  Very disappointing experience. The hotel had clearly done fresh painting in the room 36 shortly before our stay, and the smell of paint/fumes was extremely strong. My son is allergic and sensitive to chemical smells, and during the night he developed breathing issues triggered by the fumes. We barely slept and spent the night worrying about his condition.Honestly, the room was not in a safe condition for guests to stay in and should never have been assigned until it was fully ventilated and odor-free.What made the experience even worse was the hotel’s response the next morning. I informed the staff about what happened, but there was no apology, no concern shown, and no effort to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation.A little empathy and responsibility would have gone a long way.

  A very pleasant experience.

  Just returned from spending 6 mights at the Alpina.Following a smooth check in by Kyllian at the foyer,we went up to our room on the fifth floor,room 52.Upon opening the door,my partner's first words were "Oh no,what are we doing here?" However,by the end of our stay,she didn't want to leave! Okay,the balcony was very small,just big enough for us both to sit outside and relax with a drink and the view isn't outstanding,looking directly into offices opposite and down onto a reasonably busy street. The room itself could possibly do with a little bit of a repaint to make it feel a little fresher,but that is just a personal preference!The room was spotlessly clean throughout,the furniture and cupboard space were very good and the bed itself was comfortable and probably the biggest bed I've ever slept in!The bathroom was spotlessly clean and although the shower was a little on the small side,it worked out fine for us. The breakfast at the Hotel Monopol just a few doors along the street was first class with a good selection of hot and cold food.Eat as much as you want here! The hotel's location was brilliant,being less than 5 mins.walk from the bus and railway stations and the ferry boat terminals.You will find yourselves walking around the city to view the main sites,all being within walking distance of the hotel. All the staff here were excellent.Friendly and knowlegeable,they helped to ensure we had a fabulous stay in this romantic and beautiful city.We would definitely return here and have no hesitation in recommending it to anybody looking for a good,comfortable place to stay and enjoy this wonderful city, Lars Güggi, General Manager at Hotel Alpina Luzern, responded to this review Dear Paul B,It's wonderful to hear about your enjoyable stay at Hotel Alpina Luzern.   Alpina Hotel is located two minutes from the station.I booked a "Superior Double Room".The spacious room was very underwhelming, tired, and in need of maintenance. At 210CHF or $400AUD per night, I was  disappointed.  There was no air-conditioning [just a vertical stand  blow fan] or a minibar fridge to store personal items - milk, drinks, etc. Reception advised that some superior rooms do have air-conditioning. However, this was not clearly explained. A random lucky dip, it seems. Linen was refreshed daily. A clothes iron is available upon request.   Absolutely worst hotel and customer service. Our room was so hot due to lack of air conditioning that my wife’s medicine melted. It was 60 outside and 100 in our room. After no sleep our first night I asked for front desk to do something and the maintenance man came up and agreed it was so hot but nothing able to do but give us another worthless fan. I understand the age of the hotel and that most don’t have AC. This was beyond ridiculous. There is a bar right below our window so if you opened the window you got nothing but bugs and drunks screaming till late at night. The hotel manager offered us to go to their other hotel that had AC but would charge us another 200 usd. We chose this hotel due to easy walk to train station but would highly recommend the old town area.
