The worst place to stay in Phuket

    rating20 Aug 2019

What can I say about The Regent Bangtao…well nothing positive, in fact quite the opposite. Let me try and summarize our long stay with them:Staff – complete lack of any English. Now I understand we are in a foreign country but I’m sorry, you work in hospitality and serve an international market, then you need English speaking staff (or at least one). This then made it impossible to try and ask for something or get a point across, whatever it was. Overall the front of house staff were friendly but then the back of house (one in particular and I think the manager) was absolutely terrible. She was rude, dismissive and at one point because we complained about the way the room was cleaned, simply threatened to cancel our cleaner even though were paying for it! At night, they had a team of staff, that literally all fell asleep at their stations. Front desk was turned into a bed and as for security…as you might of guessed, all asleep, so no security of course. Wi-Fi – terrible and 70% of the time, not fit for purpose. They never tried to fix it or invest in a new system (again, even though you are paying for it) Electricity and water bills – this was the worst factor in our stay as they were complexly ripping us off. The essentially get the bill from the local authorities and then mark it up as much as they want. Even though we reduced our usage the bills went up every month. Some months paying as much as 10,000 THB for a bill. Of course, if we didn’t pay, they threatened to cut us off.Pool area – a building site on top of a carpark – they started to build a poolside bar but then decided they couldn’t be bothered to fix it…so it’s half finished with dangerous wires precariously close to the water. The sun loungers around the pool are wooden so not fit for purpose. They did have sponge covering them but they became moldy and the hotel decided not to replace them. The gym – if you’ve ever been to an elderly peoples home, then that’s what you get. It’s never cleaned and most of the equipment is broken.Spa – this is nonexistent. It’s occupied by a Thai family that use it as their home and cook some pretty interesting smelling food which I might add goes into the gymCockroaches – at least 2 every day in the apartment. Problem is never dealt with Breakfast – it’s not breakfast, it’s a terrible effort at a Chinese buffet that is geared up for one purpose…you’ve guessed it, Chinese guests Chinese Guests – every night like clockwork, a tour bus with around 100 Chinese guests rolls in. they are loud and do not appreciate that other guests are staying at the complex. The hotel team are asleep at this point so do nothing about it. Therefore, forget about a good night’s sleepFittings and furnishings – I had an electric shock at least once a day and the plugs don’t fit in the sockets. The furniture is made of plastic and the cheapest money can buyAll in all THE WORST PLACE you can possibly imagine to stay in, not a word of the above is factually incorrect.

    Under all expectations

We stayed one month via Airbnb a total disaster. Kitchen and bathroom with leak and flood problems, cockroaches, etc. I hope hotel has another way but I can tell that common areas are not receiving a good maintenance (garbage bin full 2 days no one clean them, pool area also not attended and so on. So for few days it can be ok but I won’t come back even with a good rate.

    Clean and good location

    rating16 Feb 2018

We stayed here in Dec 17/Jan 18 and had a lovely stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel and room was always kept very clean. The pool was lovely and very quiet but there wasn't enough sun loungers in the sun. The pool bar and spa were not open which was a bit disappointing. We used the gym most days which was really well equipped for a hotel gym- had free weights and a variety of machines as well as a number of cardio machines. The breakfast was average but very cheap. The only issues we had were that when having a shower the water never drained so the bathroom floor would completely flood and we had a lot of issues with our safe not working which was not ideal. The bath on the balcony was lovely and all in all we would return and had a lovely stay.

    Great

    rating09 Aug 2017

I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend and could not fault it. If anything it was so quiet it was a little eerie. We payed around £30 a night for basically an apartment. We have a kitchen, living room, 2 balconies (one with an outdoor bathtub), a large bedroom and bathroom. The room was great - clean and spacious! The aircon was also very cold which was needed with the heat outside. The pool area was lovely, we were the only ones using it so was like our own private pool. The bar in the pool itself was not open. The hotel does cater for Chinese tourists. We did not eat breakfast in the hotel and just got things from a lovely supermarket along the road. We needed a transfer to a port to get the boat to Phi Phi and the receptionist arranged this with no hassle. The surrounding area of the hotel is lovely, slight American feel to it. Lovely restaurants and we felt very safe!On returning to Thailand I would definitely stay here again!
