This hotel is okay but in my opinion it is definitely not 5-star. While the entrance and lobby look the part, little else does. I actually began to make a list of shortcomings not long after arriving.The number one thing that is supposed to distinguish a 5-star hotel is the service—this above all else is expected to be exceptional, and I’ve heard it described as ‘anticipating your needs before you even ask.’ In this respect the Palafox fails on nearly every count. The moment we checked in we encountered a gentleman behind the desk whose general air was anything but welcoming: no smile, just a cool efficiency and attitude that made it feel as though we were interrupting his day.We had mistakenly booked an extra night and we asked if there was any way of getting a refund. In a hotel of this calibre I would have expected the staff to make every effort to look into this and let us know. Instead we were handed a card with the hotel’s email address and told to send a message there, with no offer of help beyond that. At the very least a sympathetic ‘I’m sorry this happened’ would have been nice, but there was nothing.As for our room, there were some good things: it was spacious, being a junior suite with a separate bedroom that was quiet and had a large, comfortable bed. But as others have said, it felt worn and dated, and there were other things that just weren’t right. Here are the things that stood out to me:- The WiFi was terrible, especially in the morning. It was slow, would drop out completely, and was nowhere near a modern standard.- There are no dedicated USB sockets. A minor quibble, but again, I expected more.- There was no kettle! There was an obvious space where one should have been, along with cups, coffee, and other bits, but they were all missing. When we mentioned this, a member of staff brought up a tray promptly, which was a nice touch. But we then noticed all the coffee packets were decaf, and there was no milk.- We left the AC on continuously due to the weather (39°C), and by the evening it had begun to drip, leaving a wet spot on the carpet in the entry, exactly where you're most likely to step on it in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom. - There was no way of leaving the AC on without leaving one of our key cards in the wall slot. Our 4-star hotel in Madrid had a dedicated card already in place, which should have been the case here.The other minor annoyance was the lift buttons, which looked chic but were worn and practically unreadable.Having just come from a 4-star hotel in Madrid the deficiencies here were all the more glaring. Other than the lobby I would honestly have put this as a 3-star hotel at best. The location was great, but not much else.

This hotel is fine but in my opinion it is not 5 star. In Europe stars are awarded on amenities and services not necessarily quality. Thus any way you cut it it is not five star. Four star,maybe; 3 star certainly. We had a deluxe non renovated room. It was fine although the carpet was worn. The room is large with a desk and chair,a wingback type chair and a loveseat. I would park at the underground indigo parking lot less than 30 feet from the lobby door at 21e per day. The bed is great and the room is quiet.

Excellent service. Kind and genuine. Amazing service in the restaurant by all staff. Especially Renan. He's just a professional. Good food. Makes one feel at home.

Excellent 5 star hotel. Absolutely immaculate and friendly . Room was superb with a lovely sofa to sit on. Cozy bar and lounge in reception. Excellent price for wines . It's in a great location for shopping and restaurants. Staff very welcoming .

Tired 5*hotel that needs modernisation

We stayed for one night having a high expectation due to the hotel having 5 stars. We walked into the reception and were impressed with the surrounds and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately the 5 star experience ended there! Upon entering the room we were overwhelmed by the aged decor, threadbare carpet and general poor condition of the room. This was apparently an upgrade to the room we had actually paid for! To add insult to injury, there was no complimentary water as most quality hotels generally offer, the only option was to pay for the water in the mini bar! We left the hotel having had great customer service and really couldn’t fault the staff, just a shame no money has been spent on modernising the rooms which ultimately is the main part of the customer experience.
