    Invest in a proper boiler

    rating11 Feb 2020

Just had our second visit here. We stayed in June last year and thought it was okay hence the return trip. The good bits this time, it’s cheap so I guess you get what you pay for, the view is great and it’s walking distance to the shops, bars and restaurants all be it what seems a fairly endless hill on the way back up!We left this time 7 nights into our 8 night stay. The first problem was the hot water, or complete lack of any! Cold showers are not particularly fun and after 7 days we had had enough of them. In June we had mentioned the water wasn’t very hot and were told it was because the water was heated by the solar planners and we had quite a few cloudy days, this time most days there wasn’t a cloud in the sky yet the water was even colder. The swimming pool was like an ice bath so also unusable. We also had an apartment on the first floor which meant road noise all day and night and noise from the kitchen of the restaurant next door also all day and night (last time we were on the 5th floor so didn’t get any of that). The cleaner did come only the once and asked if we needed a clean but was almost out the door before finishing the question. The man who runs it was in reception everyday but only for a couple of hours in the morning. We also had to explain to another couple how the keys worked (one to get in the door, one for apartment, one for pool, etc...) as when they turned up they’d had the keys thrown at them by the person who let them in and didn’t explain them very well. It’s a shame as the apartments could be lovely but I wouldn’t go back with them as they are!

Budget Constrained, Very Basic and an Abandoned Building Next Door

    rating01 Jan 2018

We visit Los Gigantes several times a year. We have family there and as these apartments are close to them we thought we try them rather than use our normal place down in the village. This was a mistake. One that we will not repeatWe arrived just after lunch to find that that the apartments do not have a full time, conventional reception. There is a buzzer on the wall, ring this and it calls the mobile of whoever is on duty. This person then has to drive from wherever is to let you in. So, we were left on the pavement for half an hour till he arrived. The apartment was clean but very basic. All the furniture, fittings, crockery etc was from IKEA. The bathroom was fitted from the early 1980s and needs an urgent update. The WC barely flushed and we had to use jugs of water to operate it throughout our stay. At one stage it failed altogether and the management said the problem was poor water pressure. A major problem is hot water; Most of the time there isn't any. The brochure in the apartment explained that this came from solar panels and needed quite a complex set of actions to operate it. We followed these instructions to the letter but most of the time it stayed cold. When it did come through hot it took around 20 minutes plus so even a quick shower need pre planning. The marketing material for the apartments says TV is available, true, but whilst it had numerous channels the only one in English was the BBC News Channel. It quickly became apparent that this whole operation was operated as cheaply as possible. No full time reception, aged, unreliable plumbing, a poor hot water system. Other things I haven't yet mentioned..........The maid only cleans once in a weeks stay. So you only get clean towels once. The rooftop pool is unheated, fine in July but freezing and unusable in December. The building is next to an enormous, unfinished building site. All in all this was like a mixture of Fawlty Towers and something run by Rigsby from Rising Damp, though you need to be of certain age to remember the latter. Will we stay again? Absolutely not! Will we recommend it to others? Certainly not. .

The stay here was all we could hope because we wanted a trip to feel like home. The view from the balcony was magnificent, every morning and evening we could watch the sunrise/sunset at the atlantic. Rooms were clean and we have found everything we needed...including a supermarket (lidl) nearby!!!

Beautiful view a stone's throw from the beach

    rating05 Apr 2017

The flat is great, overall clean and well kept, not to mention very well located, one of the best views I've seen on a beach holiday. It's true that there is an abandoned construction next to it but I can honestly say it doesn't really get in the way of the view at all. There's a swimming pool on the rooftop as well for those days you just can't be bothered to go to the sea. There's also a very nice Italian restaurant next to the building (with some limited vegetarian/vegan options).
