2/5 stars. Rooms 3/5, Service 1/5, Value 1/5, Cleanliness 4/5, Location 4/5.This was the stop I'd been most excited for in two weeks across Thailand, and it turned into the worst part of the entire trip, entirely because of how guest services and management handled themselves. The good: smooth shuttle/boat transfers, lovely pools, a small but pretty beach, and plenty of free swimming gear (water shoes, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkel gear). The spa treatments themselves were excellent. The food does not match five star pricing. The Thai food didn't taste like it was made by a Thai cook, street food outside the gates was better, and the western options were fine but unmemorable, all significantly overpriced. My garden room smelled like sewage on arrival. Housekeeping was fantastic and confirmed it was a plumbing issue, not cleanliness, and a manager offered a room switch plus a comped spa treatment since I'd already prebooked two treatments weeks earlier. From there it unraveled: confusion over my daily credit that I asked about three separate times and never got a straight answer until checkout, a WhatsApp follow-up offer that didn't match what the manager and I had actually agreed to, and a "we'll only cover half" reversal sprung on me right before I checked out.But the real problem was Mint, the manager who handled checkout. She walked in already closed off: arms crossed, jaw set, barely any eye contact, and a sharp, unkind tone from her very first sentence. At one point I had to stop and flat out ask her to speak to me more kindly, because her tone alone made clear this wasn't going to be a conversation, it was going to be a wall. She didn't soften. She didn't ask what happened. She just repeated the resort's position, colder each time, arms still crossed the entire time. Then guest services produced a printed letter, already typed up before I'd said a single word, waiving 1,725 THB (~$50) and asking me to sign away any right to pursue this further with the resort or my travel agent. That letter existing before the conversation even started tells you exactly how seriously they intended to engage with me. I refused to sign. This wasn't service recovery, it was a scripted attempt to make a paying guest disappear quietly, delivered by someone who couldn't manage basic courtesy while doing it.I wasn't going to stand there and fight over $60, but I told Mint directly that it left a bad taste in my mouth. You cannot promise one thing verbally, let a guest spend based on that promise, and then reverse it with paperwork and a cold shoulder on the way out the door. For what this resort charges, they need to seriously retrain their managers and guest services on how to actually talk to guests instead of just managing them out the door. I would not return, and I would not recommend Santhiya to anyone. There are better options on the island. It's genuinely unfortunate, because this was the stop I was looking forward to most, and it's the one that let me down hardest.

    Beautiful island resort

We loved this hotel . The arrival by speedboat to this beautiful resort followed by checking into our lovely rooms and then days of relaxing on the private beach was fantastic. We really enjoyed the traditional Thai decor and the surrounding jungle. It’s a quick walk to the neighbouring beach and some other nice bars and restaurants . Good value generally and the staff all friendly and helpful .

    Luxurious Paradise

    rating06 Sept 2026

Spectacular hotel on a hill side.We stayed for 6 nights at the Santhiya and were in a hideaway lodge.Very luxurious experience throughout. The staff were amazing, always smiling and very helpful. Please see the attached photo of our favourite member of staff.Couple of areas that could be improved:1) The Shuttle bus to the small village nearby is great, however please note if you are not at the departure point back, 10 minutes in advance and it arrives early it may leave before the specified time. This happened to us, we phoned the hotel and they came back to pick us up, so all was fine.2) Depending on yout length of stay you will recieve credit that can be used at the resort. This was not made clear to us and we eventually found out about this just before departure. The hotel did allow us to buy drinks with it at this point and we purchased the most expensive bottle of Gin on the island to use up the credit! We would have much preferred to use the credit to purchase dinner at the resort

The arrival by a 40 minute speedboat from koh samui is a wonderful way to access this resort. We loved the traditional ornate architecture of the reception areas, the breakfast area and public spaces and our room overlooking the pool and the sea. It is very much in the jungle and does not feel like a hotel but a pirates of the caribbean theme park.I understand how this means there are more insects than you see in most hotels but the trade off is space and a wonderful charm. We loved the breakfast- best we had in Thailand and there is a choice of the hotel restaurants or a 10 minute walk to the village for more local character. The gym and fitness room is stunning overlooking the jungle and sea. The main pool and access to the sea is not crowded and well supplied. We had some issues with WiFi and our pool being closed, and signing out towels is a pain but as I sit writing this from another 5 star hotel in Ko Samui I would prefer to be back at this resort.
