    This wasn’t just poor service, it was a failure in:payment handlingcommunicationcustomer careOn Saturday I cycled up to Teide from the south coast and stopped at Paradores Las Cañadas del Teide for a short break. I ordered a coffee, cake, and a Mars bar, but what followed was one of the most stressful and disappointing experiences I’ve ever had.The waiter initially charged my card €9 and gave me a receipt. He then claimed the terminal didn’t work and charged my card again using a different machine, insisting that the payment hadn’t gone through. I later confirmed that both payments were processed. When I pointed this out, his attitude became rude and dismissive—he even slammed the tray down and demanded cash only.Communication was extremely difficult. I tried speaking both English and Italian, but their English was very limited, and I don’t speak Spanish. They also refused to provide WiFi, and the supposed free network for visitors didn’t work, leaving me unable to check my bank account until I asked strangers nearby to share their hotspot.After confirming I had been charged twice, I raised the issue with the manager/clerk, Ines. Instead of resolving the situation, I was given yet another invoice and had to pay a third time. Exhausted from cycling and stuck in a remote location with 50 km still ahead of me, I had no choice but to pay just to get some energy to continue.As of writing this review, I still have not received any refund, meaning I have been overcharged by €18. Beyond the financial issue, the stress and poor treatment made this an incredibly negative experience.I strongly advise others not to stop here. The customer service is unacceptable, and the overall experience was far worse than I could have imagined.     Astounding location - can’t be missed

    Location: a real Wow. Nothing like it in any part of Europe/ islands. Good practical rooms and comfortable beds if on the hard side. Excellent restaurant: go for the half board option. My wife and I thought the steak, poultry and rabbit options were better than the fish dishes. Local wines very drinkable. But it’s all about the location: it is used as a base for Olympic/ Tour de France training. Enjoy a sunset drink among the Roques ! Top breakfast service. Well worth the splurge !     Great location, otherwise far below normal Parador standards

    This Parador is in an amazing location. Perhaps as a result of having no direct competition, it is not operating at normal Parador standards, and our experience was disappointing and represented very poor value for money. Comfort, atmosphere, service and food were all below expectations. Maybe because we coincided with a visit by a pro cycling team, the hotel was focused on / overwhelmed by their needs, but overall this felt more like being in a ski lodge package tour than a luxury hotel.     Paying for deluxe room with panoramic view of both the mountain and the roques was worth the extra. Room was super comfortable - balcony would have served us well in warmer times.In my experience the food in paradors is never very good - so I was pleasantly surprised by the good dinner (obviously nowhere else to go!) but breakfast was a low point even by parador standards. We chose a 9am breakfast slot and lots of basic items missing - coffee milk butter prepared fruit. Had to work hard and wait patiently for eventual restock. Maybe choose earlier slot next time? But to reiterate, location fabulous.
