    Pleasant hostel

    rating08 May 2026

I came here aft the end of an exhausting Haute Route on skis from le Tour in France. I had to change my reservation a couple of times because of changes in group size (ending up solo) and schedule. I was happy that wasn't a problem, like charging 'cancellation' while just turning up at a different day. The Trient-hut along the way did so.Conveniently I could drop off my skis and boots near the entrance in a spacious ski-room.I was friendly received by a girl, with consideration for me arriving a day later because of mishaps. The thing I missed from that point was an elevator, as I had my bed on an attic on the 5th floor, and had to drag my heavy backpack all the way up to start with. The whole building generally is quite new and neat. I did report a shower that only gave water for 10 seconds on a button-push, instead of the 30 seconds of the adjacent one, as I tested afterwards. The hand-rails on the stairs are easy to get caught on.A simple dinner is served, and a more generous breakfast. My booked dinner was forgotten, but luckily there was enough to serve.Price is reasonable for a very touristic village (though almost off season).Critique on Zermatt is that there is an electric bus-service around the village, but information about it is absent when arriving at the cable-car-station. I even asked a shop-owner, but she advised to simply walk. I did so, exhausted, on ski-boots, carrying my backpack and skis, partially uphill. Only to see such a bus stopping nearby the hostel, which in hindsight also must have passed that station. The whole system is not designed for ease of use.It did not bother to find a way to use it to the train-station the next morning, as I did not want to take a chance. So I walked again, on slippers, as my feet had been badly hurt.On arrival, I started by asking a taxi-driver. But I am not willing to 20 CHF for 700 metres. I would have paid 10.

    A brilliant stay

    rating22 Apr 2026

We have just had a wonderful 2 night stay at this youth hostel. There is an under stairs storage space for suitcases if you arrive too early for check in. The staff are very helpful, friendly and speak great English. We had a private room for the two of us which was clean and spacious. There was plenty of storage for shoes, coats and suitcases. The shower was hot and powerful - great after a day of hiking. It was 2 single beds but we pushed them together and staff were able to give us an extra pillow each . We were also lucky enough to have an amazing view of the Matterhorn out of our window. The one small down side to the room was the curtains weren't black out so the room stayed quite light throught the night. We had a free continental breakfast each morning that included bread, meats, cheese, jam, eggs, yogurt and cereal as well as juice, tea and coffee. More than enough to set us up for the day.The walk in to town takes no more than 10 minutes - its just very steep, especially when you have a suitcase. We would 100% stay here again. We loved it

    Almost spartan but great!

    rating21 May 2025

We were stuck in Sermatt and could not get back to Cervinia. We had only ski clothes and needed the cheapest option to spend the night before returning to the Italian side. We were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and helpful receptionist who could speak to us in Swedish and Danish (he is not from there). He made sure we had a comfortable stay, away from the noisy school kids. We did not get a room with a Mayterhorn view but we soon learned that this is one of the few places that has many rooms that offer this. Not to worry though because you can have breakfast "just under" the Matterhorn. The breakfast was surprisingly generous, especially the fact that it is free. We have paid more in other places and had only croissants and jam. Dinner looked amazing but it was sold out so we could not eat there.

    Amazing stay, amazing receptionist Zac

    rating02 May 2025

Our hotel reservatiin was canceled so we walked in to the youth hostel, feeling intimidated by all the young folk. But what a lovely surprise! We happened to meet again the amazing receptionist who embodies the spirit of Zermatt. He put us in one of many rooms with a Matterhorn view. We were pleasantly surprised by the great breakfast of this "lowly" hostel. During our stay we heard the multilingual Zac speak in fluent English Swedish, Thai and German and several other languages I could not identify. He is a widely traveled backpacker and could relate to guests from all over the world. He made everyone feel welcome after their stressful arrival. I was reminded again how knowledgeable he is. Every time I meet him I gain a new appreciation for Zermatt. This is a man who puts his heart and soul into his job.

    Great Hostel!

    rating25 Apr 2025

Stayed in a private room here, it was lovely, staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was a blessing with a large space to accommodate everyone in the hostel! Location led to some great views and a nice spot without much noise at night, room was clean and comfortable. Getting here from the train station via walking can be a bit tricking with lots of luggage due to the hills and steps leading up to the hostel. All in all a lovely place.
