The food really ruins the experience

    rating02 Nov 2025

This is a unique experience, and while the room was nice once I turned the radiator up to max, electrical outlets are scarce. It would be a lot nicer in the summer, but now at the beginning of November, it is cold and the walkways (and of course, gardens) are cold. The main problem is the restaurant, which has terrible food. My friend's fish was "poor", my wife described her chicken as "ok" but only ate half, and my steak ranks as one of the worst I've tried to eat in 80 years. It no meat flavor, no condiments, and in-spite of requesting "more than medium, so there is no red, it was, for me, undercooked. I asked the waitress for pepper, and several minutes later she brought me one little paper packet, so I had to ask for more. With 5 packets I was able to eat about half (until the mushrooms ran out). So if you go, take the time to go a few km up the road to Carballiño where there are some decent restaurants.

    Wonderful hotel

    rating27 Aug 2019

This Monastery is very beautiful and we were given an very large room with incredibly high ceiling. There was a door opening to a balcony with stunning views of the small vineyard at the property. The bathroom is modern and brand new with rain shower head and bath tub, everything working perfectly. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Jessica at the front desk. She was able to source us a power strip at 11pm, since there are no extra plug outlets in the room and we had at least 3 electronic devices to charge in the evening. Breakfast is very good with great variety of high quality product: amazingly sweet fruits, cold cuts, cheese, excellent bread, cakes, fresh squeezed orange juice and nice coffee. The lady working at breakfast (Doris?) was pleasant, smiling and helpful for anything else we wanted. The hotel has a small swimming pool, but no one was using it while we were there, even when the weather was 30C+. The pool chairs are new and the area is nicely kept. The only negative is what others have said, the walls are a bit thin, but it really depends on your neighbors. We had great sleep and only one night out of 5, we could hear the neighbor’s alarm. Otherwise, the hotel is super quiet. Only thing missing was a sofa in the room as there is so much space. The restaurant is closed on Sunday evening, Monday and Tuesday. We arrived on Sunday evening, so we ate in the simple restaurant just outside the hotel, O Mosteiro, and it was more than fine. Not far from the hotel, we visited a very small nice winery, Pazo Tizon, which has a award winning white Ribeiro wine. It was a great stay and we would definitely come back!

    Beautiful monastery

    rating14 Aug 2019

Beautiful quiet monastery with very friendly staff. Room was fine but WiFi in the room isn’t super strong. Location is very nice. Hotel has a swimming pool with reclining beds but not very much other space to stay during the day.

    Excellent and quit

A warm welcome was signified for this hotel in a former monastery near Leiro. Friendly service during our whole stay from the reception staff to the restaurant staff. A wide range of fruits, bread, meat and all kind of cakes for breakfast as well as tasty food for dinner. We highly recommend this special place to visit interesting and historical places nearby. Unfortunatley you only reach them by car. It is a great pleasure to get time for yourself at this former monastery with two green courtyards inside.

Magnificent building and rooms, but thin walls

    rating23 Sept 2017

The monastery is beautifully maintained, has an imposing presence, and oozes age. The part of the hotel which had our room had an old stone slab floor, with windows into the quad. The room was vast, with ceilings of maybe 10 m high. A small window. It was a little stark, and should have had more touches of comfort, like a few rugs, and a sofa. It is certainly large enough. There is a small enclosed, pool, area, which was opened for us in the middle of Sept. The downsides? The walls between rooms are paper thin, so your sleep quality/ time of sleep/awakening are dependent upon those in neighbouring rooms. This is made worse by the floors, which seem to echo between rooms. Every footstep from the next room is heard.A memorable place, though
