    Appalling hotel

    rating21 Apr 2026

Absolutely appalling. We stayed here for 5 nights and I have never been more ready to leave a hotel in my life. We had to move rooms on the second day of our holiday as there was an ant infestation in the room, along with cockroaches. There was also a ridiculously loud noise in the room sounded like some sort of generator which made the whole room shake. The fan in the room barely worked and was unbearable to have on as it was so noisy (buzzing constantly). We then moved rooms and the 2nd room wasn’t much better. The first time we opened the door the door handle fell off and we had to wait an hour while maintenance fixed it!!There were also countless cockroaches in the room and many other bugs. When we got told we could move rooms as jet2 were great and contacted the hotel: we got told to go down to reception after 8am, we went down at half 8 and got told to come back at half 10 THEN at half 10 they told us to come back at 5 as the manager was out!!!!!!! The manager was rude making a comment such as “ it’s a hot country we do get bugs” …I am very well travelled and I have been to Tenerife 4 times and my partner has been 3 times and we have never experienced anything like this. It was absolutely disgusting. Good job we brought bug spray but I am still covered in bites!!!In addition, the hotel offered us nothing but a room change which I think is very disappointing regarding the distress it caused us. We were there celebrating our anniversary which I had made the hotel aware of prior to the stay, I didn’t expect anything from this email but I certainly did not expect 2 appalling rooms. And as everyone else has mentioned the sunbed wars were ridiculous ( not like we wanted to stay around this hotel!) The rooms are also very very dated, the pictures online have definitely been edited to make them look nicer and clean!I am a travel agent myself and I will never be recommending this hotel to any of my customers!!!! We have evidence of everything just a shame we can’t add videos on here!!!

Great family stay – would happily return!

    rating20 Apr 2026

We stayed at HG Tenerife Sur for two weeks as a family group, using two separate rooms in the high-rise block (one twin studio room and a room for two adults and a child). Both rooms were spacious, comfortable, and had everything we needed. The kitchens were well equipped, there was plenty of room to sit and relax, and the balconies were a good size. The rooms are a little dated, but very clean, the beds were really comfortable, and the shower was excellent with great water pressure and always hot water. The air conditioning fans also worked brilliantly and kept the rooms cool enough for us. The pool area was one of the best things about the hotel. The pool was large, heated and always enjoyable. Although people mention 'sunbed wars', we personally didn’t find it a major issue. We usually went later in the morning after breakfast (The Old English Tearoom - across the road was great value and excellent service) or in the afternoon after a walk, and always managed to a sunbed. Lots of balconies overlook the pool and get some sun and there are seating areas. So unless you plan to spend every day at the pool on a lounger, please don't allow this to put you off. We had lunch in the restaurant once and found the food ok. There is also a pool snack bar, which has reasonable prices although we didnt get chance to try it. There is a shop on site, plus several supermarkets just outside the hotel as well as a taxi rank. I found the location to be excellent, with lots of restaurants and shops nearby, and an easy walk to the beach at Los Cristianos Beach. We actually preferred many of the local restaurants near the hotel. Special mentions to Restaurante Charlys (Near Sol Tenerife Hotel) for great food, friendly staff, and evening entertainment, and The Fox which was also very good BBQ food.We also visited Jungle Park and Aqualand Costa Adeje during our stay, both of which were excellent days out. Quiet, no queues and no stress - we took lunch (fresh sandwiches from across the road) as we had already read that food/drinks were expensive. There is also a free bus. Our children are 9 and 13 and both loved it. Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and we all agreed we would definitely stay here again.

Good place to stay if you dont require sun loungers

    rating16 Apr 2026

We stayed at this Apartment Hotel in April26 for 2 weeks, like most places there are pros and cons. The positive is that the apartments are clean although dated, we had a pool view room which is recommended as the alternative could overlook the road at the front which is noisy. The gardens and pool area are clean. Rooms in the main have a fan rather than air con. The negative and this is a huge one is the sun lounger issue. I have worked in the travel industry for 45 years on both retail and business and stayed in hundreds of hotels and this issue is the worst I have seen. We had a pool view room that overlooked the main areas where the sunlounges are stacked and sat there each morning and watched this drama unfold with a mixture of shock and amusement. There are approx 190 apartments which cater for couples as well as families, so when at full occupancy you will have over 400 people and there are approx 130 sun loungers. In the morning, these loungers are stacked in eight bundles and locked overnight. They are opened at 09.30 however these were delayed on some days till after 10.00. People start to appear at 08.15 and leave towels on the ground where the sun lounger will be located. They also stand next to the stacks and either put towels on the top or keep hands on them. When they are unlocked there are chaotic scenes reminiscent of a Benny Hill sketch as people try to move up the five loungers at a time around the pool area, this causes arguments especially for people taking multiple lounges. After 5 minutes they are all gone. Inexplicably the hotel reserves up to 30 loungers in a separate stack with a sign saying these will be unlocked at 11 and this then initiates another queue at 09.30. The lifeguard oversees these remaining loungers and seems to relish the power and looks on from his chair until 11 dismissing any arguments as to why they do this. This is survival of the fittest and anyone elderly or disabled will have very little hope of moving these, you would also have to question the health and safety issue. I have seen previous comments that hotel management need to invest in more beds however given that they are used in the pool area only and not the gardens there would be no room for more. Once the loungers were claimed there were a lot with towels left unattended for hours afterwards. If you are there for 2 weeks and queuing up every morning, I calculate that you are wasting two daylight days waiting to get a sunbed, that not my idea of a holiday. As a message to the management here, it would make sense to not stack them up at night and leave them in safe areas around the pool and operate removing towels if unused for over an hour.

Only go if you don’t care about a sun lounger

    rating08 Apr 2026

People are actually out from 730 in the morning until 10am queuing around beds which are stacked and locked. People put towels out in the floor to protect spots ready for the beds. At 10 there are no beds left. People arguing over beds and the hotel does nothing to stop this.

    Run a mile

    rating30 Mar 2026

I am here now at this place is awful. The rooms are so dated and unkept they look dirty. The bathrooms in the block 200s stink of sewerage. We had to change rooms the first day because we had an awful room with holes in the ceilings literally patched up like a tiddler did it, front door wouldnt lock and the beds well. Dont even get me started. The new rooms isnt much better but at least its clean!! Stinks of sewers even more than the first and is on top of the bar so super loud. Asked house keeping to make the sofa bed up for us as we were juggling all our stuff and the children to the new room and we were refused help and given two pillows and a sheet to do ourselves. Hotel is full of chavs slamming doors drinking stella chanting on their balcony. The poor guy at reception seems lovely and is helpful but you are very much left to it here and boone at the hotel seems to understand customer service. Its quite frankly a nightmare and comparable to Benidorm. Absolute dump!
