Unreasonable Cancellation Policy in a Medical Emergency

    rating27 Dec 2025

I am writing this review to share an extremely disappointing and distressing experience with The Tango Hotel, one I never expected given my prior positive stay at The Tango Inn two years ago.My mother has been undergoing treatment for advanced cancer at a nearby hospital. We were initially told she would be discharged the following day, which required me to urgently arrange accommodation for my parents, who live in southern Taiwan. Due to her weakened condition, traveling home was not an option, so I booked an 8-night stay (December 27 to January 4) at The Tango Hotel through Booking.com.The day before check-in, her doctor advised us to avoid hotels with central air conditioning due to her medical condition and recent chemotherapy. Only then did I realize that the hotel’s AC system was unsuitable for her needs. This was an entirely unplanned medical circumstance, and I immediately contacted the hotel via Booking.com and directly to request a cancellation. The hotel flatly refused. I was then required to go in person to negotiate alternatives. After a prolonged and emotionally draining discussion, the hotel agreed to reduce the charge to one night only, but only if a hospital letter could be produced within a few hours. Otherwise, I was told I would be charged for the entire 8-night stay, even if we never checked in.This ultimatum put us in an impossible position. The hospital would not issue the required letter while my mother was still admitted, so she was effectively forced to request an early hospital checkout, move into a temporary Airbnb with non-central air, and then physically return to the hotel with the letter—while having my mother in a taxi in a severely weakened condition. This was done solely to avoid catastrophic financial loss. What made the situation even more upsetting is that the hotel chose to charge us for the most expensive night of the entire stay—New Year’s Eve—rather than the actual check-in date or any subsequent night. This decision felt like clear financial exploitation of a family already under extreme emotional and medical stress. At no point was empathy shown, nor was any flexibility offered beyond rigid policy enforcement. This experience revealed customer service practices that are deeply unfriendly and, in moments of genuine medical need, profoundly disappointing. This will unquestionably be my last stay at any Tango property. I share this experience so others—especially those booking through Booking.com—can make informed decisions, particularly if they may face unexpected medical emergencies.

Wanted to like the hotel, but no hot water for showers is unacceptable

    rating27 Mar 2025

The staff was accommodating enough to hold our luggage for 3 days while we went to another city. The first set of rooms was nice and had everything we needed. The second set of rooms did not have functioning hot water. It would be lukewarm at best and I developed a cold and was bedridden due to the cold shower. We asked the front desk multiple times, but they insisted it was working - when it clearly was bad. 1 out of 5 showers would have hot water. If you're planning on staying here ask for a room higher up in the floors or deal with COLD showers.

Threw out my medicine - refused to make it right.

    rating18 Oct 2024

I’ve stayed at Tango as a business traveler about 4 times. Overall I’ve had few complaints. This visit however was shocking. I left a cardboard pill box with my blood pressure medicine on my nightstand. I didn’t give a second thought since in Taiwan generally cleaning staff is super careful about not throwing things away that are not IN the garbage (they leave dirty napkins out and crumpled receipts and empty pizza boxes out if they are not in the trash!). I stayed for 5 nights. On Friday my last full day, I woke up and went to take my pills. The box was gone. I searched the room, drawers, my luggage - nothing. Called the front desk who said they would ask the cleaning staff. I returned at 12:00 - meanwhile I can’t buy these meds without a prescription. They inform me that “the cleaning staff says they did not throw them away.” The front desk refused to accept any responsibility because “they wouldn’t do that.” Yes, I agree but people make mistakes. No acknowledgement of responsibility. The meds cost me about 500 NTD as it happened to be a 30 days supply with maybe 20 pills left. I told him it was also expensive in addition to being a health risk for me. No apology, no acceptance of responsibility, no offer to reimburse me for the medicine, no nothing. Their checkout time is 11:00am. Next morning I called to ask for a late checkout - 12:00. I’m told it’s 500 NTD. I brought up the medicine again - yet nothing. Typical Taiwanese avoidance when there is embarrassment - no attempt to make it right, no acknowledgement. Nothing. Unfortunately my business partners pay for the room, and it’s very convenient so I guess I’ll be back for more punishment. Maybe they know that?

Great value with high quality bathroom

    rating02 Oct 2024

I travel every year to SE Asia. This was the best new hotel I have even stayed for less than $120/night included 2 nice breakfast—the cold noddle with salmon was excellent. Loved their elevator! The best and most quietest one ever! No annoying beeping/dinging sounds, no announcement, just QUIET rides !I get startle easy, the smart toilet lid beep, opens and closes by itself whenever it senses motion, that startled me every time on 1st day. That’s probably the only thing I did not like.

    Chic look but not practical

    rating19 Apr 2024

The front desk is not friendly.Pool is out of action for 9 months of the year.Look only at the pool - then cry.Especially when the temperature reaches 30 degrees in April.Only one chair in the room.So couples are not welcome. No desk or area to work a laptop- the round table prevents access to the balcony. The bath is lovely but there is s separate shower booth.Crazy use of space - bathroom is bigger than the living area.Good accommodation for one person who is not a swimmer☹️Storage areas are non existent.Stayed here for 10 days! Too late to cancel.
