Excellent staff but hotel in need of updating / renovation.

    rating12 Dec 2025

We have been staying in Es Castell almost yearly since 2015 but this was our first time at the Seth Agemenon. We booked a double room with balcony on a half board basis the last week of September / first week of October 2025.Arrival and check-inWe arrived way before the standard check-it time of 2pm. We were very pleasantly surprised to be told that our room was ready when we arrived at approximately 10am. Check-in was friendly, helpful and informative with Cilli on reception.RoomThe bedroom was spacious but very dated and in desperate need of being totally refurbished. The 2 single beds pushed together were very uncomfortable. The wardrobe was large and had plenty of storage space for a week although not suitable for full length dresses and came with minimal hangers. This also housed a small key operated safe that was €12.00 for the week plus a €6.00 deposit. There was a mini fridge that was handy for storing water and drinks etc. The WIFI was free and was fine for surfing the web and sending emails etc. We found the air-conditioning very effective and not too noisy.BathroomThe bathroom had a nice large walk in shower with both rain shower and hose attachment that had decent water pressure and there was always hot water on demand. The towels were large, soft and fluffy which we really liked.BalconyThe balcony had adequate space for the two chairs and table provided. The views to the left and directly ahead were of residential apartment buildings and immediately to the right and ahead in the distance stunning views of Mahon port and harbour. During our stay the last week of September / first week of October we had sun on the balcony from 2pm until sundownHouse keepingOur room was kept spotlessly clean by the excellent maids as was the rest of the hotel. Towels were changed as and when required and there was also an option to have the bedding changed half way through our weeks stay.Dining roomThere was a good selection of hot and cold food at both breakfast and evening meals and although there was a microwave available we did not need to reheat one meal. The views from the dining room are lovely.Snack BarWe enjoyed a couple of light lunches at the poolside snack bar. The portions were generous and the prices very reasonable as were the drinks at the bar.Pool areaWe noticed staff cleaning the pool on a regular basis but the sunbeds were very old and stained.Apart from one or two inconsiderate people most of the guests refrained from reserving the sunbeds and there was always plenty to go around at the time of year that we stayed.EntertainmentDuring our stay the entertainment was only on Saturday & Wednesdays nights and both acts were singers but quite enjoyable.Location.The Seth Agemenon is an excellent base for exploring the Island of Menorca with the bus stop just a few minutes walk away with cheap transfers across the whole island. The lovely picturesque Cala Fonts is around a 10 to 15 minute walk away which has some lovely restaurants and the views over the harbour are beautiful. The is not an adults only hotel which we normally ever only book when possible. During our stay in the hotel we only noticed 2 (very well behaved) babies and no children. However this hotel is located in a residential area so you can expect to hear all of the noise associated with a property located in such an area and for me this became more and more irritating as our holiday went on although to be fair it would probably not bother most people. None of this is the fault of the hotel and I should have done more research on the location of the hotel and position of the rooms. To sum up.Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday but what made our stay special was the staff all of whom were some of the best that we have come across on our holidays. The Seth Agemenon hotel is tired and in desperate need of renovation especially the rooms and although kept spotlessly clean in our opinion should currently be rated as a 3* hotel .

    Fantastic staff at this hotel....

