Faded glory, just a little bit sad and unworthy of the purported 4 star rating

We stayed at this hotel because we made an ad hoc decision to break our journey between Porto, Portugal and Bilbao, Spain. Salamanca was a natural choice with its amazing streetscape, vibrant cafe culture and urban beauty. We chose the ‘Exe’ because the tariff was (to 2 senior Australians) very reasonable - of course that was not counting the €15 parking and before we discovered that it was another €13 per person for a breakfast that I’d describe as beyond ordinary & by the discontented muttering of most guests they were equally unimpressed. The upside was the spacious room, the soft bedding and the terrific location. The downside - a lift that made bizarre shuddering noises which echoed through the building, no way to adjust the aircon OR prop open a window. The insult - on checkout we were asked if we’d used the minibar, husband thought not, I said we’d used 2 bottles of water (we both thought was complimentary because the smell of chlorine in the tap water was overwhelming). Sadly that assumption was wrong @ a mere €2 - not a fortune but the final ‘straw’ on my spouses ‘outrage’ index. I had to hustle him out before he could voice his opinion! NB there was no minibar ‘list’ describing the contents and our experience has been that at least some water is complimentary throughout Spain. Conclusion - there are many other hotels in Salamanca that, if you add the extra €45 we paid will give you a far better experience than this tired, creaky and sneaky establishment.

Good business hotel on edge of tourist area
21 Sept 2025
Clean and functional, and not too far from the tourist central areas. Breakfast is good and the rooms are fine. They have 2 car parks, both of which have tiny little underground spaces. Despite e-mailing to ask for the biggest space possible, they tried to wedge us in a small corner. All the settled eventually.

Adequate but no wow factor

Perfectly adequate for a couple of nights stay. The rooms are fine, the breakfast was OK, the location was good for walking into the main tourist area. Parking is always going to be an issue in historic towns, and this hotel does have some spaces, which were across the road. You have to get the receptionist to open the door, which means standing off and running in. We were allocated a space there was no way we could have got the car into...then we were given a bigger space, but told we may have to move after the first night. That didn't happen, so not a problem.Trays of pastries in reception all day !!

Good location

Wonderful hotel but, to be honest, doesn't look that impressive from the outside. It was clean, the staff superb and the location was fairly central. We were there with another couple and we all said we would probably stay here again if in the area.

Excellent clean hotel

This is an excellent, clean and modern hotel about 10 minutes walk from Plaza Mayor. Rooms were basic but modern and spotlessly clean. Bed was comfortable. The parking below the hotel is extremely tight, and when I let them know I was having difficulty they immediately offered me a space in an alternative across the road, which was much wider. Breakfast was good with a wide range of choices and customer service excellent throughout, particularly the lady who helped me with the parking.
