Calafell is a nice beach town - the hotel is very basic

    rating22 Sept 2026

We stayed at Hotel Canada Palace over Easter as part of a U.S. Olympic Development Program soccer trip, so the hotel was selected for our group rather than something we chose ourselves.Calafell itself was a pleasant surprise. It’s a cute, relaxed beach town with plenty of small restaurants, cafés and convenience stores within easy walking distance. The beach is quite nice - I actually preferred it to the beach we visited in Sitges - and the long beachfront promenade is great for walking and finding somewhere to eat.Unfortunately, the hotel itself is very basic and not somewhere I would personally choose for a vacation. The rooms are small, with limited closet and bathroom space. We did have a balcony, which was nice, but during our spring stay the hotel had essentially turned off the room climate control. Temperatures could get fairly warm during the day, so the only real option was opening the balcony door. Unfortunately, our neighbor frequently smoked on their balcony, meaning fresh air also came with cigarette smoke entering our room. Bedding was extremely basic as well, essentially a single sheet, so I would recommend asking for an additional blanket. The hotel was absolutely packed over Easter with youth boys’ and girls’ soccer teams from Spain and overseas. There are only two very small elevators, which simply aren’t adequate when the hotel is full. If you’re traveling with large luggage, bring some patience. At busy times, taking the stairs can genuinely be easier. The hotel buffet does make an effort to provide a decent variety, but the quality and flavor are about what you would expect from a basic group-tour hotel. Unless eating there is included with your stay and convenience is the priority, I would skip it. There is a small bakery/coffee shop about a block away where we had much better breakfast options, and there are plenty of restaurants throughout town and along the beachfront. We particularly enjoyed Waves on the beach. There is a pool and bar area, and both are perfectly fine. But you’re in a Mediterranean beach town - go enjoy the beach rather than spending your vacation at this pool. The front desk staff seemed to be doing their best, but the desk was very easily overwhelmed whenever groups arrived or everyone needed something at once. Don’t expect much individual attention during busy periods.Overall, the hotel served its purpose for a large organized youth soccer trip: it gave everyone a place to sleep, eat and meet before heading out each day. But that’s about where I would set expectations.Calafell itself is worth visiting, and we enjoyed the town and beach. If I were independently choosing and paying for accommodations in this area, however, I would stay somewhere else - either at one of the nicer properties in the Calafell area or simply base myself in Sitges. I would happily return to this part of the coast; I just wouldn’t choose this particular hotel again.

    Very Pleasant stay / easy

    rating12 Sept 2024

Canada place Hotel is in a great location for an easy walk to the town or the seafront. Staff were absolutely lovely - Coped with English language in the front desk and the reception staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Some of the decor in the building is a tad old fashioned but everything is kept very clean. I saw House keepers mopping floors daily and they absolutely keep on top of everything. Balconies on the rooms that have them are kept clean and all of them are equipped with small table and chairs. Air con in the rooms we stayed in worked efficiently and the beds were comfortable. Parking in the adjacent street is free but if you want to pay for parking the hotel has a very large gated private parking space right next to the hotel.Food was buffet style loads of choice fresh daily and constantly replenished. Not poor quality and very varied. Not so vast on vegan options but easy to find plenty of vegetables etc suitable for those of us avoiding meat or dairy. Hotel bar was very typically priced for Spain ..the drinks are strong and Piña Coladas were top notch. Pool area was nice and mopped and cleaned every single day. Thank you for making our stay so easy.

If you want screaming, vulgar teens, this is for you.

    rating02 Jul 2024

Had to spend the night here due to American Airlines complete failure. Everyone here is someone stranded due to this or a screaming, poorly behaving, vulgarity yelling teen or a very loud preteen. Front desk says they have chaperones but that they do nothing. Front desk won’t either. Steer clear.

    Inexpensive hotel

    rating18 Jun 2024

The pros were hot water with a wonderful shower head and good air conditioning. The cons were no phone in the room, well-worn towels, a dispenser in the shower which did not want to dispense soap, noise from the traffic as well as other “guests”, and inexpensive decor. The hotel was overrun with high school/college-aged people who had no supervision to keep them from running up and down the hallway during the night. Remember no phone in the room so those who wanted to sleep could complain.
