  We had a wonderful week at the Macarella Suites. Our second visit many years apart but still excellent accommodation, super staff, with harbour, beach & supermarket within a short walking distance. Bus stop 25m. Would highly recommended.

  Lovely quiet hotel

  We stayed here for 10 days in September on the 2nd floor. Initially it seemed quite a walk and we had to negotiate a small flight of stairs, which when you're heading for 80 with suitcases was quite a haul, so maybe it would be an idea if they took the cases to the room for you like many 4 star hotels do.However, we found the allocated room very pleasant, it overlooked the pool (paid extra for this) we found the decor quite relaxing and the suite was spacious. A shout out for the cleaners here, as they work very hard and the room was always spotless and bedding/towels changed regularly.We found the breakfast very good but the evening meals were quite repetitive and a little bland. The staff once again though, first class. Cheerful, helpful and always very efficient - could not fault them.We would visit again as it's a lovely quiet hotel, near the beach & marina and has an excellent pool and indoor pool also, but I think b & b would suit us best.

  Just returned from a wonderful 7 night stay. Hotel is very clean, which is important to us. Room was spacious and bed very comfortable. Hotel staff are so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful and lots of choice. Pool area and grounds well managed and maintained. I used the Spa for a treatment which was reasonably priced and relaxing. Located close to supermarket and Marina with a choice of restaurants and bars.Would definitely return and recommend.

  5 Days in Cala Bosch

  Grupotels have been on my radar for some time so when me and Mrs A decided to take a break in the Balearic's I then narrowed down the resort.We arrived early in the day and not surprisingly our room was not ready so we took a walk and returned at 2.00pm. The receptionist checked us in and directed us to our suite. I had asked for a room off the ground and in a quiet location and it was room 228 which overlooked the pool.The suite has a full kitchenette consisting of a kettle, microwave, two ring hob, large very cold fridge, table and 4 chairs . The lounge part has 2 sofa's that could seat 5 people and a large TV with English channels 1 to 5 plus other cable channels including Film 4.The bedroom is 2 single beds, lots of storage space, a safe costing 3 euro per day and good air conditioning. A good idea is to take a 4 gang electric extension as there are not many power points.The bathroom is spacious with a bath with a shower over plus a separate shower in a cubicle. Strange thing though the toilet is up a step and you step down in to the shower cubicle. This could be dangerous in the dark or for the infirm. The toilet is also set in a narrow recess which might be a problem for a larger person.The building is a bit of a rabbit warren with short stairs in places and it may take time to find your way around. The restaurant downstairs can only be accessed by one staircase and when you enter you have to wait to show your room card and show it again when you order drinks. The staff are friendly, hard working and efficient but an extra pair of hands is needed when they are busy. That said the restaurant was never busy when we were there as I think some people may be on bed and breakfast and go out in the evening. Dress code allows shorts.The hotel is not that big so the choice of food is not always that large which can be a problem when it is a theme night. There is always some one show cooking and there was a choice of at least 3 meats. The drinks seemed to be a reasonable price and the house wines were okay. Breakfast was the standard self serve fare with a good choice but I found the bacon always very fatty.The indoor swimming pool and sauna was a disappointment. I tried the sauna but when I went for a breather and sat at the side of the pool the jets activated and the air was very toxic. It might be salt of chlorine but my eyes were streaming so I left. There is a good sized outdoor swimming pool with sloping access at one end and 2 metre deep at the other. The sunbeds are clean and plentiful. Reserving sun loungers is forbidden but there were never more than 30% in use at any time.There is no daytime entertainment and the evening entertainment is 3 times a week, a violinist, a saxophone player or a guitarist. We went to the Valentin Star where non residents can watch their evening cabaret paying for drinks by either cash or card. We saw a Michael Jackson tribute and a showband, both were quite good. The hotel is close to the walking trails which are well sign posted.Outside is a bus stop to Ciutadella but the early buses can be popular and pass by when full. Around the hotel are shops, bars and restaurants. The main beach is a matter of minutes away but there is another beach a bit stoney in places at Son Xoriguer a 10 minute walk away. Both beaches have crystal clear water with plenty of fish swimming around your ankles. Hire of 2 sunbeds and a parasol is 21 euro. There is a good supermarket 50 yards away and a car hire place.The clientele at this hotel is mainly mature. I only saw one toddler all week and personally I would not recommend it for children. It is a comfortable hotel for a quiet holiday and close enough to the beach, bars,restaurants and the Cami De Cavalls walking trailsI did not find Cala Bosch very inspiring and am unlikely to return but would visit other Grupotels based on my experience here
