados Team
