  Don't bother, poor hotel.

  We stayed here for two nights to explore and before transferring to Chur for the Bermina glass train. I wouldn't recommend this hotel, it's very basic. The room was small with no where comfortable to sit apart from a wooden chair and table. No where to relax. The bed was a small double with poor quality bedding and a thin duvet. The bathroom is very small and basic. Breakfast was ok, not a huge selection but the melon and yoghurt was refreshing and good, lady in breakfast room was very helpful and pleasant. Gentleman on reception was frosty and not overly welcoming. Overall we were disappointed with what we paid for this hotel and will be speaking to the travel agents to hopefully secure some sort of refund. Avoid booking. When booking a 3 star hotel in a historic building which is more than 600 years old, one should be aware that it is not a luxury accommodation. We always try our best to have the pictures and descprition as detailed and comprehensive as possible to avoid that guests bring the wrong ideas with them so that they are not disappointed. The pictures show the furnitures and it is i.e. mentioned that the bed in the category you have booked is only 1,4m wide. So you must have seen this when booking. The bedding is not at all poor, there are anti-allergic duvets with special hygienic equipment to offer our guests the best possible comfort. We apologize that we were not succesfull in your case.

  Would Not recommend Hotel

  This hotel is more hostel style, minus the communal bathrooms. The location is convenient as it is in old town and 10 min walk from the train station. However, because it’s in old town the building is old and does not have AC and the bathroom is really small. We stayed here during the summer. Although they say that you can open the windows, this is hard because of the loud noises from the party-goers, train, and early morning noises of things being rolled on cobble streets. It is also hard to take a shower comfortably because of the heat that accumulates in the tiny bathroom. Also, please be aware that you need to climb about 12 steps with your heavy suitcase to get to the receptionist. An elevator is only available after you climb the first set of stairs. So if you are dealing with any back pain, cardiac or respiratory issues, this is not the hotel for you. This hotel definitely does not live up to the significant prices they charge. We regret that you have not been aware that you have booked in a historic building which is more than 700 years old. Our location right in the heart of the old town is perfect to discover the city, but as in every city center, it is a very popular area and you have to expect some noise, especially in summer time. We are always willing to help with the luggage if someone is unable to bring it up the stairs. And as you mentioned, from the reception area there is a lift to all room floors.

  Rooms basic but clean. Night porter very pleasant & very helpful however other staff begrudging or unhelpful . Advised on check in that the breakfast was 10.30. Sat Sun came down at 10am all the croissants gone. Monday came down at 9.40am told VERY directly by OLDER chap (possibly rude owner) breakfast finishes a 10am. We pointed out the time & he just shrugged. We said well can we have some bread or croissants from the back (we had paid breakfast). He said he had none. He should have, as we had paid for the 4 of us and only 2 there at that point, if they ordered enough food, should have been something left. We grabbed a coffee and spoonful of yogurt and granola trying to get ahead of him and a young women clearing ahead of us. Then I left a flip flop on my room when I checked out. I realise before i left. Reception reluctantly let me up again to look for it , but it wasn't there. She did try to call house keeping (this was in the afternoon about 3pm) she said she tried and no answer that she had checked a trolley & could find it. Wasn't overly happy to do so. Knowing Id come from UK and the hotel was quiet though she speaks to someone. All very surly which was not the experience we'd had elsewhere throughout our stay in Zurich. People elsewhere were far more friendly and welcoming. Rooms noisy from busy square below but once that died down a seemingly endless stream of skips on wheels were being pushed about. Take earplugs .No air con, just a basic fan. Note, need a different adapter for Switzerland. Nice night porter did lend me one. Definite atmosphere and no chit chat among the staff quite telling. If not fussed then A good location for the money but again take ear plugs. Building lovely and historic. I wouldn't stay there again, unless under new friendly management. Make sure you are at breakfast at least half an hour before they advise the end time or you will be disappointed & don't think they overstock in food. Don't think he'd have taken that attitude had I gone with my burly husband and not my girlfriends. We deeply apologize that you did not find all items on the breakfast buffet when you came down. Sustainability is a big issue in Switzerland and we take great care to produce as little food waste as possible. That's why we do not overfill the buffet until the last minute. But you should of course anytime get bread and if you give us 10 minutes, we will bake fresh croissants for you. I do not understand why this was not done in your case and I will definitely investigate the incident so that this does not happen again in the future.When you came to pick up your suitcases and asked for your flip flop, I told you that we did not get any lost and found items from the housekeeping that day. You have made me understand that you cannot believe this. My staff are all very honest, housekeeping even returns expensive watches or found money to reception immediately. I trust my employees completely and am therefore not happy if they are suspected of not doing the job correctly. So I was not unhappy to go and have a look but that you suspected my employees. What should she do with a single flip flop? The flip flop has not turned up to this day.

  Terrible Hotel & DISHONEST practices- STAY AWAY! Double charged us for our stay. We are still trying to get our money back. I wish I had read the other reviews before booking. I agree with other reviews that they treat non white customers poorly! Silvia Mohn, Inhaber at Hotel Hirschen, responded to this review Dear guest, we distance ourselves completely from your accusations. We have never or will never charge a guest unjustifiably. If you have made a double booking, you cannot hold us responsible for the error. You will have to pay for your mistakes by yourself. Hosting guests is our business and all guests are very welcome, no matter where they come from or what colour their skin is. Racism is a very big and really inappropriate accusation.

  Great location, very clean hotel. friendly receptionists

  this hotel is located in a old town. it takes 15 min by walk till zürich hauptbahnhof. Many cafes around . Hotel is very clean, room is small but cute. 24 hours reception. Lift is available , but you need to take up your luggage from entrance til the reception nu stairs. Room keys are not card key, better to leave at reception when go out. our room was on 5th floor and there was also a terrace. Hotel provides umbrellas free of charge. The only minus was a slow internet connection. All the rest- excellent
