Wonderful hotel
21 Sept 2026
We had a great stay at Villa Sassa. We were upgraded to a suite and were delighted with the quality of the room and the wonderful view. All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We ate in the restaurant on our first evening. We'd been looking at places to eat and this restaurant seemed to have good reviews. We weren't disappointed. Everything about the evening was wonderful - the staff were friendly, the view was beautiful and the quality of the food was amazing. Every dish was interesting, beautifully presented and high quality. We have nothing but praise for this hotel.

Booked the penthouse suite with lake viewAlthough a large 2 bed flat with small kitchen and large dinging room, the room felt emptyLocation was fine, especially with a carLots of spacesThe electric canopies either were broken or didn't workThe balconies were very dirty The stair areas had paint peeling The indoor and outdoor pools were very good as was the breakfastThe spa was excellent and looks a recent additionThe Hotel could be excellent if upgradedWe wouldn't re visit unless it had the makeover first

Relaxing !
14 Jun 2026
A beautiful hotel with everything you need for a relaxing stay. I cannot fault it in any way. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. Staff were friendly and efficient. We were upgraded to a bigger room with a balcony overlooking the pool. So relaxing to just sit and admire the view. Thank you Villa Sassa for a very enjoyable stay.

The scenery is memorable; the hospitality is not.

The scenery is memorable; the hospitality is not. The view of Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains is absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, the service is the very definition of mediocrity. There was little sense of warmth, pride, or effort. The hotel promotes itself as a spa-focused destination, yet even the spa staff seemed largely uninterested in creating a welcoming or memorable experience. In addition, the hotel itself is in serious need of updating. It is dated and the finishes feel worn and cheap, the rooms, the spa and common spaces. This combination does not create a strong desire to make a return visit. The view can’t do all the work. There are many places to get a wonderful view in Lugano. Our stay was an illustration of how the hospitality industry seems to be drifting away from a profession centered on welcoming guests and travelers and sharing the beauty of cultures and vibes of history with others. Travelers work hard and save for months—sometimes years—to take trips (for many, once in a lifetime trips) and deserve to enjoy them. The staff we encountered in this villa appeared indifferent to this basic idea. What stayed with me most was not a single or few interactions, but the overall culture of indifference. Having traveled extensively in Switzerland over many years, I have always associated Swiss hospitality with professionalism, warmth, and genuine attention to guests. At Villa Sassa, I found the service indifferent and uninspired and mediocre.
