Location

The hotel is situated right at the train station in the very centre of Grindelwald. Guests can reach the shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs in less than 100 metres, and the bus station is just 50 metres away. The city of Interlaken is 20 km from the hotel, and Jungfraujoch is roughly an hour and a half away using public transport.

Facility

69 non-smoking rooms, including 16 single rooms, are located on 6 storeys and can be reached by lift. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and cash machine. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional amenities include a TV room, a playroom and a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (no extra charge) or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a 24-hour security service, medical assistance, a transfer service, room service, a laundry service and a coin-operated laundry. Bicycles can be kept in the bicycle storage area. Complimentary newspapers are available. A fax machine is available for guests' business needs.

Rooms

Central heating ensures that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Guests can enjoy the mountain view from a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed and a sofa bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Additional features include a refrigerator and a tea/coffee station. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. A sun terrace is a great place to while away the hours. The hotel offers an extensive outdoor sports programme, including cycling/mountain biking, tennis, crazy golf, golf, curling and Nordic walking. The hotel's location is particularly ideal for skiers. After an eventful day, guests can work out and recharge in the gym. The wellness offerings at the hotel include a spa, a sauna and a solarium.

    I want to start this review off positively - if you don't get the half-board option, I think this is a fantastic value hotel.Location - perfectRoom size, condition and cleanliness - great, exactly what I expect from the swissStaff - there's tonnes of them and they're all very friendly and helpfulDrink - reasonable prices.Noise? Very minimal, even as I was on the train station side of the hotel, you had to really listen for it (and I have sensitive ears)Myself and my family had rooms in an "apartment" in the penthouse that had its own kitchen and living room, with 3 double bedrooms and a fantastic balcony over the valley. I highly recommend that.However what let me down was the food at dinner time, specifically what you get with half board (I got a package with Crystal Ski). I can't comment on the a la carte.3 of the nights, unfortunately for me, the first 3 nights consecutively, was some kind of processed meat. This wasn't always immediately clear when you selected your meat / fish / veg option. It's simply not something I'd ever want or expect to be served, especially with such frequency at a decent hotel. The sides were also rather lacking in flavour and volume.The "salad bar" had 5 items on it, 2 of which were some kind of odd mix of green beans and pulses, the rest was plain lettuce, tomato and cucumber.The starters were fine, although very small. I do not suggest going if you dont expect to have a hearty lunch every day.This is one of dozens of times I've skied in Switzerland, I've stayed in 3 and 4 star hotels. At that standard I expect simple but well cooked food, good portions - nothing more or less. This did not live up to that, but if you are very unfussy I'm sure its fine.

    Loved my stay. Location right on the train platform so no transfer time to hotel. Interesting to stay facing the train tracks.The single room was as large as a small double room. Adequate cupboard space and a large modern bathroom.The staff are friendly and helpful.Breakfast was above average with large variety including hot items.

    A FANTASTIC time at the Hotel Derby

    We recently returned from staying a week at the Hotel Derby in Grindelwald, Switzerland. We were a group of 44 diehard senior skiers from the USA. Our hosts, Gunnar and Marion, and their staff, were FANTASTIC! They answered any questions and addressed all inquiries promptly. The hotel is THE place to stay in Grindelwald. It is a very well run property in all aspects. Clean, well maintained rooms, very good food and an excellent location. Although only a few steps from the town center, the area is not at all crowded or noisy. Aside from the property itself, the biggest plus is its proximity to the two railway lines. The local cog railway and the faster high speed line are immediately outside of the hotel’s front door. Both are electric, so no noise, and run on very convenient schedules. They are a classic example of precise Swiss timing. Since we have returned home almost every member of our group have asked how soon can we return to the Derby and the Jungfrau region. My answer has been, “not soon enough “!

    Perfect location for skiing - very easy access to various slopes via train or bus. Our room was always kept spotless and very comfortable. The view of the mountains was lovely. Even though we also overlooked the train station, we were not disturbed by any of the trains which are all electric, so very quiet. The staff were delightful and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The management strive really well to create a family atmosphere and it is easy to see why people return year after year. The food was varied and interesting and very tasty. Breakfast especially was delicious. We will certainly recommend the hotel to our friends and family, and hopefully will return at some time.

    An excellent stay here in early Jan. Good sized room with balcony and nice hot shower. Stayed on half board basis with excellent selection at breakfast and typical swiss cuisine for evening meals. Hotel have a very good a la carte restaurant . Nice bar area and good sized ski room with heated boot warmers. What is one of the hotels best features is its location overlooking the station and close to the main stop in the town which makes it very convenient for getting around. My room overlooked the station and did not notice any noise from the trains.
