Unsatisfactory cleanliness and maintenance. Disgusting response from management.

    rating14 Jun 2026

The hotel offers good value for a functional stay near a busy tourist spot in Taipei. The room is cleverly designed that I found it to be quite functional for a solo traveler. The vibe of the hotel was of a trendy and modern theme. The elevator hall on my floor was extremely dark, too dark. I traveled as an adult male, and I found the hall to be creepy and felt unsafe. The dark lighting together with the black walls were making the elevator hall extremely scary to stay in or walk past. Not to mention, there was an obvious blind spot to the surveillance system on my floor (and presumably each floor) past room XX13. Everything beyond was not effectively covered by any surveillance cameras, which could pose a safety and security risk. Upon checking into the room, I noticed a small puddle of water of the floor next to the sink, I called the front desk and requested for a room change immediately. They arranged for another room on the same floor for me, after I entered it, I also found a puddle of water on the floor at the same spot. So I called the front desk again to request for another room change, stating the same issue still persisted in a different room. The front desk team member tried to explain by saying the puddles of water were results of the daily disinfection that were performed in the guest rooms. A explanation that I later rejected, questioning the highly localized nature of the puddle of water, and the reason for wetting the floor but not drying it afterwards, or consider wiping or mopping. They moved me to a third room, although without the puddle of water this time, the lamp cover was full of dark spots, that resembled excrements of bed bugs. The surface of the table below the TV was also visibly worn out. I called to raise concern, again, and at that point it was already 40 minutes after I checked in. I just want to unpack and settle in, so I requested for a room that I was moved to previously. The whole room move process was done without staff presence, and I was alone, going to the different rooms by myself. Upon closer inspection, I found scratches at the bottom of the sink, brown color stains at the bottom of the wall, a ceiling lamp covered in dust, and a glass panel in the wardrobe which was also dusty. I reported the cleanliness issues of the ceiling lamp and the glass panel in the wardrobe to the front desk, and requested them to arrange for targeted cleaning by the housekeeping team the next day. The amount of dust on the ceiling lamp did not appear in a day or two, it had to have been left untouched for months for it to accumulate that much dust. All of these contributed to the poor cleanliness and maintenance of the room that were systemic. An iPad was set up in the room that allows one to control most things in the room, the TV, the lighting, the air conditioning, the blinds and curtains, you name it. It may seem like an interesting idea, but in reality, one would have to wait for at least 10 seconds for the iPad to launch every time they wish to control some parts of the room. It was a frustrating experience. Something also has to be said for the service lapse at the hotel. One evening, I was holding a newly-purchased 30-inch suitcase with a single hand from the North Gate MRT station. I entered through the main entrance, there was a gentleman checking himself in with one of the self service Kiosks. There were two staff members present, no one bothered to offer assistance to the clearly distressed me with the large suitcase, and I had to squeeze through the narrow passageway between the gentleman and the wall, when the two staff members did not even bother to alert the gentleman to my presence.Moving on to the amenities. They provided two bottles of shampoo/ shower gel mix in the room, labeled AM and PM. I commented on the practicality of the shampoo/ shower gel mix, suggesting the hotel provide a bottle of each instead. There was no toothbrush, toothpaste, or comb provided in the room because of a law in Taiwan prohibiting hotels from doing so, which sounded fair, I had brought my own tooth set anyway. Though I did comment of this not being mentioned on Marriott Bonvoy’s website or app, suggesting the property could utilize the “Hotel message” column to display crucial information such as this, instead of a playful message that reads “Our rooms are cleverly compact, so there’s no space for rollaway beds or cribs (we tried, the bed won). Thanks for understanding!” Strangely enough, there was no cups provided in the room. I am not really used to putting my mouth right under the tap, and I was directed to obtain a cup from the bar/ canteen on the 2/F myself. These definitely contributed to a substandard stay on a functional level. I shared my observations and feedbacks with a manager on duty at the property via a phone call. The manager apologized for the multiple oversights previously mentioned, claiming that corrective actions will be taken, while also explaining that some issues I raised were part of the brand standard, and could not easily be changed, namely, the AM/ PM shampoo/ shower gel mix, the lack of cups in the room, and the spotty iPad. I expressed my understanding, while also citing the importance of guest comfort, that even with brand standard in mind, not all properties within the same brand under Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio would fully conform to the brand standard, and properties should be allowed a certain degree of flexibility, especially when it comes to localization and guest comfort. I gave an example of The Ritz-Carlton, Nekajii, that does not use the signature Diptyque brand of amenities. The manager on duty expressed understanding, and stated that she would record and reflect my opinion to senior management. At the end of the call, I requested compensation for the various cleanliness and maintenance issues, the service lapse, and the overall discomfort and user unfriendliness at the hotel. The manager requested to get back to me at a later time, which I accepted. Now on the most digesting part of this stay. I received a written reply from the hotel management the evening of my departure. The reply was of a completely different stance to my phone call with the manager on duty earlier. It was defensive, dismissive, and they even tried to call me for subjecting them to a standard that is too high, calling me out on my Ritz-Carlton comparison. Basically, it was a big “screw you” in the face. I replied by stating my utmost dissatisfaction towards them twisting my words with the Ritz-Carlton comparison, when I was merely trying to point out the flexibility that exists within the concept of brand standards, and I had already managed my expectations prior to my arrival. This reply by the management, strengthened my case that there are systemic and persistent issues, with multiple aspects at this property, not just isolated incidents. There are vastly better options at a similar price point in the area.

