  Stunning setting, but unfortunately that’s were it ends.

  The setting of the Parador is exceptional and the views are stunning. The bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, those were the highlights of a stay that fell well below what I would expect from a hotel of this standard, particularly at the price charged.The room itself felt tired and rather tatty. Several of the doors did not close properly because they appeared not to have been fitted or maintained correctly. I mentioned this at reception and explained that the room needed work, but the member of staff did not even ask which room we were staying in. Reception service generally felt very hit and miss.Breakfast was particularly disappointing. We were asked in advance what time we wanted to come to breakfast, which made the poor service even more surprising. Other tables were approached for their hot-food orders while we were repeatedly ignored. When I eventually asked whether I could order, I was told yes, and then ignored again. When the hot breakfast finally arrived, it was cold. Having waited 15 minutes for a hot version, I gave up!Some of the hotel’s rules also seemed unnecessarily rigid and illogical. You can have bar food and drinks on the terrace and in the bar, yet in the courtyard you are apparently allowed drinks only, not food. Given that these are all hotel seating areas, the distinction seemed arbitrary and made the experience more awkward than it needed to be.The restaurant opposite the chapel was another disappointment. We were told it was tapas restaurant, but in reality it was nothing of the sort, which was frustrating when we had chosen it on that basis.What makes all of this especially disappointing is that the property has enormous potential. With its location, architecture and views, it genuinely could offer a five-star experience. At present, though, it has a long way to go. The maintenance required, lack of consistency of service and lack of attention to basic details simply do not match the surroundings or the price.For what we paid, I did not consider this good value.   Soo old and way overpriced

  It's impossible yo give more than 3 starsIts SO OLD. Desperately in need of a total and complete upgrading. ALL the outdated furniture is only fit to be burnt on a bonfire. Bathrooms are ancient rubbish museum pieces. Nothing has changed since the 1980'sConsidering it's State owned , it's a very poor reflection of the government tourism office competence. Room rates are astronomically expensive for what is really only a 3 star old hotel. Location is fabulous and reception staff are friendly and everywhere is immaculately clean.. the ONLY positive commentsBetter is to stay elsewhere in the cute town at less than half these prices and walk around the ramparts of this Parador. recepcion Baiona, Other at Parador de Baiona, responded to this review Dear Vinum,Thank you for sharing your feedback.   A favorite of all of us

  Third year in a row for our family road trip. The location is spectacular with a two tiered walk around the castle, swimming in the bay and places to eat in the harbor as well as at the hotel. Rooms are large and cheerful with views of the bay. We were on a two night, media pension rate which included breakfast each morning plus one main meal per day. Our first night we walked down about 100 yds to Enxebre, one of the main restaurants of the parador, for a lovely dinner on the terrace with beautiful views of the castle and sunset. My DIL's fell in love with the vieras (little scallops) there and in other parts of Asturias. The menfolk were in search of the best ham croquettes and chocolate con churros. Next day we had a nice Sunday lunch on the terrace of the main building. The bar service on the popular terrace on the other side of the building is slow and if you want a snack supper in the bar, I do not recommend it, for very slow service and small selection. Go back to Enxebre or walk down to town for a meal. The breakfast is wonderful, especially if the weather isn't too windy to sit on the terrace. Just beware of the robber seagulls that lurk about waiting to grab your toast or whatever else you've left unguarded when you go back to the buffet. My room #108 did not have a walk-in shower but was big, bright, good lighting with a reading chair as well as desk and chair.   Our group stayed here on our Camino pilgrimage. An amazing discovery at the end of the first day of walking! Beautiful property with spectacular views. Huge pool, uncrowded, overlooking the ocean.   This hotel has a spectacular setting and comes close to 5-star quality

  I recently stayed at the Parador de Baiona as part of a tour across Spain. Having stayed at several other parador properties earlier in the trip, I arrived with a good understanding of the chain and what to expect.The setting is simply spectacular. The hotel occupies a unique location within the historic fortress overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in Baiona. The parador chain has done an excellent job integrating a modern hotel into the old crenellated castle walls. The newer portions of the building utilize traditional architecture and period-inspired decor that complement the genuinely old fortress.Overall, I would describe the hotel as a very solid 4-star property.One thing I appreciated was that, unlike some other parador hotels, there was a bellman/porter available upon arrival to assist with luggage. Curiously, however, there was no bellman/porter available when it came time to check out and leave.Check-in was efficient, but there was no welcome letter or guest information provided. This felt like a missed opportunity. A welcome letter can be useful for explaining hotel amenities, dining options, services, and local attractions. In fact, I found it somewhat odd that there was virtually no information available anywhere about either the hotel or Baiona itself.My room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. However, as with other parador properties I visited, some amenities that many travelers would expect were absent. Most notably, there were no bathrobes or slippers. The minibar was stocked with water and soft drinks but contained no wine. I also noticed there was no stationery or postcard in the room. I would have enjoyed sending a postcard home. When I asked at the front desk whether postcards were available, I was told they did not have any postcards. Dinner and breakfast are served in the same dining room. The quality of the evening meal was excellent, and the service was impeccable. Unfortunately, the atmosphere did not match the quality of the food. The room still felt very much like the breakfast buffet area with cereals and other breakfast items remaining visible. It lacks the sense of occasion one expects from such a historic property. This is especially puzzling because the hotel has an attractive lobby bar in a separate space with outdoor seating. That area feels far more suitable for a memorable dining experience.Breakfast was very good. The buffet offered a strong selection from the buffet with an option for eggs cooked to order. There was even self-service cava sparkling wine available. Would I return? Absolutely. The location alone makes the Parador de Baiona worth visiting. The hotel delivers a comfortable and enjoyable stay. As it stands, I consider it a strong 4-star property.
