    Comfortable mountain lodge close to Tongariro visitor center and stars!

    Wonderful mountain lodge, comfortable, clean, and access to host's backyard where you can stargaze like crazy. 2km from Schnapps' bar/ restaurant with good basic menu and pleasant vibe for families. A short drive to Tongariro visitor center and variety of hikes. Highly recommended!

    Booked the Motel Unit 4 Pax for one night on 4/3/2026 through Chase Travel. Location was convenient and staff was helpful. Room was clean and value was good for the price. Noise was not an issue even being right by the road, but we were up and gone early for the Alpine hike. Amenities were adequate. Resturant up the road, Schnapps Bar was a good place to eat dinner. 2 adults & 2 teenagers

    Good hotel. The room was large about 25'x25' including the bathroom, with a queen bed, sofa and twin bed. We had a large balcony which we did not use due to rain. There was a dining area across the hall equipped with a fridge. The hotel is located close to the highway so you can hear cars passing by. Another drawback is their wifi is limited to 5G so ask for additional vouchers.

    Works Well for Tongariro

    Nice place to stay if hiking Tongariro. Host is very accommodating with a self serve breakfast if getting an early start for the hike. Good value and comfortable rooms even if a little way from National Park itself--need to drive in for meals. Hot tub was a great treat after the hike.

    We recently stayed here 3 nights in the largest room upstairs in the lodge. It had a queen bed and single bed plus a huge patio, private bath and access to a kitchen/breakfast room across the hall. Our stay was very comfortable and the location was fantastic for exploring the local National Park area. Our hosts were very nice and provided a map with local sights to visit. It is very close to a petrol station, small store and several restaurants. We had a very enjoyable stay and would stay again if in the area.
