Historical downturn of a great institution.

Apparently this hotel chain has go into administration and it shows, no staff, no housekeeping, no drink or food available, breakfast consisted of a coffee from a flask.Maybe this once great sailing ship ruled the waves, but now looks fallon, uncared for and in great need to re establish its past history!!!

Great City But Disappointing Hotel

To begin on a positive note we found the room very comfortable and slept extremely well and the breakfast was good. The check in process was also smooth and this is a good location to explore the city from.The issues we experienced however sadly outweighed the good and I have listed these below.1. Firstly, in the room we had a lamp where the inner cores of the cable were exposed where they entered the plug. I am unsure of electrical standards in Sweden but in the UK this is considered dangerous and would not pass a safety check. 2. The two fluorescent bulbs on either side of the bathroom mirror were both damaged but the left hand one didn’t work and had a very large crack. 3. My last issue relates to the complete lack of a bar and restaurant for food and drinks which we expected to be able to use in the evening. Our reason for this was that on the Booking.com website which we used to book the room it clearly states that there is both a bar and a restaurant in the list of facilities and clearly shows images of this in the photos, as an addition to this again indicated in the photos we expected to be able to use the upper deck to sit outside if we wanted but this was closed off. The signage outside of the hotel also indicated the availability of a restaurant.We had a fantastic day in the city and but would certainly not recommend the hotel and on any future trips to Gothenburg we would not choose to stay here.

The ghost ship

This place is an absolute disgrace. Rooms awful. Breakfast a joke. Bar wasn't even open during our stay. We arrived at 2.30 in the morning on Sunday 27th. No one there, took us 15 minutes getting a reply on the intercom. When we eventually got in, you have to speak to someone on a phone. They told us we didn't have a booking until 3.00 pm on the 27th. We had the confirmation in front of us with our check in date of the 26th. They put the phone down in us. Said the ship was full, even though it was near enough completely empty.We rang loveholidays who tried to ring the hotel and said they had been told it was full. It wasn't.So there was nothing they could do either.We had to find another hotel for the night and had to walk 1 km at 3.15 in the morning to find it.£250 for 5 hoursThis hotel is horrendous DO NOT STAY THERE

Going down with the ship

You know when you have the most amazing resource, one with historical interest, close to the city centre and, compared to other hotels… really unusual. Well… welcome to the Barken Viking.On the other hand, if you don’t stock the communal bathrooms with toilet paper or hand soap, serve up a meagre breakfast, have no employees you can raise your concerns with then, really, you’re not getting the best out of your resource. Similarly, when guests aren’t allowed onto the upper deck you’re probably going to annoy them a lot. So much so, in fact, that if you called it a hostel you’d probably be describing it better.I can see that millions of Krone have been spent but it looks and feels like you’re running out of money.

Superb value, great location, quirky and fun

Superb value! Quirky ship hotel, very clean and clever use of cabins. Ensuite shower excellent, great pressure and plenty of hot water. view over docks, great location (easy scooter ride to the park). Very reasonable pricing, breakfast excellent with a vast choice of food. When we went, there was no evening meal option, but plenty of space downstairs to have takeaway delivered.
