Come to lucern but don’t stay here

    rating16 May 2026

Very overpriced for a run down hotel. Stains on the floor. Great front counter staff and close to train station and attractions. Do your self a favour and stay somewhere else.Lucern is amazing! Lars Güggi, General Manager at Hotel Monopol Luzern, responded to this review Dear Ty,Thank you for sharing your impressions. I am sorry that aspects of the room condition and value did not meet your expectations, and I appreciate your kind note about our front desk team and convenient location. We understand that our pricing can sometimes feel high; our daily rates follow local market demand, and for the most favorable terms we suggest booking directly on our website or with the hotel. We also recognize your concerns about dated elements and are working on renovations to refresh our facilities and elevate comfort across the guest experience. We value your feedback and hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you again for a more comfortable and balanced stay.yours faithfullyHotel Monopol

This hotel is the perfect location

    rating21 Dec 2025

This hotel is the perfect location for anyone traveling to Lucerne by train. Located across the street from the train station you can get access via the underground system or simply by walking across the street. We were there in December and we we found the location had great proximity to two Christmas Markets, the old town, the historical locations like Tower Bridge and Spreuer Bridge, the ferry piers 1 through 6, the central bus station, dining and shopping. Location could not be any more convenient. The daily buffet was a 4 out 5 and the rooms were clean, a good size, and the beds were comfortable. The staff were very friendly, and helpful.Additionally there is a Starbucks in the lobby, a roof top bar with views. I highly recommend this to anyone travelling to Lucerne for a short visit or for discovering the area by foot, train, bus or ferry. Lars Güggi, General Manager at Hotel Monopol Luzern, responded to this review Dear FarAway13345530612,Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for sharing such thoughtful feedback. We are delighted that our central location proved so convenient for exploring Lucerne’s highlights, markets, and transport connections. It is wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the daily buffet, found the room comfortable and well-sized, and appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of our team. We are also pleased that the rooftop views and lobby amenities enhanced your visit.Your recommendation means a great deal to us. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back on your next trip to Lucerne.yours faithfullyHotel Monopol

    Not a 4 star

    rating15 Nov 2025

Thus hotel is far from a 4 star as advertised. I would say the most it’s a 2 1/2 star. It is extremely outdated and needs major updates and deep cleaning. The carpet is disgraceful. The furniture is probably from the 1970’s. The staff were not helpful at all. The only good thing about this hotel is the location. I would never recommend or stay here again. Lars Güggi, General Manager at Hotel Monopol Luzern, responded to this review Dear Amy C,Thank you for sharing your impressions of your recent stay. We are sorry to learn that your experience fell short of expectations and appreciate your candid perspective. Our hotel’s historic character is meaningful to many guests, though we recognize it may not resonate with everyone. We remain dedicated to preserving that charm while elevating comfort, and we are actively planning updates to furnishings and facilities to enhance the overall experience. We also understand concerns related to cleanliness, noise, and parking, and we are committed to consistently refining our environment so that it aligns with our service standards. Your comments help guide our efforts as we focus on comfort and convenience.Regarding value, we recognize pricing is an important consideration and recommend booking directly through our official website for the most favorable rates. We appreciate your feedback and hope we may have the opportunity to better reflect our standards in the future. We wish you well in your future travels and hope to welcome you back under improved circumstances.Sincerely yoursHotel Monopol

    Run run fast. Horrible management.

    rating07 Nov 2025

For a four star hotel, it was dingy rundown and very poorly maintained. Entering the shower, I fell when the grab bar fell out of the wall and injuring my knee. I asked to be compensated for one night and the assistant manager declined offering me breakfast instead. The breakfast looked disgusting and I declined. The assistant manager, then told me they do not have safety bars in their bathrooms. Instead, that was a toiletries/soap holder. I was never even allowed to speak with a general manager.Horrible, horrible horrible
