I asked our travel agent for somewhere in Thailand that is quiet and suitable for a few days retreat. That is exactly what it was. The resort is clean, well maintained and constantly serviced by friendly staff. Breakfast was so varied to suit all tastes and Western and Thai cuisines. No-one can honestly go hungry here. Meals served throughout the day are good quality, well presented and reasonably priced. The beach is beautiful with very little tidal difference so the sea is always at your feet. Clear waters, warm even in February and safe for all. Towels provided on the beach but grab your lounger early to ensure you get a good choice. The rooms are clean and spacious with daily bottles of water supplied. Our room was high on the hillside, so it was good exercise every time we went up there. Beware if you have difficulty with 85+ steps up and down. There is not a lot of scope for places to visit on the island. We walked each time but in the high humidity- tiring and plenty of water. The bus service is only a maximum of 50THB but seems to be very erratic and we couldn't find out the official timings. There are taxis but at 300THB we declined (skinflints). Of the those beaches and resorts that we saw and explored we conclude that Ao Prao is by far the best of anything. For a quiet, relaxing break it is ideal (as long as you are not seeking to go sightseeing).

Wonderful place to stay!

We’ve had some really wonderful days at Ao Prao Resort. We chose the place due to location and good food rating, and we were not disappointed. Such a relaxed and comfortable place, great location, super friendly staff and wonderful Thai food. We even tried the cooking class and go back with a trick or two. This place ❤️ We’d be back in a blink of an eye!

Another great stay

This is our third stay at Ao Prao resort, this time for five nights between Christmas and New Year as party of a family group of 20.The resort is lovely, the beach is wonderful and quiet and perfect for families (and non families!). Our daughter loved taking a taxi over to Sai Kaew beach for a few evenings to try different places.I would say the BBQ evening at the hotel is a bit underwhelming and overpriced, but otherwise the food is excellent. I think their Tom Yum Goong is particularly excellent and had it several times for lunch.

Oasis of peace and stunning views

For departure to the island, head to Ao Prao Pier (right next to the main ferry pier), which is shared by the three Samed resorts on Ao Prao beach. At the pier, passengers are divided into three groups according to their hotel and then taken to separate speedboats. The transfer to the island is very quick, taking only about 7–10 minutes.The beach at Ao Prao Resort is simply stunning – the epitome of Thailand. Soft white sand, shallow turquoise water, palm trees, a gentle breeze… pure relaxation. We felt that Ao Prao Resort was the most refined of the three hotels on this beach, offering the best facilities and the most space between the sunbeds, both on the beach and around the pool deck. There is no on-site gym, but guests receive an access card to a small gym at the neighbouring hotel, which is perfectly adequate for a basic workout.Other travellers have mentioned that they found the main restaurant overpriced and not very good, but our experience was the complete opposite. We absolutely loved the food: a great mix of Thai dishes, far beyond just the usual pad thai and chicken skewers, and all very reasonably priced. And the setting is incredible – you sit on a beautiful terrace under a large tree decorated with fairy lights, overlooking the bay with a truly breathtaking view.Our room (Premier Seaview) was very nicely decorated, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully equipped – not only with bathrobes, but also a beach bag, slippers, and even flip-flops.Overall, we felt it offered excellent value for money and would definitely come back.
