    Certainly not a "Leading Hotel"

    rating19 Mar 2026

This place could be a decent 4 star hotel, but certainly not 5 stars, and even less a "Leading Hotel of the World". It lacks proper management and attention to detail. We stayed to a week in January but will not come back.Royalp's location is excellent, right opposite the train station from where you are taken straight into the skiing area.Staff is friendly and tries to be helpful.Everything was clean and tidy. The food in the main restaurant was great. The pool is large.Sadly, there were quite a lot of small things that we did not like - each of those in itself is no big deal, but they added up to become unacceptable:Upon arrival we were greeted by a porter who told us that we could not park in a bay next to the entrance, not even while unloading our car. We did it anyway, and did not get into anybody's way while doing so.After we had put our stuff on the trolley (mostly by ourselves, with little help from said porter) we expected it to be delivered to our room, but after 30 minutes the trolley was still sitting by the entrance - when repeatedly asking for it to be delivered we were always told by the porter that he had to greet other guests who were arriving. A second porter was around, but was apparently busy doing other things. When we got to our room the window was ajar and could not be closed properly. How come Housekeeping had not seen and reported it? We had to go to reception to get it fixed (which was done shortly after). There are individual lockers for skiing equipment for each room, but they cannot be locked. Nothing was taken from ours, but it left us uncomfortable.Ski-in was not possible due to a lack of snow, so when coming back we had to take a slope into the village. Reception had told us there was a pickup service from there, so we called and were informed it would be 5 minutes for someone to get there. In the end it was 25 minutes and repeated calls to the hotel - the above-mentioned porter finally arrived and had apparently been busy picking up other guests from some other place. Which is fine, but had they told us right away we would have returned by public transport much quicker. Going back the driver first had to collect some deliveries and then lost his way, leading us on quite a detour. The breakfast restaurant was understaffed on some days and overstaffed on others. It was either just some interns or junior waiters who did not really know what to do (and therefore rather doing nothing, unless you asked them directly for something), or ist was 3 senior waiters who took their turns in asking us what we wanted to drink.Choices of cold cuts and fruits were a laugh, just 2 types of ham but no dried meat like Bündner Fleisch or the like, no salami, no speck, nothing; and 1 type of cut fruit. Bad presentation as well - just thrown into a glass door fridge with the joghurt and the water bottles.Fried and scrambled eggs were included, but Eggs Benedict were charged an additional 10 CHF.There were no pastries available anywhere in the hotel in the afternoons, to go with a cup of coffee or tea. Marshmallows were the only option. Never experienced anything like this before in a 5 star place.Food in the bar was mediocre to really bad. We had a pulled duck burger which ws ok, but the huge slab of goat cheese did not really make sense. The fries were squishy. The real diasppointment was the Cesar's Salad - I never thought you could mess that one up, but apparently, you can! The "salad" were some finely shredded greens (no idea what it was, maybe iceberg, but definitely not Romaine). Topped with some strange piece of chicken in a cornflakes crust. And hardly any dressing. We were so flabbergasted we did not even manage to complain. There is a sauna, which is really small, but is closed during our entire stay while they were waiting for some spare part. There is no designated relaxation room, just a lot of (comfortable) deck chairs around the pool. Which was ok-ish while we were there during a quiet period. Not ok when it is busy.All-in-all not worth going back as long as there is no change in management. Which is sad, it could be a great place. Next time we'd rather go to the other Leading Hotel in the same village which appears to be a whole different story (as far as we can tell from having had dinner there twice).

    Barely a hotel, very average

    rating25 Jan 2026

Unfortunately, our stay at Chalet RoyAlp was far below expectations and absolutely not worth the price. We booked one of the hotel apartments and it was extremely dirty upon arrival. We found black hairs in almost all the closets from previous guests, and the drawers were visibly dirty. Even after requesting cleaning, it was done very poorly. The bed sheets and towels still did not look clean, even after we specifically asked for them to be changed. If you are a germophobe, I strongly do not recommend this place. The service was very weak overall. You have to ask for everything — even still water is not provided unless requested. There is no proper late-night room service. What made this worse is that the room had a late dinner service brochure, but when we called to order, we were told it was outdated and incorrect. They said the only options available were pasta with red sauce and a cheese board. We reluctantly agreed, and the food arrived cold, with cold bread, cold cheese, and a sweet, unpleasant-tasting pasta. Completely unacceptable and far from anything resembling a luxury hotel.Management appeared careless and unorganized, and communication was a constant issue. The staff’s English is very limited, which led to repeated misunderstandings and having to explain ourselves multiple times. The hotel itself is very small, with little to do besides skiing in the same limited area and walking around a tiny village. The people working at the hotel were not welcoming, and the service felt cold and inefficient. The worst part was the chalet we stayed in — despite being one of the “best” options, it was uncomfortable and poorly equipped. There is no minibar, the coffee is bad, and there are no coffee flavors or syrups for those who care. Even the sugar sachets looked random, as if they were collected from different restaurants and thrown together.Overall, this was a bad experience that we will never repeat. This is not a luxurious destination at all — very average at best and barely qualifies as a proper hotel. I do not recommend this hotel or this village.

    Fantastic stay!

    rating22 Jan 2026

Our stay was nothing short of fantastic. The room was spacious with separate bedroom, walk-in dressing room and bathroom. It was opening on a balcony with beautiful Alps view. Culinary experience was great: we dined at both Bear's bar and had a fondue dinner at igloo - highly recommended. Spa offered relaxation moments we needed after skiing. Yes, the location of the hotel is great due to its proximity to slopes! Definitely recommended and hope to be back!

A perfect mix of relaxation and adventure - we can’t wait to come back!

We had an amazing winter stay at Chalet RoyAlp with our kids! The hotel is cozy yet luxurious, with breathtaking mountain views. The staff was incredibly welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed for a perfect family holiday. The kids loved the sledges provided by the hotel, which made for great fun in the snow! The indoor pool and play area kept them entertained. We all enjoyed the delicious food at both restaurants, live music at the bar and private cinema. The location is ideal, with easy access to ski slopes and winter activities. The hotel is dog-friendly. Can highly recommend.
