  Excellent hotel, brilliant staff though a little warm for me.

  I stayed at the Cevahir on two separate but consecutive weeks, in two different rooms. One thing you need to bear in mind at this hotel - it is very warm! The AC does NOT cool the rooms, just warms them up. It was so warm in the room that in both rooms I had to leave the balcony door (first week) and window (second week) open to keep the room cool enough to sleep in. There was hot air blowing in the restaurant too, so I had to find a spot not being heated to stay cool.The staff were very helpful, attentive and friendly. Spoke pretty good English and could not have been more helpful during my stays. Both rooms were absolutely spotless, and were always ready for my return in the evening. I did notice a few little 'issues' with the rooms, like a blind not opening properly, a power socket that did not hold a travel adaptor in place (though another nearby worked without issue), some of the light switches did not work nor did the TV in the first room. Other than that I could not have had a nicer stay - room service food was superb. I had a cheese toastie on two occasions and a continental breakfast for dinner with fresh fruit, cheeses, jams, spreads, tea and orange juice and it was wonderful!The biggest issues I experienced at the hotel was the outside effects. In my first room I noticed an awful smell, which when I opened the balcony doors and looked down got a really good view of a large rubbish dump! A massive pile of garbage was directly below my 4th floor balcony, and it was dreadful. The other issue I noticed when keeping the door (and window in the second room) open overnight was the noise - there is quite a lot of road noise, not to mention dogs barking at all hours of the night. I completely understand this is outside of the hotels control, but I suggest finding a way to keep cool other than opening a window if possible.Breakfast in the restaurant was simply superb. A massive choice of cereals, fresh fruit and salad, cheeses, bakery items, eggs of various types, fresh pancakes (SO GOOD!) and many many more. I had a different breakfast every morning for 7 days without repeat, though I had the boiled eggs on more than one occasion.Overall - excellent. This is why since we are currently in winter, the system is blowing cold air. if you can notify the front desk or guest relations department in cases such as light switches, television, air conditioning and odor,the relevant technical and house keeping departments will immediately take the necessary action. In addition, we would like you to know that if our guests have a problem with their rooms, our front desk departmet can change their room taking into account current availability. Besides this, we have shared your feedback with our management regarding air conditioner and the issue of how to cool the room in winters.   Great hotel, big with fab views of Prince's Islands.Must dos-Make sure you have acess to google maps (we used an e-sim) you can look for all public transport using it.-Buy an Istanbul card (we got ours from Sok supermarket and charged with 200 Tlira). You can use it on buses, trains, trams, ferries and toilets. You can charge in Sok or at ferry/train terminals easily. you can use 1 card for 2 people.-HotelThe hotel is on a main road overlooking the sea with fantastic sea views, a promenade, and loads of park areas. Our room, Deluxe double with sea view, was big and the views are stunning. There's a button by the side of the bed to open the curtains so you can see the sea without even getting out of bed.Breakfast is really good. Buffet style with lots of variety including fresh pancakes and waffles.It was so hot when we went but the outdoor pool was closed (30th sept) which was a shame. There is an indoor pool but we didn't use it.There are a few cats ouside that hang around the tables. guesta are asked not to feed them but lots do so although cute, they do become really annoying in the end, Maybe signs on the tables would help as management do tell you not to feed them,Hotel staff super helpful and our room was spotless. Carpet was a bit worn but it's not a big deal.-TransportBus number 16D will take you as far as Kadikoy and the bus stops are 2 minutes outside the hotel, so easy. Bostance seemed to be quite busy at night. Buses are 30-40 TliraThe Marmaray train (Maltepe staion) will take you right over to the European side for Hagia Sophia, Topkapi etc, again really easy.The Maltepe ferry station is 5 minutes from the hotel. We went to Buyukada, the biggest island (pretty but quite busy after 12) and the smaller island. which is much quieter.   Very friendly and well-organised staff at your service. Fresh modern rooms and nice swimmingpool area. Excellent Turkish Bath at good price offered. The location is not central if you want to experence the busy inner centre of Istanbul but public transportation available nearby.   Cold room. But nice view. We got upgraded as well which was a nice treat. Clean room and it got cleaned everyday with replenished toiletries etc. Small dents in wallpaper around hotel and outside pool closed during the day one day due to cleaning (why not clean it after 7.30p.m?). Nice outdoor pool. Dark indoor pool and hammam area not hot at all.But overall a very nice stay with friendly staff!
