Great stay with fabulous staff and excellent food

    rating24 Apr 2026

Amazing stay. Food in restaurant was fabulous. Staff were friendly and attentive. They even surprised the birthday boy with singing and a dessert. We did half board with royal level and we found this to work really well for us - plenty of food choice at breakfast and dinner. A great relaxing holiday.

A thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing week!

    rating20 Apr 2026

I booked the 'Barcelo Tenerife Royal Level' for 6 nights, knowing and liking the area of San Blas/Los Abrigos but never having stayed at this hotel before. The reviews of the Royal Level tempted me and whereas it wasn't cheap, it wasn't over the top either for what we received. Firstly, a word about travel. We were fortunate and got through arrivals and subsequently departures without any huge queues so were fortunate, but I booked 'Fast Track' security for our return flight after all the horror stories which was a total waste of time. I couldn't find a ;Fast Track; entrance and we were told to just join the normal lines so I wouldn't waste your money booking Fast Track. Taxis to and from the airport were efficient and readily available and cost between 15 and 20 Euros each way for the 10 minutes' drive. After a few pre-visit frustrations which were, in fairness, very well dealt with, we arrived at the hotel for a smooth check-in. Our Sea View Deluxe Suite Royal Level (All Inclusive) was very spacious at 66 sq metres and had everything we required. It was situated near Reception which as it happened, was a good choice as we used the B Lounge sat on the terrace but it was quite a walk to the Royal Level facilities but there is the choice of steps or ramp so easy accessible. The room contained an initially stocked fridge but we didn't really bother with the complimentary drinks; a good sized safe; two bathrooms; a separate living room and a good range of toiletries and large towels. Pool Towels were easily available at the Royal Level Pool. The bed was comfortable and the two balconies as part of the suite had comfortable chairs on one and loungers on the other and had the benefit of all day sun with lovely views over the complex out to the sea. We couldn't have been happier with the room. Now to the food. We didn't visit the normal buffet and we didn't go to breakfast so can't comment on those aspects of the food. For us, lunches at Breeze Bar provided the best food we experienced at the hotel. On the last day, because I had sampled so many delicious dishes, I couldn't decide what to repeat. The only meal my wife found disappointing was the Caesar Salad and possibly the Chicken recipe but we both thoroughly enjoyed the 'Classic Salmorejo' (like a gazpacho); Guacamole; Garlic Shrimp (I preferred it to my wife); Poke Bowl (be aware it includes salmon tartare); Tagliatelle a la Carbonara; Breeze Burger (possibly the best burger I have eaten); Glazed Salmon and the Cherne (a local fish) served with Canarian potatoes. We ate every night at the Royal Level restaurant, mostly sat outside as the weather was warm if a little windy, and whereas my wife enjoyed the more limited buffet than me, there was plenty to choose from. I opted most nights for the A La Carte main course that consisted of two fish options usually served with sautéed vegetables, two meat choices usually served with mashed potatoes and a Vegetarian option. Mostly it was good not excellent nor memorable. The cheese selection which we usually finished with was excellent, accompanied by honey, dried and fresh fruit, nuts, crackers and rolls etc. You wouldn't go hungry even if the food wasn't as good as I expected from reading some reviews. If staying over a certain number of nights, you are given a token to have a complimentary meal at either 'Arrozante' or 'La Dolce Vita'. We chose 'Arrozante' and it was the most disappointing meal of the week. You are given a very limited special menu and the food looks to be for sharing, We ordered two starters to share. One was a Shrimp and seaweed variation that came as two prawns and a lump of strangely mashed potato which was not good and the other a Trilogy of Ecological Tomatoes which consisted of a mound of tomatoes with some red onion and canned tuna - not good either! We left most of these. We thought we should try Paella on a Spanish Island so opted for the 'Senyoret'. It came looking traditional enough but I wouldn't recommend nor repeat it. We both agreed that we would have preferred using the Royal Buffet again. The best aspect of 'Arrozante' was the location of the tables which enabled you to sit fairly sheltered and looking over the outside of the restaurant which was very attractive with the gas flame heaters burning away - probably not too 'Ecological' though. Service throughout the hotel ranged from excellent to not so good, in fact on the Sunday night at the Royal Level Buffet I had to go and ask for some wine and nobody came to offer an 'A La Carte' main course so I just skipped it and had some extra cheese! Now to the drinks. There is no difference on the wine and Cava front from the standard All Inclusion as they only have one House rose, one House White and one House red. We were fortunate in that the rose was quite delicate and of a Southern French lightness so we were very happy. We didn't try the white or red. The Cava is House cava and after trying it at the start we didn't bother again. My wife tried a range of cocktails and was very pleased with all of her choices and the Negroni was strong and well made. All in all, despite a few flaws, we had an excellent week with plenty of wine and food of varying quality, a lovely spacious room and an upgraded feel because we paid for Royal Level. I would not have wanted to have stayed at the standard hotel and been limited to the buffet and the usual swimming pools. We fell into a lazy and regular routine of passing on breakfast, leaving the room at noon for a few drinks in B Longe, decanting to the Royal Level Pool for a few hours of more drinks in the sun, exercising by walking up to Breeze Bar for excellent lunches, heading back to the room before venturing out again to B Lounge or the Royal Level restaurant for drinks and dinner. What's there not to like? Would we repeat it, possibly but with so many options I think I would prefer to put this down as a happy and enjoyable memory.
