Worst hotel experience I have ever had — unsafe elevator, dirty rooms, no basic hygiene, and unacceptable management

    rating23 May 2026

I stayed at Marble Hotel Istanbul from 20 May to 24 May, and this was by far one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had. This property is advertised as a 4-star hotel, but the reality was completely unacceptable in terms of hygiene, safety, service and management. We paid approximately EUR 1,200 for two rooms for four nights. During the stay, the same hotel was showing on Booking.com for a dramatically lower price, with comparable rooms for the same number of nights listed at around EUR 270–342 per room. I understand that hotel prices can fluctuate, but considering the extremely poor conditions we experienced, the amount charged was completely disproportionate. The problems started immediately. The hotel advertised parking, including on-site/valet parking options, but when we arrived with a Mercedes V-Class, which is a normal category B vehicle, they told us they had no proper parking solution. We had to search around the area ourselves, despite the fact that parking was one of the highlighted services on Booking.com.The key cards repeatedly stopped working. We had to go down to reception multiple times to have them reprogrammed. This happened more than once and became a constant inconvenience. The most serious incident was with the elevator. After one of the key-card issues, reception reprogrammed my card and I entered the elevator to go back to the 6th floor. The elevator malfunctioned, moved abnormally, failed to stop properly, and took me down to level -2. I was extremely frightened, pressed the alarm button, but nobody responded. When the doors finally opened, I had to run back to reception. The hotel did not provide a proper incident report, and the same elevator appeared to remain in use afterwards. This is a serious guest safety issue, not a minor inconvenience.Housekeeping and hygiene were also unacceptable. One day we returned to the hotel at around 5 PM and the room was still not cleaned and had a bad smell. On another occasion, we returned and neither of our rooms was properly cleaned. There was no toilet paper, no basic supplies, and the room felt dirty and neglected. The bed linen was damaged/torn, and the towels were dirty. This is not acceptable even for a basic hotel, let alone a property advertised as 4 stars. The room was also extremely poorly soundproofed. You could hear everything from outside as if the windows were open, and you could also hear noise from inside the hotel. It was very difficult to rest properly.Breakfast was another disappointment. When breakfast opened at 7 AM, the omelette was already cold and tasted/appeared as if it had been prepared much earlier. For a 4-star hotel, the breakfast quality was extremely poor. The worst part was how management handled the situation. Instead of taking responsibility, they tried to avoid resolving the matter properly. When we asked for a refund, we were told that because the reservation was made through Booking.com, they could not refund us directly. They then proposed cancelling the Booking.com reservation and refunding the full amount only if we first paid them EUR 900 directly. I refused this, because it is unacceptable and unsafe to ask a guest to make a separate direct payment outside Booking.com before any refund is officially processed. The manager was dismissive, unprofessional and unwilling to take proper responsibility for the repeated failures. At no point did I feel that the hotel treated the situation with the seriousness it deserved, especially considering the elevator incident, the hygiene problems and the repeated lack of basic service. This was not just a case of “we did not like the hotel.” This was a repeated failure of basic hotel standards: misleading parking information, repeated key-card failures, an unsafe elevator incident, unanswered elevator alarm, dirty rooms, lack of toilet paper and supplies, damaged linen, dirty towels, poor soundproofing, bad breakfast and unprofessional management.I strongly do not recommend this hotel. Based on my experience, it does not meet the standards expected from a 4-star property, and I would not stay here again under any circumstances.

    Don't even think about it

    rating15 May 2026

You can see my previous thought about hotel belowBut unfortunately after I liked the place I booked 3-4 times more but at second stay some people burst into my room, third stay there was a broken fridge in the middle of the room at third stay though I booked it 3 days when I arrived there they said that they don't have a room only a room is available which is not same standards like previous ones, still I accept it but the room wasnt cleaned it was full of garbage bags the sheets and pillow of previous guests. So classic in Türkiye the more you stay somewhere the more they don't care about you. For one day you can stay but no more!Because of my job I’m traveling a lot and staying different hotels from all over the world. I’m kinda hotel expert so my opinions about this hotel are1- welcoming & helpful staff (even though I asked so many things they helped me for each of them)2-room was great, clean and had a great view.Special thanks to Tuğçe and all the staff. Thanks guys it was one of the greater accommodation for me!

    Best local breakfast in Istanbul

    rating19 Sept 2025

We were there just a week ago. The service was great, new waters every day waiting for us and a room very clean. The breakfast is amazing, with a great variety of local food. Definitely would stay there again.

From Relaxation to Theft – A Shocking Experience

    rating21 May 2025

At first, the experience was great, especially with the good breakfast. However, things took a turn when we were robbed during a massage session and lost a gold bracelet. On the last day, after checking out, we handed them a bag of medicine to store with our luggage until our airport transfer later that night. But when we returned to collect it, they claimed they never received anything. So we were stolen from twice!

Marble By Name, Not By Quality

    rating12 Jan 2025

While the Marble Hotel has a great location, was a little disappointed with some elements. Unfortunately, upon arrival didn't receive the room type booked and despite showing confirmation of the booking, remained in a standard room which happened to be incredibly noisy too. The hotel is quite dated in most areas although the lobby area was beautiful, and cleanliness was generally lacking. The indoor spa and pool were also poorly maintained and not up to standard. On the plus side, the staff were friendly, helpful, and attentive.
