Aloha Resort – Great Beach, Not-So-Great 1995 Time Capsule

    rating11 Jan 2026

If your dream vacation is to step straight onto a beautiful beach and sink into a sunbed with a fresh towel, Aloha Resort delivers exactly that. Beach access is excellent, and the supply of sunbeds and towels is genuinely one of the highlights of the stay.Unfortunately, that is where the resort’s journey into the 21st century seems to end.The room appears to have been built in 1995 and then lovingly preserved as a museum piece ever since. Dark heavy wood everywhere gives it a “mildly depressing teak shrine” aesthetic. Lighting is either absent or consists of harsh white fluorescent bulbs that make the room feel like a small convenience store at closing time. There was no safety deposit box, and there were no power outlets near the beds, perfect if you enjoy watching your phone charge from across the room while lying in the dark. The fridge deserves its own paragraph. An impressive vintage unit, completely filled with ice, permanently set to “Arctic Expedition” because the temperature knob was broken. It froze anything we put inside, and could not actually be used as a fridge. Let’s call it a very dedicated freezer. The TV in our room heroically displayed only black-and-white snow with heavy static, while the TV in the neighboring room came through loud and clear… through the locked connecting door. So we could not watch our TV, but we could enjoy theirs. The bathroom featured a shower-in-bathtub in classic “American sitcom” style, with the shower head positioned at about chest height. To wash my hair, I had to perform a light squat workout. There was no handheld shower. Two electrical outlets existed; one seemed to be slowly extracting itself from the wall, perhaps also trying to check out early.Wi-Fi was barely usable for streaming, constantly dropping. AIS mobile coverage inside the room was essentially nonexistent. Meanwhile, cockroaches seemed to have excellent coverage and made a few unwelcome appearances. After 9 nights, sheets were never changed, which added to the overall “long-term archaeological stay” feeling.Reception promised to notify us when our room was ready but did not. After check-in time had passed, I returned to ask. My question about whether there was a problem received no answer at all, which was impressively consistent with the rest of the service experience. To be completely fair: the beach and sunbeds were genuinely enjoyable. But overall, considering the room rate and the condition of the property, this is not good value.Rating: 2 out of 5. Great beach. Everything else needs a serious upgrade, preferably sometime after 1995.

    Absolutely Awesome experience

On the quieter side at the bottom of Lamai but in walking distance from the action.Nice pool , quieter beach , clean and air conditioned rooms , average breakfast , nice massage area on the beach.A 7/11 nearby , a great massage place right outside with restaurants both inside and outside this resort that gives you all you need.An awesome stay.

Great place with superb views and everything within a stones throw

Superb attentive check-in that was smooth and accurate. 1 x family room and 1 x villa. It is a great place with fantastic views right on the beach. The temperature of the pool was just perfect, and a small pool bar offered great beers and food.Nice comfy sun loungers and towels provided. the Aloha is set in the quieter end of Lamai but very close to all bars, restaurants, shops, etc.If there is one thing that disappointed, it is the fact that the only single power socket was behind the TV and only allowed 1 usage at a time. Our room was superb with 3 large beds, but in todays interactive charging world, it fell short. It was a great place where we would happily stay again.

    Terrible

This hotel would easily be the worst place I have stayed in never have I had worse service and a room that was horrendous. The images that advertise the rooms are not what is reality !! If I could have left with a refund I would have but not available. Breakfast was also a shambles just try to get a seat is difficult in such a small area the food on offer is basic and bland. Do yourselves a favour and flick past this hotel in Lamai loads of better options.
