  The hotel is almost derelict in places. Stairwells badly lit, dirty, and broken glass on the stairs in places, with badly maintained railings. Lifts kept breaking down and the breakfast room was on the 4th floor, overcrowded and the selection was unappealing with bruised and over ripe fruit, eggs that were overcooked and stale salami. No proper restaurant, no bar, no milk for the tea tray in the room. Their website shows lovely toiletries, but there was only soap dispensers. The only thing going for this hotel is location. It needs major refurbishment before it should be used as a hotel.   Brilliant and basic!

  Solo trip, safe hotel, decent breakfast (amazing coffee!). The 100E bus from the airport will drop you off about a 10-15min walk away (all flat). The hotel itself is a little dated, but i was only there to rest and get ready for the day! So close to the ruin bar Szimpla Kert, shops, restuarants and 1 tram stop away to Market Hall. The tram is about 1 min walk from the hotel, with only a couple of stops and you are at the Parliament or to get the bus or Metro. A really good location for Budapest.   superb experience

  the hotel is right in the city centre very close to the metro 3 and the river also. a great location. Clean rooms and very friendly staff. The breakfast is great with a huge variety of options. the breakfast room has a beautiful view of a neighbouring church and the river. The building itself is old and quirky - with a great atmosphere slightly old-fashioned - but the rooms themselves are completely modern. Highly recomended. (The photo was taken from the breakfast room as the snow started falling so not a full view of the river!)   New year Budapest...

  Stayed in the City hotel matyas for 5 days, hotel was clean and basic, was cleaned every day and fresh towels. Bed was to hard for me but wide for a single bed. Breakfast was very poor, I never been to a hotel with no toaster... no British teabags either.. There is alot of stairs and the lift is very small and old, the hotel is very old and needs updating. Its great as was in the central in Budapest so the best... staff were friendly and always there for help. I loved Budapest plenty to see and view.. I would go back to Budapest but not this hotel...   I booked with lastminute and was pleasantly surprised. I do not understand people moaning about the irony railings and old lift. It's authentic not some boring gutted building like everything else in the world. Please keep the soviet style lift my friend and I loved it. It's a part of history now.I found the hotel spotless and the room was huge. Fab location and really lovely staff. Aircon was a bonus, didn't expect that.We were there during the renovations and it was fine.Breakfast was average like anywhere else in the world, quit complaining there isn't almond milk, I wouldn't expect that.
