    Well situated to visit town

    rating21 Apr 2023

This is a well situated hotel to visit the town, just across the river near the center of town. The staff are friendly, the hotel is not that new and might require a renovation, but room was clean and the staff friendly. Parking was for us no problem in front of the lobby.

Just about OK but not 4 stars

    rating11 Oct 2019

Hotel Rey Sancho is rather tatty and scruffy. It's certainly a long way from 4 stars. The corridors are shabby and the rooms in need of renovation. When we booked, the hotel was advertised as having a pool, but we were told when we got the booking confimation that the pool was closed. It looks like it has been closed for some time - being somewhat green with algae and full of dirt and leaves. Our room was spacious but we were plagued with mosquitoes. It seems other people have been too as there were a lot of dead mosquito traces on the walls. The walls were paper thin - we could hear everything our neighbour in the next room was doing and saying, including his TV set and his visits to the bathroom.Staff were very pleasant and the price was OK, but we have stayed in better places and paid less.

    Stay for 2 nights

Hotel is located close to the center. Old building, need some renovation. For 4 start hotel it was disappointing to have dirty walls, not working flash in the toilet, fungus in the ventilation and cracks in the bathroom.Although the room was ready before check in.

You get what you pay for. Lovely in place, poor in others. Needs some updating - and more parking spaces!!

Not a bad hotel, but many things could be improved: - the shower area within the room's bathroom has no light and is therefore dingy and unappealing. - there's a safe in the room, but you have to ask for a key (and probably leave a deposit etc). Not very trusting! - the pool area is open to outsiders, and gets very busy. - the restaurant area (outside, next to the pool) is pretty basic, with marginally acceptable food (the bread rolls were solid, my steak was tough and leathery - but my wife's hake was very good). - there's no beer choice in the restaurant: San Miguel or San Miguel. The wine choice is a little better, with about 20 to choose from.As stated by previous reviewers, parking is random - you will be very lucky to park onsite or on a nearby street. But that seems to be a problem throughout Palencia. On the plus side, the upstairs corridors are lovely with fabulous carpets and wall adornings (shame the rooms don't follow suit). The staff are friendly - but you won't see enough of them.We (my wife and I)paid less than EUR60 for our room, with a double bed and ensuite bathroom. The room was clean and bright, the bed was comfortable enough, but the pillows were a little too soft (we could have asked for more, but didn't).Would we go back? Well, probably, knowing now what to expect - but I doubt we'd eat at the restaurant as there seem to be plenty of other options within a few minutes walk.Would I reccommend? Read the reviews first, then make up your own mind!!

Six night stay whilst visiting the area

    rating17 Aug 2016

We used the hotel as a base for six nights whilst we were visiting family and exploring the area, and on that basis the hotel suited us perfectly well. The reception staff were friendly and very accommodating of my low-level of Spanish language speaking (they spoke fluent English), and the room we were given had very comfortable beds, air conditioning, and good bathroom facilities. We tried the hotel restaurant on our first day, the food was excellent! Breakfast in the morning is done in a buffet style, limited range for vegetarians but enough to keep you well fed.Parking by the hotel door is limited, but they do have a large gravel car park next door. Your car will get dusty! In terms of proximity to the town centre, everything is within walking distance of the hotel, it's ideally suited for anyone wanting to see the local sights.
