    Howard Plaza Hotel

    rating12 Apr 2026

A solid if not somewhat dated hotel nearby great shopping (SOGO) and the MRT. Their breakfast is a tad pricey by Taipei standards but is really solid. The shower may feel a bit cramped. The family chooses this hotel all the time. Loud construction & the pool is closed.

    rating22 Mar 2026

Our stay at this hotel was very dissapointing. Even though they are undergoing massive renovations, they are still charging high prices. When we checked in they told us that the pool was closed & the gym was moved to a temporary location. I was planning to use the pool everyday after touring. They never mentioned at check in that the rooms were being renovated on several of the floors and the noise will begin early in the morning & go all day. So, after traveling for 24 hours from the US we woke up at 8:30 am to loud pounding and jack hammer noise. We asked to be moved to a room where the construction was not above us. They gave us another room where the noise above us was even louder & we could hear the commuter train every 5 minutes. We then were moved to another room. The rooms are on the smaller size, worn with dirty carpeting. The beds are pretty hard. The buffet breakfast was very nice with many options. Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei 台北福華大飯店, Owner at The Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by construction noise during your stay.We will further enhance staff training to ensure information is communicated more effectively. For more details regarding our renovations, please visit our official website: https://shorturl.at/imqSVSincerely,The Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei

    Classical hotel in good location

    rating04 Feb 2026

I stayed five nights, my room was on 11th floor. The hotel is not new but I did enjoy my stay there: the room is quite big, attached is a bathroom with shower and tub and a shaving mirror! The bed was quite comfortable, as I do not like soft mattresses. Air conditioning was not needed, instead I found a little portable heater in my room. Housekeeping was quick every day, I never had to wait when I returned from my journeys. Buffet breakfast downstairs was absolutely delicious, provided you like Chinese/Asian food (which I do). I used the gym on 4th floor every morning, it is quite big with many treadmill/cycling machines plus weights equipment. Unfortunately the gym only opens at 6:30, I would have preferred even earlier opening time. The location of Howard Plaza is quite good, only a 10min walk to the MRT station (red line and brown line). Excellent staff / Nice hotel amenities

    rating31 Jan 2026

The rooms were very nice and the staff particularly professional. At one point staff did a great job reuniting me with my passport - accidentally left in a taxi at Taipei 101. This really 'saved the day' - to say the least. The onsite pool, dining, fitness center and boutique shopping were also very nice. I would definitely plan on staying here again on a future visit. Uncomfortable stay

    rating18 Jan 2026

TL;DR - Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei is an old hotel that needs significant room upgrades and maintenance. Specifically, its broken A/C, stained carpet, torn curtains, and services all need management attention. -----Upon check-in I was offered a $500NTD per night room upgrade for a bigger room with larger twin beds. We took the offer. The first room we were given keys to smelled like an ash tray so we asked for a different room. We got one but the A/C was broken. It was a very cold night. The room's A/C blew air with no heat. I called front desk and they sent two difference household persons to our room (one of them could not speak either English or Mandarin) and basically just told me how to set the desired room temperature. That wasn't helpful at all. Around 11, we asked for more blankets and a room heater. They were delivered 20 minutes later. We didn't go to bed till 12:30AM or so.The next day I complained to the front desk about the room condition and asked for a refund on the upgrade. I was refused. They said they would instead send 'engineering' to fix the A/C. When we came back later that day the room was very warm. we thought it was fixed but no ... When we turned on the A/C's 'cool' function to try bringing the room temperature down, it quickly went up two degrees celsius instead. I called the front desk and had our room switched again. This time the A/C was sort of working but it took a couple of hours to bring one degree celsius up or down. We were sick and tired of switching rooms again. We stayed in this room till we checked out 3 days later.I asked for refund on the upgrade again the next morning for the nights we suffered A/C problems. We were again refused. The next morning, on my way out via the hotel's side entrance, I tripped and fell forward. I almost hit my head on the post on the sidewalk. The step-down was marked 'dangerous' in small warning signs on the floor but the signs on the floor were difficult to see. I was hurt from the fall but not seriously injured so I did not pursue this matter any further. Taipei's warm (I meant 'muggy') season is getting much longer than past years. We really don't want to be trapped in this hotel with barely working A/C. Lastly the beat up curtains and stained carpets made us feel like staying at a cheap motel. In summary, the hotel is seriously outdated. Our stay at this hotel was overall uncomfortable and awkward. Based on our experience we will not consider this hotel again for our future Taipei visits.----See attached pictures for examples: the curtains are full of small holes and patches with scotch tapes in the front and sticky notes in the back. Also stained carpets. Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei 台北福華大飯店, Owner at The Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback regarding your stay. We sincerely apologize for the multiple issues you experienced, particularly with the room condition, air conditioning, and overall comfort. It is clear from your description that your stay did not meet the standards we strive to maintain, and we deeply regret the inconvenience and frustration caused.Your comments regarding the broken A/C, stained carpets, damaged curtains, and the slow response from our staff have been shared with our management and engineering teams for immediate review and improvement. Safety concerns, such as the step near the side entrance, have also been noted, and we will ensure that clearer markings and preventive measures are implemented. We are truly sorry that your experience led to discomfort and disappointment, and we understand your decision regarding future visits. Please know that your feedback is invaluable and will guide us in upgrading our facilities and services to better meet guest expectations.Thank you again for bringing these matters to our attention.Best regards,The Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei
