    Steinenschanze Stadhotel is a very charming place very near the Main Train station of Basel in Switzerland. The first stop after taking the bus no. 50 from the Train station.It is very near the old part of Basel. A great asset of this hotel is the beautiful garden, with the breakfast room on the same level. The rooms overlooking the garden are very well designed, smart and comfortable with hooks to hang coats, a record player with a few good records and a couple of books. Unfortunately no English books.The breakfast was fine, with a variety of food, tea or coffee served at our table.The staff most helpful and pleasant,We will definitely come back.

    Practically Perfect in Every Way

    This hotel in downtown Basel was “ practically perfect in every way.” The staff was welcoming and helpful. The location is great. A short walk and a climb down numerous steps gets you right into the Marketplatz- the old town. The trams run continuously. They are clean, smooth, quiet and safe. And they are free for hotel guests . Breakfast is a delightful buffet with a charming host. The rooms are immaculately clean and have all necessities and extras like remote controlled blackout shades. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel. But my favorite feature, beside the helpful staff, was the private garden courtyard. It had beautiful trees and plants, a water feature and ample tables and chairs. After a day of sightseeing it was a wonderful place to relax.     Solid choice in Basel. The location is fantastic. It’s walkable to most things and within easy reach of transportation. The staff is friendly and helpful. The rooms on the street side are noisy. Additionally, we could hear our upstairs neighbors coughing all night and moving things around in their room. Earplugs or a white noise machine/app can help. I’d recommend opting for something on the garden side if possible. The beds and pillows are okay. The bed is too firm for me, but that might not be a problem for others. The room was clean and the record player was a fun touch! The breakfast had a nice variety. It was refreshing to see the amount of vegetables they offered! There is no mini bar or in room mineral water, but they have water dispensers on each floor and provide a carafe.
