This was the worst experience i had in years. The location is not bad and there are many restaurants and shopping in the areaThe apartment is ok and clean but the walls and ceilings are so thin that you can hear the slightest noise around you.Its obvious that this was once a big apartment that was split into several small ones using the cheapest materials. Sound proofing is non existent and absolutely terrible. And since customer service is bad anyway in Spain and this is no exception when writing to the management. They could not care less and give you a warm apology that does not help anyone.Worst experience in decades

Our stay in Madrid
26 Oct 2022
First the place was not easy to find as it was just a littled door in an alley. Once you find it, it was ok. The appartment was not exactly as in the pictures, but it was still great. There was an elevator (thank God!) and the building was pretty quiet. The appartment is located right in the center, 10-minute walk from Plaza España and 200 metres from Gran Via and Chueca Metro Stations, and lots and lots of restaurants and stores. Be aware, you get the code to the appartment only when you do your online check in AND pay a deposit (for damage and stuff) online. If you are not connected and don't have access to email it may be an issue. In my case, i only checked my email once or twice a week (missed the one for deposit obviously) - but it worked out fine in the end.

Awful - Buyer Beware!

The pictures a misrepresentation of the apartment. I have been staying in Madrid frequently for a number for a number for years, and this place is a total rip off. Small, noisy, dirty and smelly sums this place up. Our apartment was directly above the bar on the first floor. The noise, from 0800 til after midnight is horrendous. If we opened the doors to the balcony the bedroom was filled with smoke from the smokers below. At night, we thought we could lower the shutters to block out the light and noise. But the shutters wouldn't close fully....We had a lamp in the room with no socket - if you can call it a lamp. (pic attached). above the bed was a light switch that hadn't been fixed correctly. (see pic). Surely this is a health and safety hazard? The air-con worked intermittently. The main room had a dirty sofa bed for 1. (pic attached). There was a lamp that could only be used if the wifi was unplugged.(pic). The living area was tiny. Total misrepresentation by smartRentals. There were some pluses - great location, hot water/pressure was good and the mattress was comfy.

Dear ColinThank you for sharing your experience. We have different apartments, so, we have different pictures in each apartment. Maybe you have seen the pictures which belong to another apartment, but, if you want, for example one apartment with one bedroom, you can see all the pictures attached in any website. For the rest of the problems that you had in the apartment, we did not know, obviously, we would have helped you with the small things, but, please, you have to let us know. For your disposal, we have a contact number working 24 hours, so, there is no misrepresentation. We hope to see you againBest regards

Some good points, some very bad points

Stayed there 4 nights, December 2018. The apartment was small but adequate - you expect that for so central a location, and perfectly clean. The bed was firm but comfortable. The kitchen area had 4 bar stools along a squeaky counter and two padded foot stools. There were no other seats. Excellent wifi. There was a fridge freezer, microwave and 3 ring cooker, and even a washing machine, but no washing up liquid or cloths if you did want to use and clean the pair of glasses etc. A traditional property with stone floors, so noise from high heels etc travels well. The lighting was intensely bright "daylight white" LED downlighters in both kitchen and bedroom, though there was a giant angle-poise lamp and a bedside light.Despite staying 4 nights, there was no change of towels or bed linen included, which the friendly and helpful guy who spoke good English and gave me the keys sold as a privacy feature, though not quite private enough: despite the multiple security bolts activated by the door lock, some cash I had left in what I considered a pretty secure room was stolen. It must have been somebody with a key. Unrelated to this property an attempt was also made to pickpocket me on the Metro. Be careful in Madrid!

Dear Guest, First of all, thank you for your comment. We took note of the inconvience that you had, specially with the lighting. Regarding the change of towels and bed linen, as we told you during the check in, is not included since we are not a Hotel but touristic apartments. Regarding the cash that was supposedly stole from your apartment, we did check lock the inly key that was used to enter the apartment was the one that you had. As you said, unfortunaly, there are many pickpockets in Madrid, so you can had been stolen the cash outside. Best wishes,

Great location, clean, comfortable. Noisy room and overpriced for the time of year.

Having visited Madrid several times over the years for an Exhibition I have stayed in various types of establishments.I am going to break this one down into the good and not so good aspects.GoodLocation- the flats are fairly easy to get to from the airport by Metro with a station Chueca 5 minutes away. This is fine if you have only a small amount of luggage with you. There are places on the metro with stairs. The physical location of the flats is good. A short walk, 5-10 minutes to Grand Via. Also again easy to get to the Exhibition Halls which are located near to the airport.Room - I had a room on the second floor which with the window open was a bit noisy from the cafes below and across the street. As it wasn’t too warm I could close the shutters which kept the noise out. I would recommend getting a room at the back. The room itself was spacious and clean with a double bed, bathroom with a good shower and small kitchenette. If you really wanted to cook or wash some clothes it’s very handy. There are two small TVs (one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen) but only Spanish channels. If you like daytime very soft porn you should be good to go.Not so goodCheck-in - as these are apartments there is no ‘front desk’. You are advised to call ahead of arrival so that the ‘caretaker’ knows you are arriving. You need to listen carefully to the ‘auto’ options when you call the main number. I called when I got to Chueca and when I eventually found the front door and worked out which button to press I met with a very amiable guy (sorry I cannot remember his name) who showed me the room and ran through the details. The WiFi code is on the back of the front door (has to call again to find that out). This is all ok but not having a desk you can go to is a little annoying.PriceThis is my bug bear. Because huge exhibition I was attending accommodation was at a premium and prices are very inflated. Availability also goes quickly. I was guessing that I paid maybe twice the standard rate for average accommodation. My advice is book as early as possible.Room location - as mentioned the rooms overlooking the street are noisy if you leave the window open.
