    The worst hostel ever

    rating11 Aug 2023

This is really the worst hostel I've ever stayed in, because the staff is irresponsible and keeps PUAing you. You are responsible for being scratched by a cat, and we have no responsibility at all. Yes, my biggest responsibility is that I came to your store, but I didn't touch the cat at all. The cat scratched me by itself, and the staff didn't take any measures to deal with it, and didn't even recommend a hospital for vaccination. Very irresponsible. Especially the manager of the hostel, lazy and without attitude. Very bad place. In addition, the mixed room and public bathroom are transparent doors, and there is no male and female bathroom. Do you want people to visit and take a bath? Only the female room has air conditioning, and it's too noisy with the window open. the worst hostel in the world. Don't stay here. Great hostel in best part of Istanbul for young people (Kadikoy)

    rating10 Jun 2023

Great hostel in best part of Istanbul for young people (Kadikoy). Easily walkable to all bars and restaurants, but also in a quiet location for when you need sleep. Staff is very nice and place is kept clean. Easy to meet other travelers as well.

    Fine but overrated

    rating27 Aug 2022

Moda Drei was fine for a few days. The dorm was nice and large with great AC, and the lockers are huge, really good (although their electronic locks beep loudly whenever locked or unlocked which isn’t great if the room is asleep). The beds have lovely big shelves with reading lights and a power point, and privacy curtains. The WiFi is decent, not consistent but generally fine. There are some very cute cats that live there, which I loved, although some may not be so keen on this.I have to say other than this, I felt generally underwhelmed/disappointed with this place, and don’t understand all the glowing reviews for it. I feel like the way it’s advertised (from their photos/online blurb they want to be seen as a chic concept hostel/workspace environment), vs. what it actually is, is quite different. Covid probably hit these guys hard which is sad, and when they opened a few years back this place probably was very modern and cool, but right now it’s pretty dirty and messy and has more of a student house vibe (after a house party…). The walls, stairs and doors everywhere are grotty, the common areas are small and dishevelled with big stains on most of the upholstery, and the small kitchen is usually in a gross state, really filthy, with a fridge too small for the amount of people staying and nowhere else to store dry food. No paper towels or anything in the toilets to dry your hands, and nowhere in the showers to put your stuff or hang your clothes properly. The toilets were the worst - two for each floor, always dirty and disgusting, some with broken toilet seats, some with locks so old and worn they jam (I had to help free someone stuck inside on one occasion). The place is run by volunteers (other travellers) who live there, and it shows - a proper staff and cleaners would probably keep the place in a much better state. The volunteers are generally lovely, one or two give off a very weird vibe though (the guy with the dreads in his beard). The location itself is OK, it’s technically in Kadikoy and there is a cool coffee shop or two and supermarket nearby, but most stuff of interest, as well as the ferry and bus terminals, are a 15/20 minute walk away. The street itself is a building site, the entire building next door is just a concrete shell with builders and drills working from 9am everyday which doesn’t make for a fun waking up experience. The vibe at the hostel is also quite dull, a mix of slightly aloof digital nomads and solo travellers, and there are also no social activities from what I could see. Overall while I wouldn’t return, I wouldn’t dissuade others from coming as it may be more to others’ tastes than mine, and wish these guys all the best. The hostel is fine for short stays, but there are probably others that are much better in Istanbul.

new hostel with no vibe and atmosphere

    rating29 Nov 2020

We stayed in the private room for a couples of nights. Before we arrived, we ask about the direction to get to the hostel, they gave very confusing answer. It turned out we have to walk 20mins uphill from the bus stop to the hostel. Afterwards we understood that they don’t know well the public transport. The room size is good enough for 2 people, bathroom is spacious too. However the bed was shaking, you can also hear the birds on the roof in the early morning. There is no hangers or hook in the rooms. The staff are mostly volunteers, they are nice but they don’t know the city and the area much. We asked for hairdryer, no, we asked for turning on the heater, no one can help. The most disappointed thing is they don’t even have a map or business card for tourists. They have laundry service, but we were charged 50 lira and asked to help to make our own laundry. We understand it’s a brand new hostel but this accommodation real need backpackers vibe and atmosphere. This place is not what we expect. We decided to move to another hostel only 20mins by walking, they have much better service, more reasonable price and more well located.

    Great stay in excellent location

    rating30 Apr 2020

This was my fifth (!) trip to Istanbul and I wanted to explore the more “authentic” parts of the city and stay off the beaten track. I highly recommend visitors to get out of their “comfort zone” and explore more than Taxim, Sultanahmet and the likes. Kadiköy and especially the Moda neighborhood are AMAZING, I will definitely return, countless boutiques, coffeeshops, bars, parks and restaurant filled with locals. You don’t really see a lot of locals in the touristic areas so I started researching...where do locals hang out, local hotspots etc and found Moda. The neighborhood did not disappoint (apparently Kadiköy was voted as one of the 50 coolest neighborhoods around the world), I wasn’t aware of the fact that the street art scene is that rich, you’ll find huge murals from artists all over the world all over Kadiköy, I stumbled upon them when I checked out the hostels website and IG account. The hostel itself is a dime, - the rooms, social areas and bathrooms are well equipped and very clean- the staff speaks fluent English and knows the area very well - fully equipped kitchen, Netflix, Spotify, plenty of books and boardgamesI stayed in a mixed dorm with a big terrace and private bathroom, one of my roommates was Dutch, the second one was from the US. We hit it off immediately and started exploring the neighborhood together. Check out the app “Marti” and explore the area on scooter. So much fun!!Now, this might just be the “corona lockdown blues” but this was probably my best experience in Istanbul so far. I fell in love with the city all over again. Thanks guys!
