This place is a little gem, for the price it’s amazing, lovely large room with en-suite shower, small balcony, rooms cleaned every day, a credit to the owners and staff. Only 800m for the sea & restaurant, 2 local supermarkets

Central location, clean, friendly staff.Small balcony, private bathroom, comfy beds, really all you need for a budget holiday. The staff were very helpful, let us have a late check out, and helped us find buses to get to Siam Park.

After reading other people's reviews I was surprised, how clean and tidy the hotel was.Regarding people saying there were no receptionist around, the only time I never seen any one was 5am. Visit again

    rating28 Dec 2017

Filthy dirty, no hot water for 4 days, Bathroom poorly cleaned, floor and furniture never cleaned Spit on taps from last customers , wiif unusable, holes in sheets and towels, blood &mould on walls, antique television with poor digital service (only Spanish channels),Bare mains socket in bathroom.ADVERTISED radio, breakfast and room service, don’t exist Fridge left dirty and old ice bag from someone else. Plaster falling off walls.I WOULDNT PUT MY DOG IN HERE !!! And to top things off the public bathroom beside the lift was covered in faeces When I told the staff they didn’t bother calling housekeeper to give immediate attention

    Great location on a budget.

Overall, Hotel Carel was absolutely fine. Especially just as basic accommodation, but one of two minor tweaks would have got it more stars. The hotel is up a slight hill, on a main(ish) road in the Town Centre only a block back from the beach front about 5 minutes walk to the beach. There is a small crescent beach in the centre with sunbeds at €3.50 per day, bit of black sand, but gets crowded. There are 3 other slightly smaller crescent beaches within a few minutes walk. These are better. Less crowded but still have sunbeds. Beaches quite small when tide is in but large when out.The town has plenty of choices of restaurant but there is little to do other than wander about the small town or watch the numerous surfers, especially on an evening. I went with my 17 year old daughter and it was fine but I wouldn't recommend it for families. 3 small supermarkets in the centre, with Dialprix making very nice fresh sandwiches to order. The town seems to be a Spanish holiday destination, with lots bringing their dogs. Very few Brits, a few Germans, which we loved! No Brit bars, karaoke etc and no shops selling overpriced junk! Very much a laid back surfer town. Very clean too despite all the dogs.TOP TIP - El Medano is 5 minutes drive from the airport so don't pay for transfers like I did , just get a taxi from the airport, much quicker and cheaper!Hotel Carel was nice, clean and tidy. The chap on reception was helpful and friendly enough. Theres an elevator and stairs from the small lobby area. The rooms all had balconies with table and chairs. En suite bathroom with a good shower. About 15 channels on free TV but all in Spanish. Not a problem for us just bear it in mind. Room cleaned every day and towels changed. Cleaner nice and friendly. Safe in room, €20 deposit. 2 x single beds with memory foam mattresses. No aircon. No facilities in my room (106) such as hairdryer, iron, kettle, fridge etc so not much you can do in way of self catering. We bought plastic bowls and cutlery for cereal and put the milk in the bathroom sink filled with cold water. If it had had tea making facilities I would have given it 5 stars! To be fair though I couldn't fault the hotel.Free wi-fi in rooms which was a winner with my daughter!Nice hotel, nice town, great for cafe culture and beach sunbathing and surfing but not a great deal else to do. If you're after Brit bars and all that then head west.
