DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY

    rating30 Apr 2025

Booked 4 beds in a 4bed room as we are 2adults and 2children. One night stay ! Only one night !!Selected to pay at property for our preference and paid deposit. Before I left my home country, the hostel attempted to take the remaining price from my card. They emailed to say I must get in touch or my booking would be cancelled within 24hrs. I rang the hostel and had difficulty with language barrier. We moved the conversation to WhatsApp where the staff asked again for my card details for full payment. I sent screen shots highlighting that I had selected to pay at property and explained the deposit was paid and my card would be present with me, in country, WHEN I get there. Hostel response was " Okay ". Over the next week, the hostel attempted my card another 3times... repeating the original dilemma each time. Each time increasing our stress. Fast forward to check in, we arrived at the hostel to be told they had separated my family. Reception accepted the mistake as theirs and asked for 10 min grace while they sorted this issue. There was no way, we would allow our children (young teens) to sleep separate from us so we gave them this grace period while we stood on the street. Other travellers were also having similar issues at reception. By now, it's is 8.30pm. After 30min, we went back to the hostel to be told reception had been unable to deal with issue and to wait a little longer ... We chose to find an alternative place to stay. Between the stress and worry the hostel caused before we left our home country, the stress the hostel caused while we were trying to enjoy our holiday and the stress they caused when we arrived .... I honestly can't warn others enough !!! The audacity to call yourself a youth hostel while you separate adults from children is beyond my educated level of comprehension. Harassed for payment for a room YOU then gave away !!! How dare you treat people like this !!

STAY AWAY! No staff after 8pm! Missed flights because of this

    rating01 Apr 2025

DO NOT STAY HERE – Completely Unacceptable ExperienceI’ve been traveling and staying in hostels around the world for over three years, and I’ve never experienced anything remotely close to the DISASTER that was Urban Hostel in Palma. This place is grossly understaffed and completely unprepared to handle even the most basic emergencies. My two friends and I booked three beds in a four-bed room for two nights. The first night was fine. The hostel uses a four-digit code to access the rooms, and ours worked on Saturday night and Sunday morning. But when we returned at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday night to go back to our room, the code suddenly stopped working. We tried several times, but the door wouldn’t open. We went down to reception for help—only to discover there was no one there. A sign said reception hours are 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m., meaning the HOSTEL IS COMPLETELY UNSTAFFED DURING THE NIGHT. This is not okay.Desperate, we knocked on every door in the hostel trying to find someone who worked there. No luck. We then tried calling the number listed both on Google and in our confirmation email. Still no answer. While searching the hostel for any posted emergency contacts, we heard something surreal: THE PHONE WAS RINGING FROM INSIDE A LOCKED CLOSET. We could literally hear it through the door. Our passports, computers, medication, and all our personal belongings were locked inside the room, and we were starting to panic—especially since we had a 5:50 a.m. flight and needed to leave the hostel by 4:00 a.m.We even called the police for guidance, but they weren’t able to get in touch with the hostel staff either. After that, we tried a 24-hour locksmith. They responded quickly but said legally they couldn’t help us access the room without permission from someone who worked there. With no help in sight, we were forced to sleep on the couches in the common room. We missed our flight and had to purchase expensive last-minute replacements. All of this because a faulty door code locked us out and there was NO ONE TO HELP US.At 10:00 a.m., when reception reopened, the front desk staff refunded us for the night—an acknowledgment that this was their fault. But when we asked for reimbursement for the missed flights (which were entirely the hostel’s fault), he said there was nothing he could do. After a lot of pushing, he gave us an email for management. We sent a detailed email that same day attaching:Our original flight confirmationVideo and photo evidence showing we were locked out and entering the correct codeReceipts for our new flightsTo this day, we have received no response. Not even an acknowledgment of our email. This hostel is not safe. Any place that leaves guests with no way to get help for 14+ hours should NOT be allowed to operate. Please do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. The risk is simply not worth it.

Great area. Hostel has some flaws

    rating08 Nov 2024

This is the 2nd hostel I stayed in Palma. The location is excellent: Near lots of great cocktail bars, eateries, and the coastline. It's close enough to the old town and cathedral etc, yet is quiet at night.I stayed in November, and actually had a 4-bed dorm to myself the entire 3-night stay.(this won't usually happen). There are lots of showers, chilling facilities and a basic breakfast is included.A few gripes: In my dorm there is no main light. There are lights next to each bed, but it's annoying if you arrive whilst it's dark outside, and if your phone is dead, you'll never find the bedlight switch. There is also no plug accessible by the bed - just a USB port - but these ports are clearly old/unfunctional, and did not charge my phone. On the last night I realised there are actually some old sockets hidden behind the bunk bed framing, but these are not accessible due to the walling of the bed. The room could certainly be designed better for 21st century travellers. Another note is the signs that say 'no alcohol' which I don't think I've seen in any other hostel. Whether hostels like it or not, most travellers who frequent Palma are German, British, Irish or French - and we all like to socialise over drinks.

    BED BUGS ALERT!

    rating27 Sept 2019

So, first of all, let me say the hostel wasn't all bad. The location is good, close enough to the centre and nearby Paseo Maritimo, so that's great. Kindergarden is next to the hostel, so do have earplugs.BUT! The price you have to pay is way too expensive for what they offer, and the cleanliness is definitely a problem. They give you the sheets when you arrive and the beds look dirty ... I got bed bugs and I'm going crazy, feeling like scratching my skin off. It really is horrible. I told a staff member and he asked in which room (room number 5, btw) and said he is sorry about it. However, this really is an awful outcome for a hostel you overpayed in the first place.

Good hostel but there is room for improvement

    rating31 Jul 2019

Hostel was really nice, even though I was not thrilled at first, but through the course of several days I changed my opinion. The location is the best thing about this hostel, for sure. Furthermore, even though it was full, there was rarely any noise and the bathrooms and showers were always empty and available. There was enough space to chill out on sofas and beds, and it had a cosy feeling, like you're in your own house. The kitchen was good and clean. The breakfast was decent as a morning snack on the go, not the best, but at least to have something to eat. The drink however were great and they had a big variety of drinks for breakfast. Coffee is available all day, too. Pros: -Great location -Clean sheets which they give you when you come -Beds were nice and matresses weren't old -They shut down the water because of mechanical works on one of the showers one afternoon, I was really annoyed but they turned it on very quickly, so it is a plus. It was really nice of them and I could shower. The water was gone for 3 hours and I can understand that the bathroom was undergoing some repairment which is always a plus. -Big space for chilling in the kitchen and other areas, with beds and sofas -Very airy in the summer which is very very nice, hostel has a lot of open windows so there is always a constant air flow -Clean toilets -Polite and very nice staffThere are some cons, but I won't nickpick it too much. -Shower beds are not the cleanest -The carpets were not the cleanest -The ACs in the whole hostel didn't work - which is kinda bad in the summer. HOWEVER they did get repairmen who were fixing them through our last 2 days there. Luckily the hostel has great air flow and Palma has a lot of wind, so it was okay to sleep and be in the hostel even without an AC. -The building is old from the inside and there is definitely some room for small renovations. Overall I can see that they are trying and investing in this hostel, step by step. It is good that they really did have repairmen and that with time they will probably solve all the small issues they have. I can't really complain because we only needed a place to sleep and we didn't really spend much time in the hostel, but when we were there, it was what we paid for.
