This is a boutique resort nestled amongst the palm groves on the southern tip of Koh Tao. The club resort is totally private as it is situated in its own natural bay, with granite cliffs on both sides and jungle behind, yet the resort is only a kilometre away from the nearest village with local shops and restaurants. The resort is situated on the beautiful Haad Tien Beach, also known as Shark Bay. This beach is over 400 metres long and the resort is lucky enough to have the whole beach to itself. The beach itself is one of the most outstanding beaches on Koh Tao with brilliant white powdery sand and crystal clear, warm waters. It opens out onto a crystal blue shallow lagoon which is perfect for swimming and snorkelling, and at night all that can be heard is the lapping of the waves and the whistling of the breeze.

Beautiful Location, but the Overall Experience Was Disappointing

We decided to stay at Haadtien Beach Resort because this place had been on our mind for a long time. We had originally booked a stay here during the COVID period but unfortunately never had the chance to come. Koh Tao is also very special to us because my boyfriend proposed to me here, so this trip was meant to be a meaningful return for our anniversary.Unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations, starting from the booking process.Communication through LINE and by phone was very slow and often unclear. At times, the information provided was confusing enough that I became quite frustrated. We eventually received a special rate because there had been a mistake in the price originally quoted by the staff, which I appreciated, but the overall booking experience was still quite stressful.Before our arrival, there was no proactive contact from the resort, so I had to call them myself to reconfirm the stay and arrival details.Once we arrived, we were given a room located very far from the main resort area. I am not sure whether this was supposed to be one of the better rooms, but the walk was quite long and inconvenient. The room itself also felt quite old, and unfortunately the cleanliness was not up to the standard we expected. We even found a used cotton bud on the floor. The bed was also not very comfortable.The pool area was another disappointment. The staff did not seem very willing or attentive when it came to service, some of the sunbeds were dirty from bird droppings, and the overall area felt crowded and not particularly well maintained.What made the experience more disappointing was that we had just stayed at another resort on Koh Tao that was actually less expensive, but the service there felt much warmer and more attentive. Even small details made a difference. For example, snorkeling masks were provided complimentary at the other resort, while here they were only available for rental and with a limited usage time.We went to the restaurant at around 5:30 PM and asked whether we could still order from the happy hour menu, as the promotion was supposed to continue until 6:00 PM. At first, we were told that we could not, but later it turned out that we actually could, which made the communication feel confusing again.That said, the food itself tasted good, and this was one of the more positive parts of the stay. The restaurant furniture, however, looked quite old and not very clean. When it started raining, the restaurant kindly lent us an umbrella to take back to the room, which we appreciated.We also ordered in-room dining. It took quite a long time to arrive, but as the weather was bad and it was raining heavily, we understood the delay.Overall, the resort is in a beautiful location and has a lot of potential, but for us, the service, communication, cleanliness, and maintenance did not match the level we expected, especially considering the price. Because this trip had such sentimental value for us, we had really hoped the stay would feel more special.It was not a terrible stay, but compared with other resorts we experienced on Koh Tao, including one at a lower price point, this stay unfortunately felt less polished and less welcoming.
