Location

This hotel is surrounded by pine trees and occupies a wonderful mountainside location close to the historical Alcazaba citadel. Nearby Malaga is of course very popular with tourists and offers many restaurants and entertainment venues, as well as conference facilities. Mijas is a further 25 km from the hotel and Antequera is approximately 45 km away.

Facility

The hotel welcomes guests in a 4-storey building with a lift and 38 non-smoking rooms. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception are happy to assist guests at the reception desk round the clock. Check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day. Amenities available at the hotel include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas.     Outstanding stay; cafetería food service needs work

    Our final two nights of our trip were spent here and we enjoyed it. We arrived very early not expecting to be able to check in, but as our room was available, we were allowed to check in early. The room was on the fourth floor with its own balcony that afforded an outstanding view of the port and city. Complimentary bottled water was provided and a pot for boiling water was in the room.There were plenty of parking places in front of the hotel as well as EV charging points. On busy nights parking might fill up. Rather than drive into town or walk up and down the hill, we took the very convenient local bus. The bus stop was about 150 yards from the hotel entrance.Breakfast was standard for a parador with plenty of options to choose from. The breakfast staff were constantly busy seating people, refilling the buffet, delivering food, or cleaning. However, when entering the sign says please wait to be seated. Our first morning we waited 5 minutes before getting someone’s attention who then said sit anywhere. That’s what the sign should say, and when finally noticed, one could provide their room number.Then there’s the cafeteria service. We ate at it our last night and it seems that because we were around the corner on the side, nobody noticed us. It was a chore to get somebody’s attention and overall three different people attended to us. The food was fine and after eating we asked for the dessert menu. Ten minutes later it arrived, but nobody ever returned to see if we wanted anything. Eventually, I got a waitress’s attention through a window to get the bill. She was attending to someone on the front side of the cafeteria. It was brought out by a fourth person. The food was fine, but the service was lacking.     View only. We made dinner reservations for our group. The appetizers were good but all 10 main course were horrible.Not worth it. If you want to go see it just order drinks and appetizers to enjoy the view.     Great hotel with the view on the whole Malaga coast. Rooms have balconies and they were a real treat in the sunshine with the view! Rooms were spacious and clean. Loved the streaming service in the room that allowed us to stream movies from our phones to the room tv. The only disadvantage of this hotel was that the staff working in the bar that night was extremely slow and it took a long time to get your drink delivered.     Parador Gibralfaro, as with the other Paradors I have visited is just fabulous, location must be the best in the city for stunning scenery and views. I honestly could not fault a single thing, would highly recommend. The bus service is extremely reliable and cheap, we used it most days to return to the hotel as the uphill road is challenging ! Just a fabulous hotel all round, rooms, service, food, wonderful breakfast choices. When visiting Spain I would always choose a Parador over any other hotels where Possible.     A good Parador but there a more impressive ones
