  An Outstanding Family Stay in Zurich

  I booked this hotel through Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) for a one-night stay before continuing our trip through Switzerland. I arrived with fairly modest expectations, but the hotel exceeded them in every way.We traveled with two toddlers and stayed in a suite in the main building, which was absolutely beautiful. Perched high on a hillside, the hotel offers breathtaking panoramic views of Zurich and the surrounding area.The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived. The hotel arranged airport transportation for our family and provided two car seats for our children, making our arrival seamless and stress-free.Because we were dealing with significant jet lag, the staff went above and beyond to help us. They opened the children’s playroom at 2:00 a.m. so our kids could burn off some energy, and at 3:00 a.m. they kindly delivered a children’s meal to our room. These thoughtful gestures made a huge difference for our family and demonstrated a level of hospitality that is increasingly rare.Breakfast was excellent, and enjoying it while taking in the stunning views from the balcony was the perfect way to begin our Swiss vacation. We also took advantage of the hotel’s shuttle service, which conveniently transported us into the city so we could spend some time exploring Zurich.Overall, this was a wonderful stay with outstanding service, beautiful accommodations, and spectacular views. If I find myself back in Zurich, I would gladly return—and next time, I will stay for more than one night.   Excellent as usual, we have stayed 3 times now. Breakfast perfect. 2 small mistakes but sorted within minutes. 1st morning they forgot to book us breakfast. Very apologetic and sorted. Again 1st day, they got my car ready for departure. Spoke to reception, sorted.   Our First Trip to Zurich, Switzerland

  The Dolder Grand is a fabulous place to stay. The Hotel is beautiful and all that work there were more than welcoming, informative, and always willing to help, answer questions or just chat. The views from this hotel were amazing. We found the room spacious and very comfortable. Saltz Restaurant had some of the most amazing food. There was not one thing that we didn’t love and talk about after the meal. If you are in Zurich and don’t stay at this hotel, you are missing out!   A beautiful hotel with a few flaws at this price point.

  The hotel is old school and rather lovely for it, however, for the price one is paying (my rooms rate was chf1,400/night) there are many things that fall short. I give a four star overall because the stay was lovely, the staff are super friendly and some of the extras are exceptional … but for the price I was left disappointed. 1. Check-in: staff are friendly but not overly informative about facilities etc nor was there a welcome drink offered on arrival although appreciate the welcome cookies in the room. 2. The room itself (lake facing double deluxe in the original building) is lovely but hardwood floors are all scratched and destroyed - easily resolvable woth a nice rug - and the general decor felt old and tired and again not really worthy of the price nor the reputation this place has. In fact- some soft furnishings in general would be appreciated. 3. breakfast at Saltz - the service is generally terrible … again the staff are all super friendly, but they seem totally overwhelmed. It is unacceptable to have guests waiting for five minutes to “check-in” for breakfast when the room itself is relatively empty - I would recommend having a staff on check-in all the time. Also - service is very slow and often incorrect with items (usually coffees) either being incorrect or just not turning up at all even after several requests. Also, sitting outside at Saltz is lovely, but really the inside feels like an airport lounge - much of the furniture is dirty, stained and just not inviting. 4. The spa is really lovely, but I was expecting more … the outdoor pool is very very small and there aren’t really enough loungers to cater for the number of people. It is clean though and the indoor areas are relaxing. However, the thing that irks is that the outdoor pool is basically used by couples for heavy-petting and making out which is totally off putting - I am not a prude but I think it’s outrageous that some couples that decide to effectively pseudo-“f***” in the pool and they are allowed to do so - the staff don’t do anything about it - earlier today, one girl was essentially riding her partner in a very apparently sexual way for about 30mins and all the staff noticed but didn’t do anything about it. That’s unacceptable in this sort of hotel and it isn’t behaviour that a guest should have to point out or complain about (which I didn’t). On the positives - again staff are super friendly, the free rental car was a super surprise and drinks and food quality are all excellent and I thought actually very reasonably priced. And of course, location and view are spectacular.