    rating20 Oct 2025

We had a fantastic week stay at the Seth Agamenon hotel! The hotel is due to close having been taken over by IHG Hotels so seems pointless reviewing the current facilities. The **STARS** of this hotel are the wonderful staff! They are such a friendly but professional team and their service never wavered even in what must be a real period of uncertainty for them. They are an absolute credit to this hotel. The cleaning/maintenance of the hotel is excellent. The chefs/restaurant staff worked incredibly hard at meals time to provide some wonderful food/restaurant service. Harold behind the bar was a real character providing excellent evening drinks. However, the standout person for us was Andrea on reception - she gave a warm, friendly and informative welcome on arrival - a fantastic, customer focussed first impression! She arranged for us to exchange our evening meal at the Mahon Port hotel so we could have an evening in the town! (Wasn't as good as Agamenon but was a nice change). She made a point of saying hello whenever we passed reception so felt you could ask her views whenever you needed to. This hotel is in a excellent location, so we are looking forward to seeing what the refurbished hotel will look like when it re-opens in 2026. In the meantime, we wish the fantastic team at Agamenon all the very best for the future! Ernestina Valentino Hotel Manager, Otros at Hotel Agamenon Affiliated by Senator, responded to this review Dear Sam,Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review, it truly means a lot to us. We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay at the Seth Agamenón and that our team made such a positive impression on your visit.Your generous words about our staff, from the housekeeping and restaurant teams to Harold at the bar, are incredibly encouraging. We're especially happy to hear that Andrea stood out and helped make your experience even more memorable. She, like the rest of our team, is passionate about offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and your recognition is a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do.We're also glad you had the opportunity to enjoy both the tranquility of our location and the charm of Mahón. Thank you once again for your heartfelt message. On behalf of the entire team at the Seth Agamenón, we wish you all the best and hope to welcome you back in the future.Warm regards,

    Fantastic holiday in every aspect!

    rating17 Oct 2025

The beauty of this hotel is the location overlooking the entrance to Mahon port, within a quiet residential area and fantastic views as far as the eye can see. Sea view rooms, with everything you may need, comfy bed, nice shower/bathroom, daily room service, kettle and fridge. A good walk in to the centre of Mahon or a short bus ride.Although this hotel is to close for refurbishment under new owners(IHG) the real gems of this hotel are the staff - Yazmin from the Restaurant, Harold from the Bar and a special mention to Andrea from Reception a great ambassador for Seth Hotels! Wishing everyone the best and hoping to visit this venue again in the near future. Ernestina Valentino Hotel Manager, Otros at Hotel Agamenon Affiliated by Senator, responded to this review Dear Darren,Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated our unique location overlooking Mahón port. Great Hotel

    rating16 Oct 2025

Back home from a week at this hotel . This was our first visit and we fully agree with all the positive comments in previous reviews . It is correct that the facilities in some areas are looking a little tired . I hope under new management that any minor deficiencies are corrected and that the hotel retains its excellent standard of service . Delightful hotel!

    rating13 Oct 2025

We are just back from another glorious two weeks at this hotel. Everything was as remembered, although I did feel the food was not quite as good as last time. The thing though that makes this hotel so special are the staff. Cleo and Alec in the dining room, with two lovely girls to assist. The reception staff are so lovely and helpful, the maids do a great job. The star of the show has to be Harold in the bar! He produces the most divine cocktails and makes even an ordinary drink look exciting! Now there is sadness hanging over the hotel, due to Set Hotels selling the Agamenon. Guests and staff both are really upset by the changes this will bring. All that I can say is that the hotel needs a thorough upgrade. Rooms, public areas, and the seating in the lounge all need to be changed to a more acceptable level. All we can do is await the news for next year, and hope, above all, that the lovely staff are the first consideration of the new owners. Ernestina Valentino Hotel Manager, Otros at Hotel Agamenon Affiliated by Senator, responded to this review Dear Judy,Thank you so much for your kind and heartfelt review. We're truly delighted to hear that you enjoyed another wonderful two-week stay with us and that our team helped make your visit so special once again. It’s always a pleasure to hear such lovely comments about our staff, especially Cleo, Alex, and the dining room team, our reception staff, housekeeping, and of course, Harold at the bar. Your kind words will be passed on to them, and we know it will mean a great deal. We’re sorry to hear that the food didn’t quite meet your expectations this time, and we appreciate your honest feedback. It helps us continue to improve. Our staff and returning guests are truly the heart of this hotel, and their well-being and the unique atmosphere we’ve built together are incredibly important. Thank you once again for your continued support. We hope to welcome you back next year, and we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have more news to share.Warmest regards,
