  I didn't realize when I booked this that it was a converted jail and it was a fun surprise. If you are looking for 4 or 5 stars, this isn't it. But if you are looking for clean accommodations without spending a fortune, this is a great option. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and the employees were incredibly nice and helpful. The rooms are small, after all they are converted jail cells, but had everything we needed. The hotel is located within walking distance of the train station at the edge of old town. For reference, we are two high school friends in our 60's who were looking for the experience and value over luxury. This hotel had just the right atmosphere for that. The halls can be a little noisy during the day/early evening (it is a jail) but quiet hours start at 10 and we had no problems. I would absolutely stay here again.

  What a delightful stay at Hotel Barabas Luzern! From the moment I arrived the staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to help — they made everything easy and welcoming. The hotel is spotless; cleanliness was clearly a priority throughout the property.The location couldn’t be better — perfectly placed for exploring Lucerne’s sights, restaurants, and charming streets. My room was a real highlight: wonderfully spacious, with original doors and those striking window bars that give the space a unique, historic character. It truly felt like stepping back in time while enjoying modern comfort.Highly recommend for anyone looking for a central, clean hotel with character and truly hospitable staff.   Funky and No Frills, Spotlessly Clean, Small rooms but Perfectly Formed

  The best choice I made in Luzern was staying here at Barabas. The location is perfect, the rooms are spotlessly clean and tidy, and it's warm, dry, and excellently run. Not to mention it's funky, quirky atmosphere as a former prison. If you're in Luzern to be out and about you really couldn't do better. It's a perfect example of lo-fi, no frills, funky accommodation that I'd recommend for solo travellers. If there are two of you, the rooms are REALLY small (they're cells, after all) so be warned. It is quiet too. the Isakaya Japanese restaurant in the building is very good. It's Japanese tapas, basically, but the quality is good. Order the eel, it's excellent.The only thing I would say is that the Wi-Fi is appalling. I change rooms and it still was so bad my phone couldn't even pick it up. BUT one step outside the room and it was fine. Be warned. Not great.

  A novel idea; hotel in converted prison. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Stayed in the former integration room converted into a double room. Other rooms in former cells.Situated in old town and so close to restaurants.

  This is a basic hotel, and was a delight to stay at. The staff is wonderful, the rooms clean, the location great (ten minutes from the piers, Old Town, the train station), the breakfast sufficient. It can be a little noisy if you are street side, and the sheets are rough and pillows thin, but that makes sense with the price.
