Very disappointing- avoid if possible

Don't book this hotel if you're in leiden! We had a poor experience in this hotel (at least compared for the price). We got a room with furniture from the 90s, the smell was bad especially in the bathroom it was terrible. When we went back to reception to inform them, the lady seemed annoyed (or somewhat irritated and unfriendly - at least that's what we felt). The waiting lounge was not clean and tables and sofas had leftover biscuits and coffee, which was very unpleasant.

Did the job

Very centrally located, couple of minutes walk to the train station, shops and bars. We were cycling through Leiden and it had ample good secure cycle storage. Room itself was ok, no ironing board so went out looking a bit unkempt. Main issue was that every time someone in the room next door moved you could feel it through the walls. Staff were all very pleasant and not a bad option if you prefer modern hotels to ones with a little more character.

Not enough communication with guests

Standard Room : POSITIVE : the location was good because we had a car, including the secure parking garage.NEGATIVE : The hotel email telling us the address of the car park wait area was good to receive, BUT to not mention the massive amount of road works getting to it was a major problem. The road works was due to Kermis which I’m sure every citizen knows about. The hotel should have told us to make sure our GPS was able to pick up road works, or at least told us to avoid inner city streets. Instead of 10 minutes till arrival when we hit the road works, it was an hour and lots more kilometres and frustration! Each detour brought us to another one and another one etc etc! The room was small but okay for 1 night. The shower pressure was pathetic, which I guess was okay for the cleaner because with the lack of shower curtain, water would have been all over the floor. Not good! Bed was comfy enough, but slightly hard. Good to have large windows to see outside (high rise building view). Hotel itself is in need of an update for the price they charge for both the tiny room and high car park cost.

Dear Ms. BeppieChick,Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you appreciated our location and the secure parking garage. We are sorry to learn that the roadworks and Kermis traffic caused such frustration upon your arrival. We completely understand how inconvenient this must have been. Your comments are very helpful and we will make sure to provide clearer information to future guests when major events or roadworks take place in the area.We also appreciate your remarks about the shower and room comfort. Our maintenance and housekeeping teams will review these points to see how we can improve.Despite these inconveniences, we hope you were still able to enjoy your stay and we would be happy to welcome you again under better circumstances. With kind regards,

Good Hotel for business trip
20 Oct 2024
Actually I don't have any complaints regarding this hotel. I think I received a rennovated room (t-rex room) which had a good room size and spacious bathroom. The room was also very clean. No noises, breakfast was good and also the staff was friendly. The only thing, the safe I think it was broken. I didn't use it, so it was fine. The hotel is also close to the trainstation and the 5 min walk to the city center of Leiden.

Not room 554
08 May 2024
Good things: 1. Room ready at 12:00 noon. Helpful for us to unpack and rest since we had been traveling since 7 am. 2. All personnel were smiling, helpful and friendly. 3. Breakfast was great! Fresh fruit and breads, yogurt, cooked eggs and bacon, cold cereal. Food was replenished and tables were cleared quickly. 4. Room was as advertised. Comfortable bed and large bath. 5. The area is perfect-safe and right near the train station and 10 minutes walk from restaurants and attractions. Improvement needed: 1. We told the receptionist immediately about 2 problems. Neither was addressed at all!! The thermostat/air conditioning doesn’t work. Luckily we were able to open a window. The second problem was a sewer smell in the room which I traced to the pipes near the sink. Again, we were able to ventilate with an open window. Neither problem was bad enough for us to move to a different room (this one was 554), but the fact that the one maintenance man just didn’t do anything was annoying.2. Housekeeping did not replace towels or Kleenex on last day.
