Review of Bill Resort, Koh Samui

    rating25 Feb 2026

The only positive aspect of Bill Resort is its proximity to the beach. Beyond that, the experience was extremely disappointing. The property is old, poorly maintained, and nothing like the images presented on the website. The buildings are visibly dated, with cracked walls and clear signs of neglect. During our stay, the roof leaked when it rained, which is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one marketing itself as a luxury resort.Access to and from the resort involves a very steep hill, which is worth noting for anyone with mobility concerns.Housekeeping was also far below acceptable standards. Over a nine-night stay, our room was cleaned just once. For the price being charged, this level of service is indefensible.Overall, this resort falls dramatically short of the “luxury” it advertises. It is significantly overpriced for the condition and service provided. I strongly recommend reviewing recent guest photos before booking.

    Family run Rustic resort

    rating30 Jan 2026

This was a last minute booking as we wanted a good place to stay in Koh Samui. It is a family run resort with 70 individual rooms. Not a high rise building. If you’re looking for Hilton style accommodation this is not the place. However Mr Sen is a very pleasant and helpful man. For example I ‘lost’ my door key. I went to reception to get a replacement. He rummaged through the bunch of keys until he found it. Opened my room door. That’s when I found the key in my shirt pocket ( I don’t normally use that shirt and had forgotten that I placed it there. He was gracious and didn’t make any comment. It had taken a long time to find the right key yet he was ‘cool’ about it. Was great at organising taxis for us.My room overlooked the sea. The sea is just down the slope on the edge of the resort. The Bill Resort is quite well known to the local taxis. About 30 minutes away from the airport or ferry. Need to negotiate the price. In January 2026 they were quoting 1200 Bhat. I got it down to 700 Bhat. I would definitely visit again if I return to Koh Samui because they serve with the Heart.

    Utterly charming

    rating11 Jul 2025

Love everything about this place! Clean and comfortable and utterly charming with a fascinating Thai authenticity fused with 80's Westerner-discovers-Samui decline. Would highly recommend to travellers who value aesthetics over same-as-home comfort and who value beach walks and serenity over hustle. The restaurant was superb.

An Older Resort that is a Hidden Gem at Lamai Beach

    rating20 May 2024

I consider this older resort hotel to be a 'hidden gem' at Lamai Beach. I was skeptical about it at first because I had seen it from the beach during the pandemic and it seemed to be falling apart. But on this trip I had to book on short notice and my options were limited, so I decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised! Although you can't tell from the beach, it's a large resort that extends up to a number of bungalows up on the hill. Yes, it's old and in need of maintenance, but it's directly on the beach in a good location. Your satisfaction with your Bill Resort experience may depend on the type of room that you book. The beachside bungalows were nice, but beyond my budget. (And you need to book them far in advance.) I chose NOT to book in the cheapest group of rooms in a common building. Instead I booked the 'villa', which was large and had a nice patio. If you're not sure which room to choose, ask the lady at the front desk, who is very helpful. Motorcycles can be rented from the front office as well. The resort is still a bit rough around the edges but it seems like they've made incremental improvements. Their restaurant is open (although I didn't eat there), the pool water looks clean, and the beachside massage ladies are available almost every day. One night per week they have a 'reggae night' at the bar. It was a bit noisy and it's not my thing, but I was glad to see that they have a popular activity. Downhill from the resort on the other side is the main road, Lamai Post Office, and a Macro. Overall, Bill Resort is in an excellent location right on Lamai Beach at an affordable price for the area. I would stay there again on future trips to the Lamai area.

    just wrong

    rating01 Feb 2024

Absolutely outraged, we had booked a week stay here after reading good things. Aircon broken for days, was put in another room that was less than what we payed for and was dirty. Finally got back to our originally room and told the lady at the desk we wanted to stay longer as we couldn’t find anywhere else, she wrote it down on our file and then we went to pay and she said we couldn’t stay. No other hotels available in the area for the next few nights and as a pregnant woman this is not only scary but unacceptable
