A true boutique hotel with great service, perfect location, and well designed rooms

    rating24 Jan 2026

My wife and I enjoyed a long weekend in Tunis and stayed at Dar El Jeld Hotel & Spa. We loved the location (right in the Medina), the hotel, our room, and the service. The hotel is clearly local and historic, the architecture and design are excellent, and the staff is very professional and helpful. Definitely staying here next time we are back in the region.

    Gorgeous luxury hotel

    rating22 Jan 2026

Beautiful hotel in a historic area. We loved the combination of lovely Tunisian architecture and decor with a clean modern aesthetic. The rooms were huge and perfect -- suites give plenty of space, two bathrooms, closets, a desk, and a huge bed. The hotel grounds are also lovely, with lot of cool nooks and rooms to sit with tea and a book when it rains :) Definitely felt like a full luxury experience and a true five star. Breakfast was also great and an expansive spread of options, and the breakfast room guys were great. We appreciated the daily supply of oranges and dates. We also took advantage of spa treatments at the hammam -- which I would probably pass on next time. The hammam experience was 2 minutes of scrub and 58 minutes of steaming/relaxing, so no need to pay for that, and my 1 hour massage was only 40 minutes. Otherwise, a great stay and would stay again!

    Gorgeous luxury in perfect location

    rating18 Jan 2026

The hotel (repurposing an old mansion and annex) is jewel-box, antique- gorgeous, and the suites (we tried two different levels/sizes) are enormous, luxurious, and impeccably maintained and serviced. The location is perfect, being just within the medina on a wonderfully atmospheric alley, with the advantages of both feeling part of the medina while being easily accessible to transport (via the adjacent Place to Kasbah; note that while transportations may be inclined to drop you off in the square, a mere 30m walk to the hotel, in fact taxis can go directly up to the hotel door if you wish). The roof-top restaurant (where we had four dinners) is excellent in both cuisine and service (one dish - duck-liver done in four different ways - is now amongst our top-ten gastronomic experiences anywhere). We had the reverse opinion of the companion El-Jeld Restaurant across the street, which we found over-priced, crudely-catered, and rather garish (with waiters in pseudo-Ottoman attire; very much a businessman/touristic experience). Note that these two associated restaurants are the only ones in the medina that serve wine/alcohol. The hotel breakfast (served in the roof-top restaurant reviewed above) is adequate and proportionate to the size of this boutique-hotel (although more than one cereal would be nice; we eventually brought in our own rolled-oats). Our only criticism of the hotel might be of the Reception staffing which seems to pride itself on being elegantly cool and motionless to the point of cold and unwelcoming. Generally, the week-long stay was wonderful. While expensive by Tunisian standards, it is a bargain by any other.