    Good stay.

    rating12 Jun 2026

I have stayed in a CitizenM before so I knew what to expect. I like the window right by the bed and the TV right in front of you . And white and red tone also just gives off a cosy vibe. It’s a hip boutique hotel. The room is more suitable for solo travelers. For couples like us, getting on and out of the bed and bit disturbing the other is not easy. There’s an also not much space (no luggage rack) for luggages. But I was expecting that so it’s fine. Locations wise this is great, short walk to Ximending and Taipei Main Station. The price was a little higher the weekend of my stay. But I still think it’s one of the better option international hotel around the area.

Great location, everything else was lacking

    rating27 May 2026

First of all, the location is great. However I won’t see myself returning unless I want to stay near that area.- Check in iPads were difficult to use, and the hotel is so understaffed I had to wait for one to be available- Rooms were extremely small, especially for the price you’re paying - Chose the dining credit as my Bonvoy benefit. It was NTD300. I only stayed one night so I thought it would be usable between the check in and check out. Also, i grabbed a coffee the first night, and the staff didn’t say anything that I had to use the full amount that evening. The next day, I went to get a coffee and was told that my credits are no longer valid because I used it the night before, and any leftover amount was no longer valid. I’m not going to bother because it’s only like US$5, but the sneakiness and the embarrassing conversation did not leave a good impression.- Also does not bother recognising Bonvoy’s upgrade benefit. I could still book a better room on the app (and I checked in at evening) but wasn’t given one. Overall, don’t bother staying here if you’re a Bonvoy member expecting any benefits.

Vibrant, Stylish & Surprisingly Warm – Perfect Short Stay in Taipei!

    rating02 May 2026

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the entire team at citizenM Taipei for making my short stay truly unforgettable.I came to Taipei for a special weekend getaway and stayed just one night, but this hotel completely exceeded my expectations. citizenM has a vibrant and stylish vibe that feels refreshingly different from traditional hotels. Instead of a conventional check-in counter, I was greeted by self-check-in iPads, with friendly staff always nearby ready to help.Even though I booked at the last minute and didn’t get a city view room, my room was spotless, neat, and comfortable. What impressed me most was the exceptional service. I had arranged for a cake to be delivered to the hotel, and the staff handled it beautifully — keeping it perfectly chilled so we could enjoy it that evening. To my pleasant surprise, they even brought me a delicious cocktail to celebrate the occasion!Thank you, citizenM Taipei, for creating such sweet and memorable moments. You guys are truly amazing! 🎉

    Unbeatable location

    rating10 Apr 2026

If you are looking for a place to crash after eating your way through Taipei, this is it. The location is absolutely unbeatable. You can easily walk to both Ximending and Taipei Main Station, which saved us a ton on taxis and made hauling our luggage to the airport train a breeze. The hotel itself is fun and compact. I loved the "smart room" setup; having an iPad that controls literally everything (lights, AC, TV, curtains) made me feel like I was staying in a futuristic pod. It is clean, efficient, and perfect for solo travelers or couples who don’t mind a tight squeeze. My only real gripe is the bathroom design. There is a privacy curtain that separates the sleeping area from the toilet, which is great in theory, but it is transparent. Not frosted, not opaque, just clear. It does not offer much privacy if you are traveling with a friend, and if someone turns on the bathroom light in the middle of the night, the whole room lights up.
