Good value budget hotel in a quiet residential neighbourhood

I have a regular teaching commitment at Barcelona School of Management, so for a change I decided to take the ferry from Portsmouth to Santander and ride down to Barcelona on my motorcycle. The Brittany Ferries ship docked in Santander at 08:00 and I had to join a dinner at 20:00 the following day, so I decided to break up the seven hour ride into two parts and stay in Utebo the first night. The Hotel Europa was recommended on a biker site as being motorcycle friendly with secure parking. It was very affordable at €68/night without breakfast (+€11.90 to add breakfast). It is on a quiet residential street and has an underground car park. It is €11 to use the car park, but it is super secure and you can unload your bike and take your gear straight to your room by elevator from the underground car park. The staff are very friendly and multilingual.Because the hotel is located in a quiet residential district, there is not much around it in terms of restaurants and bars. I found one bar a couple of hundred metres away, which serves the largest gin and tonics on the planet, and there is a monster supermarket opposite the bar if you have forgotten anything. I ate at the hotel for dinner. The range of choices was limited, but dinner was excellent and very good value (about €20 with a glass of wine). The main drag through Utebo is currently (March 2026) undergoing a major makeover, so it is a confusing jumble of cones and makeshift roundabouts. This meant that my satnav got pretty confused as nI was going into the city, but it found the hotel fairly quickly once I pulled off the main through road.I would definitely recommend this hotel as a stopover if you are driving south from Santander to the coast.

Convenient parking below, nicely located near the centre of town.

Friendly reception and convenient parking below the hotel. Very comfortable rooms but no water heater was provided. The location of the hotel was favourable, next to a large supermarket and only a short walk to bars and restaurants. A good hotel to spend the night while in transit.

Very warm welcome, excellent service, very comfortable room and a plentiful breakfast. Alberto in reception couldn’t do enough for us. He helped with disabled parking, booked a restaurant, sorted a room issue out immediately, and was charming- he is a real asset to the Hotel.

This hotel is a bit standard in its decor, but the rooms are nice and the bed is comfortable. The staff are very friendly and the price is good. Parking is available on the street if you can find a space, or you can pay to park in the hotel. Plenty of options for eating nearby.

Very disappointing

Never ever a 4 * hotel. Very disappointing. Arrival at reception was like entry to a detention centre on a TV movie. Then it went downhill from there . The room was so dated but clean to be fair . Requested additional bed pillows that smelt musty. Bathroom was the only nice bit about the stay . Hotel located in a glum part of the outlying suburb of Zaragoza. Found a friendly bar at Roberto’s. No restaurant in the hotel and nowhere locally that was open. But again to note this is never ever a 4 star hotel . More realistically 2 star . So disappointing.
