    A Lot Better Value Elsewhere

    rating21 Mar 2024

PKL Residence is a reasonably well-located budget hotel on Sai Kor Road, Patong, around one kilometre from Patong Beach, just over a kilometre to Banzaan night market and around half a kilometre to Malin night market and OTOP market and bar area, all easily walkable. There are a reasonable number of eateries within easy walking distance, both Thai and international foods. Across the road there is a 711, a pharmacy and a motorbike taxi stand and during the evening a few street food stalls. The hotel itself is a little bit tired looking and in need of some TLC. The entrance is rather nondescript, sitting behind a little tourist daytrip booking booth, and the foyer is the size of a very small room. Check-in went relatively smoothly but a 500 THB deposit is required for the room key. The room I stayed in on the third floor overlooked the main road which was quite noisy during the day. (One of the first things that hits you in this place are all the notices on the wall, don’t do this, don’t do that, break this, pay that, all very off-putting). There was a very narrow balcony which is almost impossible to sit too long during the day as it gets full morning sun. If staying here my advice would be to book one of the rear rooms facing the canal. The room was quite spacious and had a double bed, small side table with lamp, large cupboard with room safe, long work bench with small fridge underneath and a nice big mirror on the wall atop the bench, a small plastic stool to sit and that’s about it, quite sparse. There was a kettle on the worktop with coffee/creamer/sugar and two bottles of water provided daily. The bed itself was on the firmer side and the mattress would slide around a bit on the wooden base. There were two power points above the bed head which were handy. The TV in the room was wall mounted and a good size. Picture quality was good with a good selection of both local and international channels. There was a typical Thai wet bathroom, no shower curtain so when showering the water goes everywhere. The shower water pressure and temperature adjustment work well. The AC in the room worked very well, it looks relatively new and was quiet and efficient. The WIFI was frustrating, very unstable. Sometimes worked great and then at other times terrible. One of the worst problems in the room was the fact there are so many loose and cracked tiles on the floor, only a matter of time before someone cuts their foot. Staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful. Would I stay here again? It would depend on pricing really. Too me the high season value of this hotel would be around 700- 800 THB p/n, and around 500-600 low season. I paid around 900 THB p/n and for that price better value can be found elsewhere.

    Cheap comfortable friendly safe

Been a regular at this quaint little hotel. Staffs are friendly even down to their cleaning ladies. Huge rooms for the price. Everything within reach (7/11 & Family Mart across the road, restaurants, massage, pharmacy, money changer everything is near) For those complaining it being far from walking street and beach there's loads of tuk tuk, motorbike taxi or even rent a scooter from them.

    Average stay, clean rooms.

If you are booking this hotel through different sites, dont trust the photos, rooms look different. it is cleaned daily, but backyard there is like a canal and smells so bed. I could not open a window to refresh my room. Outside of this, stuff was nice, housekeeping very attentive. Just dont get confused, before you enter the hotel reception, there is a shop on the ground floor. You will need 15 min to Patong beach, location is ok, far from the city's noise.

    Awfull experience- MUST MUST avoid

If there were 0 stars, i would give that.We booked the hotel on booking.com for a day. When we arrived, we were greeted by cleaning staff since the reception lady had gone off for lunch and wasnt expected back for next couple of hours. They barely spoke english, and we had a hard time checkin in. Once that was sorted, we had to deposit 1000 baht as security , or give our passport.Ps: do not give away your passport. We later heard numerous stories of them misplacing the passport. They ‘found’ the passport after the gentleman threatened to call the police.Anyway, so we check-in and we had a superior room. This ‘superior’ room had a drain flowing right next to it. The balcony view was of the smelly drain and rear side of some old buildings. We kept the balcony door shut throughout our stay to keep away the stench. We then asked the reception for an extension for one more night and she quoted a price of 1200 baht. We negotiated and 1000 baht is she agreed on. We agreed and she booked our stay for another night. She asked for payment upfront and I told her that we will give her the cash when we come back at night since we were already out of it. They add 3% surcharge if one pays by card. We cancelled our booking in the other hotel since we had decided to continue our stay We came back at night and nobody was at the reception so we went and slept. In the morning, around 8, we were woken up by loud thumping noise and which seemed like an earthquake. We ran downstairs only to realize that the hotel doesn't have one straight staircase till ground floor. I wonder how such buildings in Thailand get safety clearance. We came back at the reception and enquired the cleaning lady what it was. She could only so much explain that it was a joke by somebody around the hotel area.We went back to our room to plan for the rest of the day. At 12:20, the reception lady asked us to check out because we didn't pay, all this while they had our security deposit with them. We fought and she was very rude. She threatened to confiscate my passport and not let us leave the country. I told her that I would call the police on her to which she replied that she knew all the policemen. I kept shut and checked out. While we were at the reception, she gave our room to another couple staying the same hotel for 1500 baht. They had also enquired about the extension in the same hotel, but we had already booked so she couldn’t give it to them then. Our cab driver informed that this is a common practice in this hotel, and many people have faced a similar issue. They also return the money if somebody is willing to pay more, especially if you have booked with them as opposed to a site.Everything in Phuket seemed good until this. I wouldn't, whatsoever, recommend this to anyone. There are several hotels in Patong, and this one is easily avoidable. It is too far from the beach and location isn't exactly ideal.

Okay. Not like their pictures on booking.com. Good to stay for one or 2 nights. Close to Patong beach ( 10 minute walk ). Down the road from Bangla ( 4 minute walk ). No breakfast. Cheap accommodation.
